I'm sorry, but "My wife will not die, trapped like a rat. I did not conquer all I have conquered to let her suffer this!" is the most romantic line I have ever heard. I love these two
But Edward did send men. His instruction was to send the men to Aethelfled so that they could follow her lead, her being the leader of Mercia and the threat being on her border. It was Aethelhelm's men who lied to the men that Edward sent and the men in the burghs, and decieved them into not going to Sigtryggr's aid.
Stiorra is so pretty. A perfect mix of mother and father. Casting need a applause 👏🏽 I knew Brida was out for blood when Uhtred let her be captive. That was the last betrayal in her eyes
i recently watched an interview with Eysteinn Sigurðarson, the actor who portraits sigtryggr. honestly this guy could read the phonebook to me and i would listen with a big smile on my face. such a unique voice. and on top a damn good actor. in this interview he told that he was surprised that they found an actor who could be his real live brother to portrait his brother in the series.
I love how everyone on the entire show has forgotten that Uhtred has 3 children. There's been absolutely no mention of the Baby Boy that Gisella died after giving birth too. So technically Uhtred's line would continue if that child still lives. At this point we don't know if he does.
The only difference between Brida in this season and the previous ones is that now she’s in charge. She was always as zealous and cruel, but she wasn’t calling the shots, so no one took her seriously.
She's simply the worst character, and honestly I lost all interest in the show after watching e1 & e2. Her storyline simply doesn't make any since in that time period. It's a historical show not a fantasy one.
Pre-s3, I would disagree. I think she became far more extreme after 1. Uhtred’s departure after saying he’s a Dane for life, 2. losing Young Ragnar and 3. being enslaved. Before that, she didn’t appear any more bloodthirsty/vengeful/cruel than other Danes (except Sigtryggr). I think we think of her as more antagonistic or harsh because she resents Uhtred more/calls him out more than other Danes do for siding with the Saxons. Definitely in early s1 (yes this is very early) she was the voice of reason whereas Uhtred was hotheaded
@@almansour_82trust me i think the same, i HATE how they did her character, but the show for the most part is good besides brida lol, don’t be so knit picky
Indeed, This Episode was Directed by Uhtred himself. I hope they noticed that! He made me feel like I was at the edge of my seat the entire episode! What a talented Lord we have! 🙌🙌🙌
Nobody has betrayed Brida, she just didn't get her own way. The only "revenge" she deserves is against Aethelcod and she's already had it courtesy of Uhtraed. Sigtryggr is an invader too but he understands that peace should be the end goal of war.
She feels Uhtred betrayed her. By letting her be a slave when he knew what it was like. She asked him to send her to Ragnar and he couldn't do it. Uhtred says he didn't know she was pregnant. Would that have made a difference if he did know? If it did then it was a betrayal.
@@juliaforsyth8332 Brida was never a slave. She was taken as a prisoner of war. She was taken as a prisoner of war because she was attempting to conquer Saxon lands after mercilessly slaughtering civilian villagers. Everything the Welsh did to her was more than deserved and Uhtraed owed her nothing. She chose her side and she failed.
@@juliaforsyth8332 wrong. Uhtred never betrayed her AT ALL. if you actually paid attention to that scene when Brida was captured she gave Uhtred an impossible choice one of which gave him little time to actually consider nor did he even have the time to consider killing her because she was taken away and he froze up in that moment. Brida is 100% to blame for her own suffering.
i can absolutely understand Aethelflead´s reaction. Sure it sucks for Uthred, but she found out she will die soon like 5 min. ago. And the game of Thrones was actually a thing. You have to prepare your Family. Your Legacy. no one could have made such a big decision in this moment.
She is Alfred’s daughter, she was always going to put herself first. As great as Alfred was he was unapologetically selfish which is what made him the best fit for a ruler. He raised his children to be the same way.
@@fruitpunch053 She's not being selfish. She has a Kingdom to protect. As soon as the Wittan knows she is weak, all hell will break loose. She has to go out with her line strengthened and ready to take over. She cannot afford distractions at this critical point.

I hated the whole thing, but Aethelflaed really couldn't tell him, because the entire time he would have been thinking "she could be dying right this second" and rushing it, potentially sabotaging the rescue.
This has been a great second run through the show for me...been listening to the books, and rewatching the show to sync up with the books, and then catching ya'll's reaction for the first time despite being a subscriber already and seeing you guys watch all the twists and turns this amazing Netflix show brings is reminding me of my love for this story. I remember getting to the end of this season, and was absolutely hyped when the final pieces started landing in place. Finally a show, a netflix show at that, that 100% stuck the landing.
I felt so sorry for Brida's daughter. She was just a child and educated within her mother's lust for blood and revenge and given more power and responsibility than her very young could justify. She probably never had a normal childhood, was moulded into being a "seer" by her mother and then ultimately sacrificed because of her fanaticism. If that isn't life-long child abuse, I don't know what is! I'm 100% with Nikki on that one. I actually, literally hated Brida at this stage in TLK...

Viking / Danish cults were focussed on one god irl. What I mean is that of course they believed in all the gods, but they usually devoted themselves to one in particular, depending on which god their leader followed. It's quite annoying all throughout the series we keep hearing "the gods this" and "the gods that" the gods, the gods, the gods, but we never hear them named. Why do they never mention Thor, Odin, Freya, Tyr etc? It's weird
I don't agree with the premise of not telling Uhtred because they think he would be fighting with a broken heart. His heart is already broken by the preserved betrayal and the situation with young Uhtred. Constantly getting shit on by people he has helped and trusted to have his back over and over again just totally sucks! Great reaction and discussion as always guys 🤗🥰

Hey, a dozen is better than none. It's not like Aethelflead didn't give Uhtred men on purpose, she hated not giving him all the men. They still love each other though. Canker was the word for cancer back in those days so she dies of breast cancer in this show & in the books, but in real life, she died of dysentery on June 12, 918.
The problem is that Uhtred expect rulers to drop everything for one man when they have an entire kingdom to watch over. Especially with Aethelflaed, it's not a matter of not caring about Uhtred. It's a matter of one person's plight against the entire population of a kingdom. Do they let the entirety of their realm be stripped of defenders because one guy has a problem he wants their help with? How many get to die because there was nobody to protect them so that Uhtred can get his daughter back? Do peasants not count because they're not Lord Uhtred?
