Medical response times appear to be amazingly quick. I thought the UFC medics were fast into the action but these rugby docs/medics are exceedingly quick to respond. Impressive.
Not downplaying the dangerousness of UFC at all, but I think in those fights, the person isn't moving as "fast" and is expecting some kind of impact. Here one player is going one way at full force and the other player is countering that by going full force in the other direction so the impact is probably a lot bigger and more dangerous.
@@DJShade707 yeah for sure massive fast moving objects meet in the middle and if the point of contact isn't something substantial its a serious moment.
@@stevenross-watt8640 exactly dude. I guess my point was that (and I could have this completely wrong) the severity of impact is much higher in rugby so they have to get a medical team out there asap, but it's not as "serious" in the UFC, if you get me
@@DJShade707 we probably need some actual data of the g-forces and shocks involved. Both sports are crazy dangerous on your body. In rugby if someone purposefully elbows you in the face they will get a red card. In UFC A they get a fight of the night bonus. They measured Francis' the UFC heavyweight champs punching power and its tbe highest ever recorded. So both sports have huge impacts but in UFC it's not like wrestling or rugby where you run full speed at each other. All in all its probably not worthy of comparing the two, either for impact scale or medical response as both are at the top of the pile.
Because of how much physical toll rugby takes on the body, nothing is left to chance - concussion checks are probably the most important because missing one can be serious and could be the start of brain injury over the years, as well as Parkinsons, dementia, stroke, etc.
Seeing the ref explain the situation to the captain, with no rebuttal or whining at 3:49 just has me going in awe. I've never understood why soccer/football players are incapable of this. Also noting at 7:30 the ref says "...good for a discussion when you're ready, please." And I absolutely love this. Allows the offending team to collect themselves and insinuates it won't really be a debate/argument. Such class this.
3:16 - and he continues to take his man down, who is twice his size, in spite of being kicked in the face with cleats. THIS, mate, is the difference between football and Rugby
Played 2nd Row as a line out specialist 40+ years ago. I lost count of how many times I landed on my head as Refs let the opposition tunnel under me while I was in the air. Glad this crap is being reffed out of the game. I feel for anyone taken out whilst in the air.
I don't have a clue how rugby works but damn is it interesting to watch! I also love the role that the referees (is it called referees in rugby aswell?) has in the game. Clearly explains why his action is justified, or at least why he did as he did. What i especially love is that the players seem to totally respect the decisions. They do not cry about it, or make stupid gestures or start to laugh or something disrespectful. Amazing.
Grew up in Ireland playing soccer, then rugby. Love watching rugby and seeing how players respect the referee. Makes me sick watching soccer and all the diving, feigning injury, and then harassing the referee (verbally and sometimes physically). Rugby referees don't take any crap - soccer needs to introduce the sin-bin, might change some individual behaviors if teams were to suffer when players get sent to the sideline.
I used to watch alot of football with my uncle. He watches every world cup. I stopped when they fake injuries too much. Anything for a free kick, penalty kick, or stall time. I even seen some coaches fake injuries.
I've always loved how the referees look at the offenders who feign injury to try escape consequences. Refs be like "Don't worry - I'll wait" and everyone else is like "You KNOW you f*cked up, right?" Love this game
3:30 that was really unlucky, I don't think he intended for that to be as bad as it was. It looked like his original plan to tackle was about to get stepped and by the time he tried to figure out another way it was too late and made for a horrendous shot. Really unlucky.
I wonder if it ever comes to instances like the 5:20 scenario where refs should just call the game and give it to the other team. That is way too disgraceful and the guy needs literal assault charges
I appreciate how most of the players accept the red card with dignity and don't pitch a tantrum like most US sports an immediate tantrum would ensue; also appreciate calm and succinct explanations from the ref's.
@@wowmafkees How about a player shown a red card has fifteen seconds to leave the pitch, otherwise his captain follows him. That would be fun. Atletico Madrid would end up with no players on the pitch.
@@usr7941 I've never heard anyone say that someone pitching a tantrum is acting like a girl, it's always a childish reference. Also maybe you should try watching more sports involving women if you think they don't whine and pitch a fit too.
I know almost nothing about Rugby. From the outside looking in, I saw it as an extremely physical sport, more so than football, and never thought that things like this happened since they don't have padding or much protection.
Good decision from the ref to send them both off. But the commentator was talking out of his arse. Saying it wasn't a red just because he does it all the time.
Don't agree with red dude lined up the tackle as he's tackling white player jumps and gets hit in the legs tualungi was half way through the tackle and in the air when white decided to jump
@@NZ.REACTS Tualungi didn't go down to make the tackle until after the white player jumped. Which means unsportsmanlike or not from the white player, Tualungi made a dangerous tackle. The red card was fair.
I'm used to seeing big, brutal hits in American Football, but at least those guys have a small mountain's worth of padding and gear protecting them to some degree. And even then, lowering the shoulder or going head to head is absolutely not allowed. Seeing some of the guys in these clips take those kinds of hits without the benefit of the same level of protection as American Footballers scares the hell out of me.
And both codes of rugby are now facing massive issues due to brain injuries, early onset dementia etc. which will kill the game off. Rugby has experienced a steep decline in participation in the UK, 2 clubs went bankrupt last year and the game's governing body is facing a lawsuit from hundreds of former players. Parents don't want their children playing the sport, and I don't blame them. In my day, which was really not that long ago, the average player wasn't that big. Nowadays, thanks to gym culture and the attendant steroid abuse that goes with it - including at amateur level - players can hit a lot, lot harder. Attempts to make the game safer will completely fail unless these issues are tackled, but the rugby authorities think that concussion is the only problem, and will fail to see that players are giving up on the game because they just don't fancy being hit hard by some 18st meathead.
@@johnnyf6617 I've actually been to a couple Rugby games thanks to some family I've got in the UK! It was really fun to watch even if I didn't understand half the rules. It's a shame to see the sport declining, even if it's for very legitimate reasons.

