Just a note guys, South Africa didn't play in the first two world cup events (1987, NZ won, and 1991, Australia won).. At the time, we were banned because of apartheid. The first RWC we were allowed to participate was in 1995, when we beat the AB's at Ellispark, Johannesburg.
Since SA entered the tournament, there have been 8 World Cup Tournaments. England won 1/8 -- 12,5% Australian won 1/8 -- 12,5% New Zealand won 2/8 -- 25% South Africa... 4/8 -- 50%
lets not forget that one of the kitchen staff at the hotel the all blacks were staying at in south africa had poisoned their food, the only all blacks who didnt get food poisoned were the 3 players who didnt eat at the hotel that night
Thing is between South Africa and New Zealand the love between the two is complicated. New Zealand is the only country SA is okay loosing to and Vice versa. As a South African the only other country to route for if SA not playing is NZ. Its mad love
Even for a South African living in Canada I cannot stress enough how important it is for us expats to feel connected to South Africa and the Boks play a huge part in that connection.
Thank you guys for supporting the Springboks. We won the world championship by 12 points to 11. We are officially the greatest rugby team for the past 8 years and the country with the the most world cups. We have 4 world cup in 8 championships making us the most successful team in the championship. We played 4 finals and are the only team never to lose a final.
Jim Hamilton is an Englishman who played for Scotland and is a funny and very entertaining rugby pundit these days who is featured on “The Rugby Pod.” He has done a lot of these great Q&A chats with former stars during the World Cup, and I recommend watching more of them.
Great example of the respect between the Springboks and All Blacks is the deep and very authentic friendship between Siya Kolisi and Ardie Savea. There is a beautiful clip of them interacting after the World Player of the Year ceremony.
I enjoy your reactions, it's refreshing to see my own country through someone else's eyes. Makes me appreciate this hot mess, which is our home. With everything going on, there's just as much beauty and humility.
Just to give you a sense of what rugby means to us, this us the most important day in the last 4 years of my life. As it is for many, many South Africans.
Read up on Siya Kolisi's background. He grew up in absolute poverty, surrounded by gangsterism and drugs, but he stayed the course and it's part of what he represents now.
Yes, we had 66M more reasons to fight for it. The reason to dig deep, put all differences aside; to find the resolve to stand together, retake, rebuild and restore our country to its former glory. To leave a decent legacy for our children....
Gee the Boks wanna kill us...in unity of cos...don't know how I lift through these last 3 games..but but NEVER SAY DIE SOUTH AFRICAN SPIRIT CARRIED US... THANK YOU JESUS..
John Smit, 2007 RWC Captain. We ARE the BEST in Rugby. And once South Africa, as a whole realizes, that once we UNITE nothing can stop US!!! One day we will realize
Fun fact: The All Blacks were the first to win the inaugural world cup (1987). Springboks then got to 2 titles before them. ABs were then the first team to 3 and now Springboks are the 4. The ding-dong battle continues....
I enjoyed the reaction. South Africa are the defending champions. We won the world cup in 2019. The world cup is played once every 4 years . The next world cup will be in 2027.
Tourism note: That must be the Paris walkway Jim and John are on known as L'Allée des Cygnes (the Path of Swans) on a little artificial island in the Seine near the Eiffel Tower. Maybe someone from Paris can set me straight: It was a stroll I never got around to in my three summers working in the city back between 2001 and 2004.
John Smit was the starting hooker and captain in the 2007 World Cup final, which I watched from an English pub I tracked down in Orlando, Florida, while I had the family down at our old time share near Disney World. Smit played all but five minutes because he came off briefly in the second half to het patched up in the “blood bin.” It was an exciting game, and I felt like the only Springbok fan in that joint.
This is more than Rugby to South Africa...he was the winning captain of springboks ...think 2007 world cup...rugby is religion in SA...our first world cup win was the year after democracy 1995...historic as the cup was handed to the boks by our then first black president Nelson Mandela...so the team will once again do it for South Africa and unite our nation once again...look up John Smith...ex springbok captain. Also know this rivalry goes back 100 years...but there is great respect between allblacks and bokke and the respective countries and we are both in the southern Hemisphere...
John Smit was the CAPTAIN of the South African team that won the IRC Rugby World Cup in 2007. He is talking about the way RASSIE ERASMUS changed rugby in SA since 2018. Now the team with MOST WORLD CUP WINS! Keep in mind that South Africa was not allowed to compete in a Rugby World Cup before 1994. In 1995, they won it. The Springboks play HARD, but the plan remains to be the BEST. In a messed up Country, the SPRINGBOKS calm down the fever, bring everyone HOPE. This is not just a sports team. It is a machine of hope.
2023 world cup relly was the best because of how competitive it was, you had teams coming up like France and Ireland, playing the best rugby they have almost ever played, Japan started being competitive a few years ago
Bumped in to John drunk one day after they had just lost a big game in Ireland. I thought I’d walked into a tree. He was so nice and concerned about me I was expecting to get punched but he was the nicest guy ever!
If you want to know just how much it means to South Africans you just have to watch Cheslin Kolbe after getting sent of the last 8 minutes of the final.
For the gentleman on the left. You really need to work on your introduction if you are serious about producing quality content. The incoherent episode you have at the beginning each time before you start talking should rather be substituted with some type of "graphic play" or a proper introductory message.

