i have had multiple people, artist and tattooed people, tell me to use a lotion called "aquaphor" for my already healed tattoos. i have been using it for about a month and a half and have been loving how my tattoos are looking. i recommend it for dry skin and a little goes a very long way.
i was always nervous about exfoliating my tattoos because i didnt know if it would be good or bad for them. thank you for clearing that up!

ayan0h yes! I find aquaphor to be amazing for my tattoos!

My bf's best friend uses Aquaphor and he swears by it. It is the only thing he will use on his tattoos and it doesn't cause him to have an allergic reaction (he has lots of allergies and really sensitive skin). I personally prefer Hustle Butter myself, but that is just me. XD Don't be afraid to try different stuff out and experiment.
If you are nervous about exfoliating them too much try out a loofah for a while. They are dirt cheap and you can get a feel for exfoliating. Most everyone I know that takes care of their tattoos use them since they are cheap and easy to use.

Okay, for starters, I watch your videos religiously and always smash that like button before I even start the video! 💕As someone who is tattooed, pierced, has crazy hair and is just overall "modified", Im finding it increasingly difficult to deal with people (in the south especially) who GRAB AND TOUCH me and constantly comment on my appearance. I know you've mentioned this phenomenon a few times, but I was wondering where you draw the line and if you ever have to be stern with strangers or even downright rude when they do cross the line. I always try to be polite and understanding of the fact that I do look interesting, but it's hard not to be weirded out and defensive when someone grabs me or calls me out public and makes me feel like a commodity... especially if I'm not feeling too social that day. Anyway, everything you do is an inspiration and I'm thankful you're such a consistent creator! MUCH love! 💕🤘🏻

omg I watched your video where you use peppermint wash on a new tattoo and I'm so glad you're using something gentler...peppermint is a skin irritant and the cooling feeling is literally irritation omg so bad for a new tattoo!!! Exfoliation makes sense because it takes skin off...making less skin that's on top of the ink so it looks clearer. I'm starting to get more tattoos and I've got to get in the habit of moisturizing and sunscreen regularly to protect them!

This is definitely something I've been thinking about lately. I have a tattoo on my wrist that's almost 3 years old and it gets pretty sensitive, especially when my clothes rubs on it. I also got my first large piece this summer and it has healed really nicely but I banged it up against a chair the other day and it hurt way more than I expected! I knew going in that tattoos can take a long time to "settle" but I was still surprised. I find it very important to moisturise and wear sunscreen over my tattoos too to keep them looking bright! Thanks for the advice about exfoliating, I've never thought of it as tattoo care before :)

I think two things are super important to remember: 1) tattoo ink actually stays in its liquid form under the skin. 2) Proper tattoo application is EVERYTHING!
It doesn't matter if you have the best diet and skin care regiment in the world--if you go to a tattoo artist who doesn't properly deposit ink into your dermal layer, it will heal and look less-than-desired every single time.
((Go to a good artist and do your research!!))

Another tip for raised tattoos/tattoo scars is aloe vera. I used aloe vera gel on one of my tattoos that was raised/scarred and it really helped even it out. This is for fully healed tattoos though.

I got my upper sleeve last year my first session was at the beginning of the year and I let it heal for a few months..while it was healing it looked really dull. When I went back for another session my tattoo artist packed the color in some places and after that the ink seemed to finally stick.
I do make sure I'm moisturized and exfoliated my skin. I used the Ocean Salt scrub by lush it was recommended to me by the employees 😊
    Fully this helps some people..

Hey Qcknd, would you ever be willing to do a Tattoo Talk Tuesday on the peeling process of tattoos? I got script done on both of my wrists and as it peeled, many spots were left without ink as it was all removed with the old skin, which I know isn't really normal. I was wondering if you've ever dealt with this problem and if you have any solutions; my tattoo artist charges $40-$80 for every touch up, even if the reasoning for the touch up wasn't the person's fault, and I don't know if I want to pay to have this happen again.

