Now THIS is a cool step by step. This man even brought out a thermal cam. I'll be buying my thermal paste from you.
@@cyberjay0 thank you good sir 😊
To prevent your GoPro from overheating I recommend the perfect amount of thermal paste.
Hahahahha best comment so far.

@@x-highrolla-x No.
Most likely something is damaged on the board.
Wow , thank you so much. Followed this step by step and replaced the thermal paste. My ps3 sounded like an absolute JET beforehand. I didn't even need to de lid. I just did the surface of the plates. I've been playing it for 3 hours now, and the fan is still quiet.
THANK YOU
@@sonichurosechu4ever you are welcome. Thanks for your feedback
@fasttechvideo thanks for the swift reply. The model I have is the CECHE01 80gb model. Is this the one that isn't prone to as many problems as the CECHA01 60GB system? I understand the 80gb model runs ps2 games off an emulator instead of the CPU.
Is the 80gb the better version overall ?
Subbing jusy for that fast reply !
@@sonichurosechu4ever both these models have the same nm RSX and share almost all other components and therefore prone to the same issues. If yours made it so far its likely a good piece. Eventually something will fail, its not a matter of if but when, just like you and me. Enjoy the ps3 and don’t think about failure too much.
I also have the CECHE01. No problems so far. Bought it in 2007 I guess. I will be cleaning it soon thanks to this video.
@jonnydonacar6435 do you find the air it blows it always warm but not hot ? These things definitely generate heat

I did this a couple years ago with the thermal paste and temps look good. I forgot to change the thermal pads. Is it worth the hassle/risk opening it up?
What would make more of a difference than thermal pad replacement is a IHS removal and replacing the paste on the processors. We did a video on this recently. While you’re in there you should also replace the pads as they usually have a life of about 5-10 years depending on the use.

I didn't go all the way with my disassembly but this really helped. It's also the first time I've taken a console apart like this! Only other thing I've really tinkered with was my GameCube controller, and that was to fix some issue that I don't even remember anymore. I think the D-Pad was broken?

is thermal paste more beneficial than thermal pads in regards to reducing heat and reliability?
You want to use paste instead of pads? I would not recommend that but you can replace thermal pads with thermal putty.