I was about to comment this.
It’s crazy we were banned but Australia kept playing when mistreating the Aboriginals.
I keep saying that
Since SA entered the tournament, there have been 8 World Cup Tournaments.
England won 1/8 -- 12,5%
Australian won 1/8 -- 12,5%
New Zealand won 2/8 -- 25%

I love that you guys are watching clips like these for more context about the game and why we love it and the Springboks. Keep it up guys 😊
Listening to John Smit talk about the game as a whole, I'm beaming with a smile😊😊😊😊
You boyz are true SA fan’s respect from SA
Even for a South African living in Canada I cannot stress enough how important it is for us expats to feel connected to South Africa and the Boks play a huge part in that connection.

Jim is by comparison He's 6ft 9in. And retired 3-4year
John is retired 12 years maybe he was an absolute tank in his hayday

John Smit is a World Cup winning Captain, who also lifted the trophy in France as well.
Read up on Siya Kolisi's background. He grew up in absolute poverty, surrounded by gangsterism and drugs, but he stayed the course and it's part of what he represents now.
Siya literally had to beg for food as a kid.
Soooooouth africa!!!! Listen NZ were amazing but we needed it more deep down in our nation and GOD provided.
Yes, we had 66M more reasons to fight for it. The reason to dig deep, put all differences aside; to find the resolve to stand together, retake, rebuild and restore our country to its former glory. To leave a decent legacy for our children....
Respect to you guys.
Your guys have one of the great rugby channel for beginner rugby supporters right now. Keep spreading the rugby message
The last two games was very stressful.. 😂😂😅 We love our country and our rugby.. ❤
Now Proteas will show that we the best, I wish and hope that our unity will continue like this

Please clarify mate! I assume you were the drunk one, not John Smit? Nice story.
In South Africa Rugby is like a religion not a Sport.
Wow, wow, wow, I'm proudly South African
You guys should watch chasing the sun.The documentary about the springboks
South Africa has won the World Cup in each decade it’s played 🏆
1995, 2007, 2019 (Siya was captain then as well), 2023. World Cups are every 4 years, not yearly.
If you want to know just how much it means to South Africans you just have to watch Cheslin Kolbe after getting sent of the last 8 minutes of the final.

Bokke🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
So that is why the USA was not in the world cup because Portugal beat them to it.sorry Mookie.
Yes in the qualifying matches they drew the match with Portugal but i think Portugal had won more matches enabling them to qualify.
John Smit is about 6'1" and 270lbs... he looks kinda small here.
I think he’s lost a bit of weight from his playing days. He looks really fit these days!
SA got 4 now. NZ has 3