    • @BrokenBatWings

Lawryn Lucid I just got my first tattoo a week ago (actually I think directly a week ago, this time and day) and I believe in you! Just know that it will hurt, and it will be an annoying pain, but the tattoo will be worth it! If you need to take breaks, just ask. What are you getting?? ☺️

    • @amri198

Lawryn Lucid just got my first two tattoos for my 18th a couple of weeks ago and i was so anxious that, while sitting on the couch at the shop, i spilled my water all over the cough and myself lmao. but once they got started it was totally fine. you'll do great. good luck!

    • @juliaehlert8127
      @juliaehlert8127 8 років тому +1

Lawryn Lucid It's okay to be nervous. Just remember a few things. The pain is not constant, you can also take a breather or shift your position. Bring some treats with you to lift your mood (I had Krispy Kreme before mine last week) and also talk to your artist about your concerns. Don't go on forever but a good artist will reassure you :)
In my experience, it wasn't all pain. Some of it felt like a good scratch lol. And your body releases hormones to help you deal with the pain too. You get used to it.
Sorry for the long ramble but I remember being scared for my first too (large thigh piece). Some parts were a bit tough but I just counted from 10 in my head to help remind myself the pain isn't forever. Just try to relax as much as you can and enjoy the experience.
Luck and I hope it turns out great for you !

A few tips I've picked up:
      1. Don't be a "yes man" (or woman). For my second tattoo the first place the tattoo artist put the stencil was a little weird, but I didn't want to make a scene by pointing it out. Luckily my best friend was there and she asked me if that was how I really wanted it, which gave me the courage to say no. He just wiped it off and placed it in a much better position, and I am so happy that I said something. If you are ever uncomfortable with a design or a placement, speak up. Generally the artist will be accommodating. Yes, it is the tattoo artist's art, but you are the one who will be seeing it every day.
      2. Breath. Yes, it will hurt. But it is not terrible. I can almost guarantee you have felt much worse, and you have obviously gotten through it. The pain goes down drastically as soon as the tattoo needle comes off your skin. You can make it. Just remember that it may be uncomfortable to get, but it will be with you forever.
      3. If you have a close friend who already has (a) tattoo(s), bring her/him. I was lucky enough to go with a friend who was also getting a tattoo, so she went first and I got to see exactly how the tattoo artist worked, and it helped calm my nerves. And even if the friend isn't getting a tattoo, having that support there who can help you work through all the newness is great. If you don't have someone who can go with you, watch tattoo videos. If the artist you are going to has some, great. If not just watch a bunch of different artists so you can see the different ways it might go.
      4. (sorry in advance) Tattoos are forever, so don't be stupid about them. Don't get a tattoo just because you want A tattoo (at least not for your first one. I'm not saying all tattoos have to have a super in depth meaning, but when yo make the transition from un-tattooed to tattooed, make sure it is for something you have thought out and will love forever). Don't get some passing trend you'll be embarrised to have down the road. Don't get something that will keep you from getting the job you want (yes, tattoo discrimination sucks, but it happens). That being said, everyone's definition of stupid is different. Even if in 20 years your tattoo is "out of style" if you still love it that's all that matters. I am 100% not anti-tattoo (I have tattoos, so that would be a bit of an awkward stance), I just want people to avoid having the classic embarrassing first tattoo. The fact that you are here, doing your research (reading this ridiculously long comment) probably means you aren't being impulsive. I just needed to say it.
Best of luck! I hope your tattoo turns out fabulous!

I always look forward to these videos! Thanks Qcknd! As a tattoo collector, I am always looking for new tips to keep my tattoos bright. From my personal experience using kNutek "whipped oxygen cream" during and right after healing works wonders on keeping my tattoos bright and well-healed. Seriously, this stuff was a game changer.
And to those with raised healed tattoos-- time and massage helps. Areas can be raised from scar tissue, and in these cases a daily massage with or without lotion can help to break down the toughness of the scar over time.