He is an asshole...I will not recomand that he will ever do something like this in a game against Georgia or Romania. Those guys will put him in a wheelchair !!!
There's any number of Farrell's no arms "tackles" which have gone unpunished. He usually goes down as if he's been injured. One that sticks in the mind was in the 38 points draw in the Calcutta Cup. Not even a yellow card & the talk by the officials was pathetic. Only a penalty, possibly saved England from what would have been a humiliating defeat.
I still dont fully understand the game, im an American who grew up with American Football so its hard for me to learn all the little rule differences and plays but I can say without a doubt these guys are incredibly powerful and skilled. They cant hit the same way, but its got its own unique displays of power.
Stick with it and you'll learn. I've started watching NFL in recent years and I'm really enjoying it. I'm sick to death of football(soccer) and the constant time wasting/diving and nil nils.
As someone who is from the US and big into the NFL, I’ve stumbled across random Rugby videos and have watched many compilations but I have yet to fully understand the game. The offsides and other foreign rules, I just can’t grasp them. Nothing against the game as it seems super exciting but as an American I guess the rules are a big reason why it’s not super popular here.
Rugby is a tough game. All credit to the administrators who have evolved the rules over many years. An action that is a jailable offence on the street, should not be allowed on a sports field. Amazing that there is a dignity in rugby refereeing that we don't see in other sports. No rugby player deserves to be paralysed playing the game he or she loves. All credit to the rugby referee! You do a great job, with great composure.
100 % muscle and athletic ability. This is why football is the best sport in the world. There are so much aspect that could be expected from a football player. A player as slow as Zidane can be a star, player as small as Messi can be a star, or someone with zero technique like Inzaghi can be a star. But hats off for rugby players. All are warriors that get step into that pitch with high probability of living the rest of their life in wheelchair
Ange Capuzzo is one of the best players in the world and he's 177 cm and 82kg. On the other hand Mario Etoje is 195cm and 115kg. Don't be fooled into thinking only one type of body or skill set is good for rugby. It's more varied IMO. Both great sports
Tbh it's the players. Rugby players are extremely respected while footballers, on average, are not pleasant people. I had known of people who have gone on to become footballers. They aren't very nice or respectful in general. You can see it when people are given read cards. They literally swarm the referee like flies to dung. Do that in rugby and you'll get a card.
To be honest, I actually don't even see how that's foul play. The dude actually jumped into that tackle for no reason. Tuilagi was 100% committed to the tackle.
@@fionncreedon5470 lots of players do stupid things due to adrenaline and because rugby is a hard sport. It's full of intensity and split second decisions. I think lavanini suffers from poor decision making which results in cards. Yes, he can be a shithouse, but there are many players like that, Richie McCaw was one of them, same with alesanna and Manu tuilagi but they are viewed differently
In Women's Rugby Sevens, Australia vs Russia, the Russian captain tried to kick an Australian player in the head. The referee missed the incident and the match continued, however the match review resulted in the Russian getting a 12 game suspension which was reduced to 8 games because she had an absolutely clean record to that point. It doesn't end with a red card, match review has led to a number of suspensions.
These attacks should all get mandatory 10 week suspensions. People claim some of them are accidental. You would be surprised how these "accidental" hits miraculously vanish if the punishments were made stronger.
He does it all the time should mean, he's sent off all the time. That said I can somewhat understand how he is already in motion and inadvertantly collides with the other player, but again if that results in a dangerous tackle that should always lead to a send off.
@@achimsinn6189 I agree hes already in motion but you see him dip down lower when the blokes already in the air, thats where I think most draw issue with it.
The interesting thing about the Lote Tuqiri spear tackle on Richie McCaw is that no one ever noticed Stephen Larkham spear tackling Leon MacDonald after he passed the ball to McCaw in that passage of play. Plus, given you had the incident with Jimmy Cowan getting hit by Ma'a Nonu, do you have footage of an incident in the 2009 SR game between the Blues and Highlanders where Cowan was red carded for a late shoulder charge on Jimmy Gopperth, ironically by Stuart Dickinson? To add a bit of context, Cowan was the Highlanders captain that night and had been complaining all game to Dickinson about Blues' infringements. That obviously got on the referee's nerves so much he couldn't get the red card out quick enough when the shoulder charge happened.
Back in the days it was far worse than this most of these would've been ignored and they had rucking which means you could stomp on people too even the brawls were more vicious these days you get a card for any little thing
Kinda expected behaviour like that given his history playing in rugby league. League in the 90s was big on the 'biff' the crowds basically rewarded a fight and the players played up to that.
Real Bull fight stuff. Crowds even lose their compassion. "You elbow the guy in the head - straight red." Crowd cheer their departing hero as he waves "Thanks fans."
I had seen an interview with a guy who had played in the NFL and then went over and played professional Rugby. He said the hardest hits come from the NFL and the Speed is faster in the NFL. But endurance and overall toughness he'd get to Rugby players.

