      It is fantastic, and I'm sure intimidating. I wish our NZ crowds would do something similar and not 'boo' the opposition.....

    • @DAGATHire
      @DAGATHire 6 років тому +55

      That's all started with Munster years ago, respecting the kicker and filtered in to Rugby throughout Ireland thereafter. Every other country jeer chant boo whistle etc during the dead ball kicks. I see that in England they are attempting to mirror Ireland in the "Respect the Kicker" campaign but it doesn't seem to work. With that said, it doesn't seem to bother the kickers if the crowd are jeering. That dead silence tho has got to be a bit alien to some kickers. Particularly French, cos' their crowds are by far the most vocal during dead ball kicks.

    • @hedonaut

      @@DAGATHire It didn't start in Munster. It has always been the case that Irish crowds, no matter what province, usually respect the kicker.

      @@hedonaut to a certain extent. But not dead silence. Munster started that. And In Case you get the wrong idea about me, I'm from Leinster. I remember very well when that began in thomond park. It became a mark of Munster home games. Then it filtered out. But that's where it started. Fact

      @Shuggy Thomas yes, I think you are right. England have for long had the same problem in football. Although I hope the French go far in the WC, i doubt they'll go any farther than the 1/4 finals, which would be a good feat considering the group they're in. But there is always room for hope, just like the Irish can hope to win it all next year, which would greatly help European rugby. Btw thank you for the French translation, my friend ;) .

      Ireland and those Northern sides tend to have a few good seasons then fall off the edge of a cliff. Wales and Scotland in the start of the 6 nations really did not impress me.
      I know they will say they are slow starters, but that is just an excuse, it really is.
      If England can do what they did to Ireland in their first game, then how come Wales, Scotland and Ireland have not been able too?.
      That to me means England are on the up and the others are on the downward, which is what happens up their. They may of had a few good wins over NZ, but it is that consistency that they lack up in the North.

    Irish rugby 2018
    Those are the GOLDEN days for Irish Rugby
    I ask is this a poem, it is a love song, it is history of those MIGHTY WARRIORS written down in print and now chiseled into the rock face on a mountainside near the home place of my adopted son Bundee Aki, in Connemara, west of Ireland.
    Down from the glen came the mighty Irish team wearing green with their gum shields and their sworn vows. To fight the fight they believed to be right to overthrow the opposition the greatest ruby team the worlds have ever know, the might All Blacks from the very fine land of New Zealand
    In to the Aviva Stadium the Irish boys strode where they drew a line across the surface of the pitch and swore that no man will cross and score a try against us this night, they drove hard and solid to stop the All Backs team back breaking out.
    With the kicking skills and directions of the very Saintly Johnny Sexton the Irish team mastered and controlled large parts of the game.
    The Irish boys showed their great skills and headed across the line only to be wrongly denied a well-scored try.
    This would not going to affect then and a little later then let loose the wild Irish man, the very blessed young master Jacob Stockdale, the Wolf Hound of Ulster with great flair to out riot and score a brilliant try. Moments after this, from his grave we could hear the battle cry of Cú Chulainn driving his warriors on into battle, the boys in green had come to claim their emerald, without it they could not leave, they fought and battled hard and fair from start to finish, lead up at the from by the might Rory Best and under the directions of their brilliant manager Joe Schmidt and his backroom staff, with the foundation laid down by all players past and present.
    In our group, we are very proud to state that we had English, New Zealand, South African and people from other countries helping to make this victory possible. We had people from all over the world stand by our sides and cheered along to help us finally claim victory for the very first on home soil and hoisted the EMERALD high in to the sky, letting is shining its brilliant bright light on this world we live on

    We wish to spread this joy and sheer beauty of this victor with all who came along and we thank the All Blacks for the hard battle they fought and the people of New Zealand for the part they played.
    This was partly composed by that other Irish Warrior the Great Phil Lynott

    This is going to get buried, since this game was a while ago, but I remember when this game happened, I had met my long-distance girlfriend a few weeks prior and she LOVED sports... but could not care less for rugby; however we watched this game "together" and she was so amused at how rugby was such a funny mix of soccer and football. She didn't understand the significance of Ireland's win and we rarely discussed rugby again after this match, and the relationship has long gone to shit... but those moments we had together were so happy. This game will always hold a special place in my heart because of that.

    I was at this game.....I just came back to have a look at the highlights after watching the same teams play each other in the World Cup yesterday. It’s like ireland are a different team now than they were a year ago, it’s hard to believe. They could barely string a few passes together and seemed to have only one plan one trick for the entire game, same thing again and again that wasent working. New Zealand played great and we ready for ireland they are so good to watch they are the one team that could pick a try out of thin air and could score at any moment. I just can’t believe how far we have fallen in such a short space of time, who would have thought we would have no answer to Japan in the World Cup after being at this. Not taking from them either they were the fittest team there I cheered for them against South Africa

    Great performance, really entertaining game. All these comments on the WC and being number 1 are sooo boring. I can assure you none of the squad or management care for any of this hyper nonsense. This win is nothing more than a milestone reached as part of an overall project. We have the States, Christmas and then our 6 nations to defend. After that we can chat about the World Cup. It's such an honour for our country to finally compete with New Zealand who are the Gods of Rugby. This couldn't have come at a better time for Ireland as the threat of border posts loom once again.
    I'm so proud of Joe for what he has accomplished since Leinster, if he goes home after the WC we should make him a foreign King of Ireland, but one we will always respect and be proud of. 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

I've witnessed some Epic/Heroic wins over the years but this win for me was probably the best performance i've seen by any Rugby Nation in the last 15 years. I knew this team under Joe were going places, I Could see the progression i knew we'd reach new heights but i never thought i'd see the day were an Irish

    Soilder Field is nothing compared to this lol. We have now beaten the All Blacks twice in our last three meetings, We kept them Try-Less FFS. All we have to do now is Beat the USA next week beat England & Scotland in our first two 6Nations games in Feb & It's official. We'll be Ranked No.1 in The World Rankings ( ;

      Rohan Irish were so ungracious in defeat last time they lost to the All Blacks in Dublin blaming everyone and giving absolutely no credit to a team that outplayed them. The New Zealand media and ABs coaching staff have given the Irish a lesson on how to lose with humility in the last few days.

      @@SuperEdge67 I've seen you in this comment section belittle Ireland at every opportunity. Grow up, Ireland were great.

    Highlights could have included the aftermath for a minute or two. What a win. Better than the Chicago one a few years ago. Of course that was televised live here in the USA. Ireland play the US this weekend, I believe. I don't think the Eagles have much of a chance, but one never knows. This game overall didn't have a whole lot of scoring. The one try with the mis-directed move was classical in the way it was set up. That's what is needed in the sport now, gimmicks to break defensive lines. It's the problem with the game that the laws were changed enough, regarding tackles/breakdowns, that defenders aren't going to commit more than a few players to a ruck, or any at all, (which in that case there is no ruck because there is no contact between players) yet the team in possession has to commit at least three in case there is a counter-ruck. So, the defense has the advantage of spreading acrosss the pitch and marking. It makes for a boring rugby game, in my opinion. New Zealand could not break through that defensive line in the dying minutes of the match, though they did five years ago, but I think the second to last pass in that match was forward. Perhaps there is too much kicking, not enough tactical kicking, well-placed grubber kicks or short kicks just over the defenses heads. That's how backs thirty or forty years ago would have broken up defensive lines. Backs: the forwards would have not been out in the backline!

    Loved this game, the AB's just couldn't deal with the Irish physicality. Retallick being smashed by Best and knocking on in the 51st minute summed up why they lost. The look on his face in slo mo was priceless!
