The Gold American Eagle is a highly traded and trusted coin introduced by the US Mint in 1986. Designed by Augustus St. Gauden, it features a full-body image of Lady Liberty wearing a toga, symbolizing the Greco-Roman origins of the Western world. She holds a torch of wisdom in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, signifying peace following wisdom. These coins are in BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED condition with random dates, leading to variations in the year and reverse design. The original reverse, used until May 2021, shows a male bald eagle returning to his nest with an olive branch while a female tends to two fledglings. The design from June 2021, by Jennie Norris, features a majestic side portrait of a bald eagle. While the Gold American Eagle coins are 22 karat and .9167 pure gold, they also contain silver and copper for luster and hardness, not to dilute purity. These coins are minted at the US Mint in West Point, N.Y.
