For a continuation of doing this with the work facing you always, I have been doing a join-as-you-go technique. I do a sc instead of the last chain in a corner to arrive in the middle of the corner and then do half the work of the next round initial corner to begin the round and end it with the second half of the corner and a sc to take the place of the last chain of the round. So in the first row of the granny square, you usually have chain of so many spaces and slip stitches in the first chain 3 of the first cluster of stitches. Instead of doing this, I just do one less chain between the last and first cluster and then the single crochet in the first chain three spot. Then chain the number for the next row because you are already in the right place for the second part of this corner. Do the rest of the row instructions from the second half of the first corner, in the pattern here, the second single crochet and onwards around to the last chain 3 and sc into the same space that you started in, chain the amount you are doing in the corners except for the last stitch do as a single crochet into the first single crochet of the row. Then it would be the chain for the next row as you go along. In this case it would be the taller ones. Good luck. I hope this is clear. The comment is being made on a small screen.
No one does tutorial videos better than you. This is a great look for a granny square. Thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos for us!
Hi thank you for this great tutorial, I will never forget that because of your tutorial when I had no idea how to make a square,,, was so ready to give up untill I saw your one, and I got it!! I have made so much items ever since. Thanks again for your best teachings from Margaret from South Africa and keep up the great tutorials ❤❤❤

I absolutely love the look of this stitch and how "mindless" it is. A perfect one if you want to work with one color and go on autopilot. 🤩
How many skeins of this yarn to make lap blanket or baby blanket? I have never used this kind of yarn, I always buy the regular skeins. Love this new way of making the granny square instead of the old ones!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for - a rectangular tutorial to use to make placemats! Like you, I'm really very fond of variegated yarn and use it a lot. Your rectangular sample is beautiful! I'll just be using two colours of blue but I think they're going to be lovely done in this new continuous Granny stitch! THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting this video together for us! I really appreciate kind folks passing on all the wonderful stitches & tips they come across! This is a definite keeper! Thank you again! 👍😃
Thank you so much for doing what you do. I just learned to crochet a few weeks ago, and I’m autistic so I have… struggles with learning in the traditional way. Videos like yours have given me such a tremendous gift. I love crocheting so much, it’s something that calms me, keeps my hands busy, and I get to create something at the end. By posting videos like this, people like you have truly made a difference for people like me. Thank you so much. 😊

Thanks so much for this lovely tutorial.🌹 I enjoy working on projects like this, so my next one will be the rectangle. I will be going for a large centerpiece for our dining table 😍
I'm so glad I found you here! ❤️ I've crocheted 50 yrs and always love new and easy patterns. Your teaching is so calming. And your work is beautiful! 😊
Happy Sunday to you Roz and thanks for today's tutorial. You are speaking my language today because I love working with variegated yarn for the same reasons as you no joining or ends to weave In. I also love the elongated version as well . As always great lesson with a wonderful ending of my baby BISCUIT staking his claim. Very nice. I’ve been crocheting for 60 years and I never thought of doing that chain row. I know what you mean about the misshapenness of a granny square when you do not turn the work. I’m going to try this after I finish my current project. Thank You so much for this video. It’s a game changer!

OMG! I'm in love with this stitch/pattern! I'm actually using it for my temperature blanket, a baby blanket ATM. It may be the only granny square/stitch I ever use again. Thank you for this great idea and tutorial.
When I was in 2nd grade my grandmother came to visit from out of town. She taught me how to crochet. Over time I taught myself how to make doilies and grannies squares and eventually afghans. This is entirely a different level. Beautiful work. Thank you for sharing.
I just came across this tutorial this weekend and immediately knew I had found perfect pattern for 2 yarn cakes I had. I have made a similar pattern before but this pattern is EXCELLENT! Extremely happy creator here❣️❣️❣️
I love this version Roz. I've never made a blanket using it but it's really beautiful. LOVE the rectangle!!! Adding both to my very long to do list. Hope I live long enough to complete them all because it keeps growing and I'm just getting lots older. 😊❤
I’m with you Linda! I signed up for an amazing crochet class and have yet to start it due to other things on the list. I think it’s common 😆 a fun problem to have , though, right ? ❤️
Wow. Awesome pattern. Your tutorial is the best. You are so talented. Thsnks for sharing. I started a square blanket and I will turn it into a rectangle once I have the siza I want.
Thank you for showing how to do the rectangle pattern. For afghans, I prefer rectangle shape and I love the modern granny. When I learned to crochet many years ago, I did a continuous granny square in the traditional stitch alternating between two colors with every other round.
I don’t usually like the granny square but your rectangle pattern looks very interesting. I’m going to try that for my next baby blanket. Thank you for the video.
I love granny squares; they are my favorite. This pattern is beautiful; thank you for sharing❤. Your voice is so pleasing to listen to, sweet and soft❤. I have to say I think this yarn makes a lot of difference to this granny. Have a wonderful week🌺
@ how many skeins do you think for a good size throw!! I think the color and texture of the yarn make the difference. This really caught my eye for sure.
@@PlayHookywithMe that would be wonderful. No rush please on your own time when convenient. Yes I would like to maybe try this yarn. It looks like maybe a 2 or 3 wt ??
Ahh yeah! I was going to ask you how you did a modern granny without twisting, and here it is. That’s a beautiful yarn ❤. These also make beautiful shrugs
I'm working on this pattern with one change to give it a bit more texture. Skipping over the chain 3, I'm using a US treble into the sc from previous row, then going behind the treble to do my 3 double crochet. I got the idea from Rich Textures Crochet with a scarf she made. Thanks for the tutorial for this stitch from the middle! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
Wow, beautiful project, adding it to my list of dozens of projects I'm already doing :) I have some bright variegated yarn that would look great with the rectangle version. Thanks so much for your excellent tutorials!!
Hi! This looks beautiful. I want to try this as a new lapghan for the seniors. They request the least amount of holes in blankets to keep warm. Thank you for this tutorial. I’ll probably add one of your beautiful borders that I use for your JAYG blankets. Be well and be safe.
Does it work to do the single crochet, chain round from the right side? What is the benefit to turn and work that round from the backside? Very nice video and easy to follow. Lovely addition to my rainy day, thanks.
You can absolutely stay on the same side if you prefer 👍🏻. I noticed it was wanting to skew on me the bigger I went so I started over and turned after every round. That could just be a “me” problem but I also have this issue with regular granny squares . So to fix it, I turn after each round. It keeps it nice and square .
Thank you so much! This is the first time I crochet something other than a straight line and I was managed it thanks to you! The corners were still so difficult to understand but I think I got there!💜