16:30 This is not how you apply thermal paste. You will be leaving air gaps that will prevent full contact for heat reduction. You’re suppose to add a small amount in the middle and squish it against the heat sink.
@@furonwarrior that method on a surface like this will not apply to the entire area of the IHS but does work for a smaller surface
Is my console done for if I accidentally broke the pin for the disc drive he said to be careful with?
@@Mnesia935 no it can be fixed
@@fasttechvideo thanks got it fixed. Definitely gonna be more careful with that pin next time lol
There has been a lot of new developements regarding the BC PS3 on psx-place that explains it all better than I can, but to delid the rsx isn't a good idea from what I've read.
There is a risk of damaging the chips or other components while removing the IHS. What other dangers are there to doing this procedure?
I did almost the exact steps like you. Had Totally dried out thermal paste on my CECHH04 and changed it with Arctic MX-4. It ylods now and i dont know why lol haha. Maybe too much thermal? Too little? How can i know even tho i tried to spread the thermal all over the IHS’s
No, too much thermal paste cannot cause YLOD
I think it's the brush method. I also had a working ps3 before I used this guide
Tried to replace thermal paste. Did that but now power doesn't turn on. Maybe the connections is not in properly, would that be the case?
Check the ribbon cable at the front for the power and eject sensor. Also make sure the power supply cable is installed.
Thanks for the informative video
@@MrDude-n8w youre welcome. Thanks for the comment
I wanna know how thick the layer should be I recently did the thermal paste and im now wondering if i did enough. It does seem quieter and less hot tho. I made sure you couldn’t see the top of the cpu
Enough to cover the IHS surface
Great video! Unfortunately, mine is still flashing red after all of the cleaning with new thermal paste. Can't get the disc out either. Anything else I can do?
We are going to release a video fixing the red light issue. Already recorded. Waiting for the editor.
Replace the NEC tokin capacitor with tantalum capacitor
@@michael9613 The NEC Tokin capacitors are usually never the issue. What happens is while replacing the capacitors the GPU and CPU gets heated up which is what fixes the problem, mostly temporarily.
could be a damaged RSX/GPU, the original 90nm RSX doesn't have infill on the chip causing the connection to break over time, recently it was discovered that the 65nm RSX from later fats and the 40nm RSX from slims will work as a reliable replacement for systems with the 90nm RSX because these chips have infill. very few repair shops will do this as it is a very difficult job. lookup the Frankenstein mod if you are interested.
@@fasttechvideo Actually, most of the cases it is the NEC Tokin. Replaced multiple consoles that had red light and fixed the issue. Although I always delid the processors so heat issues are always solved. The NEC tokins go bad very easily, and when I replace them I usually find burned ones during the process of removal.
Thanks for a great video. What do you think about scalping the chips? Is it really necessary?
You're welcome. Please like the video and subscribe for more content like this. What do you mean by scalping the chips?
@@fasttechvideo Probably means deliding.
Since these systems are all now over 10 years old this is something that definitely has to be done eventually however it depends on the hours the system was used and the environment it was kept it. Regardless this is something that you will eventually have to do.
Heres a de-lid (scalping) video guide we did recently: m.ua-cam.com/video/GzMmi7F65wQ/v-deo.html
I got a ps3 cecha12 and at times i get green lights and dots on my screen (known as the matrix screen problem) and it causes the screen to freeze. Would deliding the console solve this issue?
You touched the gpu points to hard, you need to reball now unfortunately
You need a new GPU (RSX) chip
One thing I am picking up, is do not fuck with the rsx or EE. Clean out the system. Just do not fuck with them. Too many cases of people popping off the plates and it breaks their console. Just go in and clean, do not disturb the original bins with the paste … my two cents.
@@TalonNismo sometimes you have to remove the IHS if the system is overheating even after a thermal paste replacement but you are correct it should be left alone if not required.
Did you do a vid where are you remove the IHS and replace the thermal paste underneath?
To be released soon.
The video is released now
Thanks a lot for this l’ve got a CHECHC03 (UK Launch model) on the way hopefully tomorrow and l’ll do this tomorrow to make it last as long as possible plus replacing the old thermal pads. (before anyone says, l’m aware it’ll inevitably fail on me but l’ll get someone else to do a Frankenstein mod on it since l’m horrible. This is so it lasts long enough that l can save up for that.)
You’re welcome 😊
is delidding necessary? can i get away with just cleaning and reapplying new thermal paste every 2-3 years? dont want to risk with delidding
NO! DO NOT DO THA! I JUST DELIDDED IT AND I WISH I COULD EAT THAT THERMAL PASTE! I scratched the cpu.. and now it's not starting up....
@@MarianMMN yall are scaring me now 😅😭I guess I will top it off with thermal paste and hope its enough as its my first time applying and will only delid when im forced to. THANK U SIR

Put a 1tb Sata SSD into it!
I did it on my console and it did wonders.
It improved the load and download spreads a lot!!!!
Improved my PS3 so much highly recommended!!
Most of the improvements are psychological though, since the infrastructure wasn't built with SSDs in mind and will therefore load almost as slowly as before, especially if the game depends on disc loading a lot. What could be improved is the XMB files loading faster and not show the spinning file symbol as long as before.
Idk what that other guy here is smoking but loading times and overall game performance is significantly improved with an SSD upgrade. Stuff like texture pop in and frame drops is also significantly decreased. Overall an incredible upgrade
Which drive did you get? Thinking of doing this for my ps3 too.

