    The Mazda6 is slightly smaller than it's main competitors but WAY more fun to drive. Plus, the Signature trim is refined and plush. Could this be the sedan that leads you away from a boring crossover?! Check out the review!
    US Trim levels: bit.ly/2PYDBTI
    *CORRECTION: Honda Accord 2.0 Turbo comes in six speed manual OR 10 speed automatic.

    Depending on what trim you get, the mazda 6 is either competing with a Lexus/Audi/Mercedez or a Toyota camary/Honda accord. I was going to buy a Lexus but then I test drove this vehicle with the Grand Touring package and it had everything the Lexus has, at a much better price point. I have no idea why these don't sell more.

      Well sedans have a rough time selling these days for most brands. Toyota gets most of the that segment with the Camry. Probably the CX3 and CX5 are their main sellers. Most people would get the CX5 over this for the hatch and more cargo space. Plus more ground clearance and AWD. Its where the market is at. Too bad this no longer gets the stick. That used to be a great option for the 6. I expect there was not enough demand. But he says it may come back. At least they still make it. Cars are a dying breed. I'm surprised they even make this for NA. Hardly ever see them.

    • @JS-hw8ve
      @JS-hw8ve 4 роки тому +1

      @@HiPlains1 LOL. Cars are not "dying", they are being killed. I live in a small mountain community, we get cold, snowy winters, and half the population drive V8 4x4s, because they think they "need" them. We don't. Yeah, winter can get rough, but it's not like snow plows have ceased to exist. Also cars do come in AWD, and even simply FWD has been shown to be more than adequate for winter driving. Not to mention the added saftey of having your cargo stowed in the trunk so it doesn't become a projectile in the even of an accident or roll over. No, the jump to Crossovers and SUVs was not because of customer demand. It's a push by manufacturers. They make more money selling you an SUV/Crossover than they do with a sedan or compact. Why do you think companies like Nissan push the Kicks more than they do the Sentra?

    What is with everyone and the AWD obsession?. Seriously unless you live in the snow or in a muddy terrain 90% of drivers who use theirs cars on asphalt for their entire lives will not need AWD. It adds weight to the car and a huge level of complexity that impacts reliability and skyrockets repair costs should anything go wrong later. And all that for what? having better traction in the wet? seriously? every new car for the last decade or so is equipped with traction control and ESP anyway.

    Mazda puts Toyota and Honda to shame. This is such a nice ride

  • @K03sport
    @K03sport 4 роки тому +4

    Yes & no is the answer to your question. Most is trim dependant, but honda's accord is the only 1 to offer a manual with both engines in their "sporty" sport trim (and it was on my next list along with GTI, Alltrack, BRZ, Si). Camry has a TRD "sporty" trim and a nice v6. Ironically, the company that brought us "zoom-zoom" doesn't offer a sporty trim (just regular and luxury) nor a manual in their big car. I'd love to see a '6 with more edge/bite/aggression to it.
    I really wanted a (manual) 6wagon, but none are offered in US/CAN; shame. Instead, we get another cuv in the cx-30 to pick from 👎.
    I like that Mazda is moving their product/target up to near luxury and keeping it "affordable", but I really wish they would continue with their sporty, driver-focused, motorsports inspired, zoom zoom side as well and not let the miata/MX-5 be the ONLY Mazda to carry the "really fun to drive" flag. Why go prototype racing if you aren't going to sell a (Mazda)speed or fast(er) sporty car?
    Secondly, I really despise the white/parchment interior no matter how good it looks; not with as much use as a car sees. Where are the nice deep browns, blues, reds? Give us contrast, but don't use white.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  4 роки тому

      That white interior was asking for trouble with the kids! I agree if Mazda we’re going to make a sportier trim on anything other than MX5, the 6 would be the way to go. Maybe they’re waiting for a return of the rotary?!

      @HiPlains1 4 роки тому

      Without the boost this car would be slow. There was allot of demand for Mazda to get more HP for many years. This is the only engine worth considering on a CX5 or Mazda 6. It will still get decent MPG's if you drive it normally. But its nice having the boost when you need it. It all depends on how you drive it. Non turbo will indeed get you about 4 mpg more. If it was me, I definitely get the turbo and put premium in it. At that point, you got as much power as the BMW Bi turbo motor and more torque. That's impressive. Also the BMW requires premium fuel as well. Yeah it cost more but too much fun. In short, this car is too big/heavy for just the normally aspirated motor. The turbo will probably have better resale value as well.

Sales for the CX-5 (their bread and butter car) are also down from last year. I went car shopping with my brother, who was looking for a compact crossover. He was put off by the decidedly small interior of the CX-5. He got a Forrester. I test drove a new Mazda 3 and came away less than impressed. Yes, the interior is more upscale than the Corolla or the Civic, but the rear seat is unacceptably cramped. The handling is decidedly ordinary. The gas milage is also lagging behind the competition. Toyotas really are the most boring. Their cars offer a soft, comfortable ride. But it feels like you are floating over the road, with little feedback. Hondas generally feel more tightly sprung, have better acceleration, and when you drive it them they feel almost sporty. I've owned 3 or 4 Toyotas and Hondas, and this overall build philosophy applies to their minivans, midsize sedans, and compacts. The Hondas always feel more like driver's cars. That said, Mazdas are actually built with that "fun to drive" factor in mind. Zoom zoom is definitely their philosophy. In the case of the Mazda6, The Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models (In the U.S.) offer a level of luxury that is very high for a non-premium brand. If you drove a Mazda6 Signature blind-folded, you would crash, haha. But before that crash you would think you might be in a Lexus, an Infinity, or an Audi. (I say this with the exception of that very dated infotainment screen mounted on the dash. That thing definitely does not look premium.)