Your videos are amongst the very best out there. Congrats! I would love to see a link to the printed version of this pattern to a valid stopping and starting the video. Many thanks!
I appreciate your kind words and I understand you want a printed pattern. I began my channel to assist crocheters that have difficulty with patterns so I have not ventured into pattern writing as of yet. Sorry about that. I recommend you take notes and then you won’t have to keep watching ❤️
Very interesting way to crochet grannies, new for me. Thanks for this tutorial and your clear explanation which encourage me to learn a different method and enjoy crocheting!🌹🧶🌹🧶🙋🏻♀️🇦🇷🇦🇷
Lovely tutorial to follow. I've tried this pattern so many times and never got it right but now I have! I'm doing a charity crochet challenge for the whole of November, crochet for at least 30 mins every day so by the end of the month I will have made a blanket. I'm thinking my last round should be the cluster round, do you have any suggestions or can point me in the direction of a border?

Thanks so much for this tutorial...although I had to slow down the playback to keep up with you (I'm a beginner). I think the continuous square looks so much better than the traditional square.
Oh good, I’m glad you were able to slow it down. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask . I hadn’t filmed with beginners in mind , so if there is something you need, just let me know. 💕
project made better by kitty endorsement ;) I often crochet while watching youtube videos (even if using a different pattern) and find your tutorials informative and easy to follow. (ATM using your alternating directions granny blanket - still yet to create ravelry project pages for the completed one and the one I'm working on now)
Wonderful! It’s time consuming setting up pages, I get it. I’ve been saying for months I’m going to start a website with corresponding written patterns . 😅 Enjoy your projects and thanks for watching , Judalea 😺💕
Thanks for a great tutorial! Can the rectangle be used for a scarf? If so, what would you recommend for a starting chain? A third of the completion length maybe?

Your videos are amongst the very best out there. Congrats! I would love to see a link to the printed version of this pattern to a valid stopping and starting the video. Many thanks!
I appreciate your kind words and I understand you want a printed pattern.
I began my channel to assist crocheters that have difficulty with patterns so I have not ventured into pattern writing as of yet. Sorry about that. I recommend you take notes and then you won’t have to keep watching ❤️
This is a very pretty granny square. Thank you for sharing it. :)
Thank you so much 🧶❤️
Absolutely love this!
I've been looking for a pattern that I can use to make larger squares. This works wonderfully - thank you!

I'm doing a charity crochet challenge for the whole of November, crochet for at least 30 mins every day so by the end of the month I will have made a blanket.
I'm thinking my last round should be the cluster round, do you have any suggestions or can point me in the direction of a border?
Wonderful! As far as borders, I have two videos on my channel that I think you’ll like.

Love this pattern. Can’t wait to give it a try! ❤
Wow, what a wonderful tutorial and pattern
Thank you so much ❤️
Thanks so much for this tutorial...although I had to slow down the playback to keep up with you (I'm a beginner). I think the continuous square looks so much better than the traditional square.
Oh good, I’m glad you were able to slow it down. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask . I hadn’t filmed with beginners in mind , so if there is something you need, just let me know. 💕
(Thanks Biscuit 😂) This looks really beautiful, I’ll be sure to use it in a future project!
Amazing tutorial. Thank you for the new style of granny squares 🙏😘😊

aww what a cute kitty 😻 Great tutorial!! Thank you!
Great tutorial! Thank you so much. 🧶☕️
project made better by kitty endorsement ;)
I often crochet while watching youtube videos (even if using a different pattern) and find your tutorials informative and easy to follow. (ATM using your alternating directions granny blanket - still yet to create ravelry project pages for the completed one and the one I'm working on now)
Wonderful! It’s time consuming setting up pages, I get it. I’ve been saying for months I’m going to start a website with corresponding written patterns . 😅
Enjoy your projects and thanks for watching , Judalea 😺💕
Thanks for a great tutorial! Can the rectangle be used for a scarf? If so, what would you recommend for a starting chain? A third of the completion length maybe?