I have this stuff by now solutions and it's cocoa butter and jojoba oil and it's the best best best substitute for things like aquaphor or just for maintenance. I have a few tattoos and the one that I didn't use anything except coconut oil in the beginning, then a little jojoba after that (with coconut over it for the night if I thought it needed it) healed the best. It's about 2 years old and people never believe me when I tell them that. Compared to my other tattoos, it's like a whole new world. I healed those with conventional soap (I forgot to mention I used hardly any soap on this one, just Castile the first night, and after that used literally the tiniest bit of ultra moisturizing unscented body wash and just kinda let it soak off instead of rubbing rubbing rubbing and washing washing washing) and lotions and my body isn't into it lol. It's so interesting how everybody heals best differently. Bodies are weeeeeeird man

Do you think that living somewhere (relatively) cool has helped to preserve the brightness of your tattoos? Since you don't have to expose them to the sun as much? I live in Texas and most of the time wearing pants is not an option. I always use an SPF body lotion on my tattoos, but I still wonder if the excessive sun exposure could be jeopardizing their health.
Also is there a particular reason that you use an exfoliator brush instead of a salt / sugar scrub? Are they too abrasive? I use LUSH's Rub Rub Rub on my tattoos and they seem to be doing okay.

I heard that your tattoo can also become raised and itchy as a reaction to an allergy/skin irritation. this happens to me after sitting on grass or eating oranges because I'm slightly allergic to them :) it will usually go away, if not make sure you're not allergic to anything in the ink used for your tattoo x

I use my Clarisonic and sweet almond oil to keep mine looking fresh. I also carry around a small mineral sunscreen stick just in case my tattoos are unexpectedly going to be exposed to the sun. So, similar to what you do. It fucking rocks!

It would be really cool if you did a TTT about getting your first tattoo. Not like think before you ink or do research, but maybe how not to get scammed since you're a tattoo noobie? Love you're videos!

Lines in tattoos can be raised if the tattoo artist went in too deep for that part, creating a bit of scar tissue. Good to still have recommendations on things that can help this as you can't change some things!

I have a bigger and colorful piece on my inner bicep and the lines closest to my body are raised, but only the very edge .. not sure why. Maybe because of how thin my skin is there. I also had a pretty big blowout that looks like a huge bruise next to the tattoo on the same side

Vegan cheese steak?? Do you make that at home? I need a recipe so bad. That's like the only food I "miss" from eating meat.

Hi Qcknd! I just discovered you & find your videos very helpful & entertaining.
My first tattoo (about 14 years ago ) raises & itches only when I am exposed to the sun. I think the artist went a little deep, since I had an apprentice do it because I had a drawing a friend do. It's an all black tattoo.
Do you have any recommendation (or videos) for how to help with that besides sunscreen. I wear it when I think about it but sometimes my shirt creeps up & exposes it. I am thinking of getting some "additions" to it since it looks less like what I wanted it to in hindsight, so can the person I have "fix" it do anything to help it?

I'd love a link to a past episode if it already exists, how to get inspiration for tattoo filler, I have a great forearm piece but I do feel like I want to complete a lower sleeve but unsure how to go about this, or where to get inspiration.

My tattoos (some a few years old) get very itchy and raised whenever there's a dramatic change in the weather. I think it has to do with atmospheric pressure. It always goes away within a few days.

I'm *22* and a professional artist and I'd really like to get a small tattoo for my first tattoo, but I'm super nervous that I will critique it to death until I make myself hate it.
    Any advice?
Or anyone have any tattoo artists close to West Virginia that they suggest?

Question for you, in your 'how to heal tattoos' videos you mention using a watered down peppermint soap. Would you say that has changed or do you still suggest using that method to heal fresh tattoos and then switching to a moisturizer rich body wash?

Since you shaved in the video I'm guessing you don't have personal experience with this, but do you know there are any issues or downsides (other than cost) to getting permanent hair removal and then getting tattooed in that area? My understanding is that it would not be possible to get laser hair removal done on already tattooed skin, but what about the other way around?

TheWolfblade87 I'm sure you found out by now but sometimes it just takes longer than a month or two. My outlines are always raised for about 2 months, it then goes away by itself.

In your last "How I Heal My Tattoos" video you used the Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap, do you still use that when healing a fresh tattoo or do you now only use the lush soap?

that video was about healing tattoos, so yes, I use a different routine for fresh tattoos, and this one is for healed tattoos. Hope that clears things up.

Could you do a video about different ways tattoos heal? I just got another tattoo and the guy was very heavy handed and rushed. One side is healing fine but the other is scabbing over heavily. I'm doing my best to keep it clean and moisturized (without over doing it) but I'm worried how its going to finish healing. Didn't have an issue like this with my other 2 tattoos.