Not sure about the measurements at the moment but I will be doing a video on this in the future.
I recently tried turning on my PS3 (I believe it's the 80GB model, CECHE01), and it turns on with a green light and functional disc drive, but doesn't produce a video signal. I think it gets a little blip of some random visual pixels/static every few seconds. I am suspecting I need to replace the thermal paste. It hasn't been used in a few years but I do remember back in 2018 or so it did sound like a jet engine. Hopefully it's not dead completely. This is the first time I've had an issue. Is that also what you'd suggest?
Your gpu (rsx) is most likely on its way out.
@@fasttechvideo Damn. That sounds hard to fix.
@@redKheld it is
Sounds like your RSX is fried my friend. I had a fat model do the same. The fan went into jet mode for about a week, started displaying green lines on the screen and then started doing exactly what you described. Only way to repair it is with a QUALITY heatgun and a pre-balled RSX from ebay. don't even bother with the ones you have to ball yourself, its nearly impossible unless you own a repair lab and every tool imaginable. This is not for the faint of heart though. I am in the IT field and work with PC hardware on a daily basis and I failed RSX replacement twice before finally getting it on the third time. Also, check your HDMI port and make sure you don't have any bent connectors. Check the HDMI cable you used with it or try another or see if you can get your hands on a pair of the Sony cables to check the component output. Lastly, you can search up how to put it into restore mode by holding the power button down and see if it will allow you to factory reset it. if you attempt a restore, make sure you have a WIRED controller that is a LEGIT sony brand controller. Most of the aftermarkets wont work for PS2 gameplay or in restore mode. I will attempt more in the future as long as it is not a BC model. I don't wanna be the guy responsible for goofing up another backwards compatible console. I have a bricked motherboard from a launch model and sometimes late at night when the kids are asleep, I will pull it out and look it over a bit while I cry inside like a big manchild.
Just hold the power button till the second beep it should do it

All PS3S can AT LEAST play ps1 games. By the time the PS3 came out, the PS1 was at least a decade old.
Yes that is correct. Thanks for your comment Ali.
I did mine with thermal grizzly kyronaut worked better that exteme stuff is not that great. I tried it on a few things its great if you have temps around 80c and your overclocking sure but for average temps Kyronaut is better
@@MrWolfen i disagree but thanks for your feedback
@@fasttechvideo Well I tried it on my oced CPU extreme stuff. replacing arctic silver. After 1 week of ups and down idle was 33c and full loads was reaching 90c then cleaned it replaced with Kyronaut same water cooler everthing idle is now 23c and full load never reached 70c so I dunno.
I thinking amazon sold me a bad batch or something switched it with playduh. Because the temps do not lie
@ its possible
@ thanks for sharing those numbers
Just bought a go pro 13 will you forgive me please.
Never
@ Oh well that’s ok.
@ Got my motherboard I ordered. Thank you for calling me and letting me know me know I put my old address on the order.
@@outfield1988 thank you for your order 😊
@@fasttechvideo will order some more from your store. Keep them consoles out of the landfills. They are items to be treasured and loved.
Wow this looks tedious…
Let’s do it
I sent you an email I want to send my PS3 to you so it’s good to run for the next couple of years.. currently getting the blinking red light after minutes of use
Okay thanks for your inquiry some one will get back to you shortly
Arctic Silver 5 doesn't expire. It has silver in it that keeps it conductive even after many years of use. Your wasting your time and money replacing it.
The system did get much quieter after
Your employee must have applied too much, or applied it wrong. @@fasttechvideo
You do know that the PS/3 is the only Play station that cleans itself, Right?
You are referring to holding the eject button down to blow out air?
About a month ago was the last time my hard drive on my ps/3 worked.
I don't know if this is from dust, power outages, everything else works fine.
PS/3 did an upgrade on my console.
So was it a bad update,
I also noticed everything was wiped on my console, My Progress games, internet info, gone.
I reset everything online, everything works fine, and recovered my online games.
CD Rom reader, player or media will not work.
I have never opened my gaming consoles up.
ITTAKES THE DISC IT SPINS IT, BUT NO GAME PLAY sorry for caps.
On screen you see no disc, and no eject through the cordless controllers.
If you physically press eject the disc ejects.
My hard drive is 64gig/74gig. Originally 80 Gig.
My wife bought that console for me used from GameSpot with God of War Gold Edition, GTA-lV, and grand tourismo, for under 100 clams. It came with 2 controllers/ cords and a power plug.
No books, no registration forms online or off.
I keep me electronics in Prestige condition.
I even have a PS/2- still works.
And Nintendo 64 with all retro games- - in working order.
I don't know if mine plays ps2 or ps1, never tried it.
@@fasttechvideo Yes Sir.
I have the CECHL01 is this part of the same group of ps/3's that you meticilously describe in detail? And Thanx for posting your hyperlinks, which i have used some already. checked out pricing on sending my machine to your establishment , I think I would rather fix on my own, So Thanx again for the Proffessional Video and all the contents you shared, You know your Business.
You can tell bro don't fucking play games when he busts out a bucket of thermal grizzly. Fix a few ps3's here and there. I bet you do.
Hahahah thats right :)
My cover does not slide off
Probably because its stuck due to liquid or dirt.
@@fasttechvideo Thanks my man, managed to get it off, there was a bunch of dirt right in there but once I saw how you slid it out and then pulled it I managed to get it! Cheers and thanks for the useful content
@@adamneverlack thank you for the comment sir. Please like the video and subscribe for more ps3 and ps5 videos.
Screws fall out all the time. The world is an imperfect place.