THIS, mate, is the difference between football and Rugby

so many impacts left you some cte symptom?
Back when shoulder charges where legal lol
Didn’t realize you could be thrown out in Rugby. I thought the only two ways out were finishing the game or dying.
There are three true outcomes, listed in order of preference:
1) Fighting with honour
2) Death
3) Dishonour
Any international game has a red card and yellow card punishment
Pretty sure you have to stay on the field if you die.
No the game that has no cards at all is Australian Rules football. It is shit.
Some of these "tackles" you can literally see the sonic rings fly out of them
I don't have a clue how rugby works but damn is it interesting to watch!
@@barryculhane5969 I completely agree. These overpaid brats in modern football needs to be put in their place, and not get everything for free.
I used to watch alot of football with my uncle. He watches every world cup. I stopped when they fake injuries too much. Anything for a free kick, penalty kick, or stall time. I even seen some coaches fake injuries.
It is in Rugby only that the referee is the most important. Rugby is a complex game .
Such brutal hits, but such civilized explanations about the red cards from the refs.

Agreed! The dude getting pummeled was nowhere near the ball. Man was absolutely unhinged.
I appreciate how most of the players accept the red card with dignity and don't pitch a tantrum like most US sports an immediate tantrum would ensue; also appreciate calm and succinct explanations from the ref's.
To be fair, many European football players act like little girls too when they get red
@@wowmafkees How about a player shown a red card has fifteen seconds to leave the pitch, otherwise his captain follows him. That would be fun. Atletico Madrid would end up with no players on the pitch.

I know almost nothing about Rugby. From the outside looking in, I saw it as an extremely physical sport, more so than football, and never thought that things like this happened since they don't have padding or much protection.
It's calmed down a bit in recent years due to lawsuits etc.
10:23 “He’s committed himself to the ball” lmao pure shite talk right there
Good decision from the ref to send them both off. But the commentator was talking out of his arse. Saying it wasn't a red just because he does it all the time.

@@NZ.REACTS Tualungi didn't go down to make the tackle until after the white player jumped. Which means unsportsmanlike or not from the white player, Tualungi made a dangerous tackle. The red card was fair.

There’s an old saying, “in rugby there are no winners, only survivors”.
Rugby players are literally built different. I am not a fan of rugby but I have the upmost respect for them.
These are real men. Not fucking nancies playing tag
Rugbys adopted safer laws recently to try and take headhits out of the game completely. A while back it was madness.
Did you know those paddings and helmets make it even more dangerous?

Didn’t see much of a difference on Farrells tackle and his normal tackles
He is an asshole...I will not recomand that he will ever do something like this in a game against Georgia or Romania. Those guys will put him in a wheelchair !!!
Driscoll's dined out on that for years
There's any number of Farrell's no arms "tackles" which have gone unpunished.
You'll learn 95% of it in no time. You need a rugby law degree to get to grasp with the other 5% 😂
I like how in this super brutal game referees when sending out talk so politely) specially in this situations when players lose their mind.
Rugby is not a super brutal game
Nice compilation! cheers!
Football is pretty good but there's wayyy too many faked injuries that kills it for me

Refs are so much better than football refs
Tbh it's the players. Rugby players are extremely respected while footballers, on average, are not pleasant people. I had known of people who have gone on to become footballers. They aren't very nice or respectful in general.
You can see it when people are given read cards. They literally swarm the referee like flies to dung. Do that in rugby and you'll get a card.
Why so? Because they see a blatant choke hold, or a player getting oubced on the floor 15 times?
Well yeah this is gentleman's sports not that sissy gay sport of yours.

Its a huge contact but at the same time the english player jump for no reason so i don't know if it was a red

Also have to take into context when the match happened. Stuff that 10 years ago wasn't seen as a very big deal are now are.
The Argentina vs Ireland one confuses me how much of a stupid plum do you have to be right in front of the ref doesn't even try and hide it 😂😂
Tomas lavanini is notoriously good at getting sent of
Lavanini is the most carded player in rugby dont think he really learns from it
@@fionncreedon5470 lots of players do stupid things due to adrenaline and because rugby is a hard sport. It's full of intensity and split second decisions.

"he does it all the time" doesnt make it right though does it, the fact that someone can defend a dangerous tackle is beyond me.
He does it all the time should mean, he's sent off all the time. That said I can somewhat understand how he is already in motion and inadvertantly collides with the other player, but again if that results in a dangerous tackle that should always lead to a send off.