I think after 15 years of not touching my ps3, my thermal pads, and paste are gone. The system runs at 67C while idling, but i have yet to receive any warnings about excessive heating or needing to turn it off.
Time for a thermal paste replacement and maybe even a delid
Why two XS ????
I didn't understand your question
My little bro has that Xbox 360 halo edition but it has red ring of death
We are going to be doing a video on this soon
If you put some thermal pad on some of the chips the heat will drop a lot too.
Yes that is correct. Thanks for your comment and please subscribe :)
which chips ?
@@darthsay1065cpu
@@darthsay1065put one on the back side of cpu were caps are will run better :)
Just saying: All PlayStation 3's can run PS1 Discs, including slim and super slim
Correct
Not work
Nice bot comments here lol
Can you explain?
this video was better once i muted it. you talk too much about irrelevant things, also the product plugs are annoying...dont plug a screw driver you cant even use without it being plugged in. smh.
Ill run my channel how I want to but regardless thanks for your comment.
The worst thermal paste change tutorial I have ever seen, expensive tools and supplies so that the IHS were not removed and the thermal pads remained the same, a shame and a waste, poor console.
The thermal pads almost never have to be replaced. Only if they break apart or are brittle. I also have done IHS removal in a later video. Thanks for your comment.
Wow you talk alot
You can always watch a different video 😊
I speak a lot because I dont want to leave out any details, this is why I believe I have an audience but regardless thanks for your comment.
I did watch a different video. You were talking about yourself and trying to sell us stuff most of the video. If youre such a professional why cant you handle criticism? Lmao
You didnt even delid the cpu chip this a half assed job
@@aarondevola5433 covered de-lidding in a later video. Thanks for your comment
@@aarondevola5433oh l’d LOVE to see you try and delid a system without destroying it. There’s no point deliding it if it’s in working order. It’s a high risk to do.
overrated with ego
@@Customer22374rt thanks for your feedback but can you be more specific?
I broke the bd drive cable latch 🥲🥲🥲 It wouldn’t go in at all tried it both ways
Can be fixed by putting the clip back in after you insert the cable
@@fasttechvideo Thank you! I will try again tomorrow ... already spent a few hours trying to get it back in oh chipped a few microns off it also I might need a new cable also dunno why it's so hard to insert. The blue tape that was on the cable also fell off now it just bends weird . Guess it was very old. I'll try to bring it to a repair shop or buy a new one at this point .. kinda sad since it was the BC version also ..
Thanks!
