This is SO foreign to me. It's utterly fascinating and horrifying at the same time. I really wish I knew how the girls REALLY feel after married life has set in for a few years.

@@TJWC I grew up in Ireland with these travellers and they have a very different culture. What we see as assimilation, they see as cultural genocide. I meet them where they are and that was one smart move. I’ve seen girls crying before they ever got to the church because of the discomfort they’re in. But I totally see your point. It is a low bar

I wore Converse at my wedding 6 1/2 years ago and seeing this from someone belonging to a culture obsessed with bling made me smile. Her reasoning (comfort) made me smile wider. I just wish these young ladies got to see more of the world and discover themselves before they got married.
Me too! I got fuschia low tops and then got my married name hand painted on them from a shop off of Etsy. I couldn’t imagine myself wearing heels and being uncomfortable all day lol
I wore sneakers too, back in 1996! Would do it again.
My cousin wore white flip flops so she could be comfortable and enjoy the day without suffering blisters and sore feet.
I wore converse at my wedding also!!
If I’m going the uncomfortable route it’d be white platform boots. But yes converse for comfort. I can’t walk in heels anyway😭
She said she paid $500 pounds. $500 pounds does not 12 dresses make. $500 pounds sounds like a very small deposit on that many dresses.
She never said she paid 500 pounds, she said ONE of the payments she made was 500 pounds, that was clear.
She said she made the deposit. And paid 500 in in envelope. We don't know how much of a deposit there was, and if they were gonna pay more at pick up.
£500 for 12 dresses of that size and scale isn't possible. Sometimes isn't right.

Okay, I think I’ve found the bridal shop that Lully was shopping at. It appears to be ‘Bride Angel’ in Finsbury Park London. It’s closed now, but the one review I found for it was a bride who reported her wedding dress was ‘forgotten’ by them. Apparently they then tried to give her the wrong dress, and refused to return her deposit. It seems like they weren’t in business for very long - April 2013 to September 2014.
On watching the episode I wondered if there was some sort of misunderstanding from Lully and her mum perhaps thinking the deposit was the full amount owed (although 500 GBP would be shockingly low for 12 dresses)…However, I’m inclined the think the shop was up to no good here!
When she smiles her whole face shines. Such a doll. I wish her the best, and pray he treats her right.
I'd be interested in seeing what the grooms go through, like what preparation (if any) they get in terms of suit fitting, education/talks from parents about providing etc.
I've seen a few of these episodes where the groom just wears basketball shorts and a wife-beater tank to his wedding! Talk about disrespecting the bride... It's appalling
What I've seen is a lot of drinking. Sometimes they are in charge of buying a caravan.
I think the talks are basically since they are children. Their parents know qms except them to be married at 16 or so so they focus on making sure they can make a livelihood by then and probably educate them on marriage also. I know doe those who work in fairs, they learn to do the job as children or teens and inherit the business when their parents retire.
I saw that the grooms family throws a big party for the bride's family.

Bah, the dressmaker knew she was going to be scammed, so she prepared properly. The dressmaker now has 10 incredibly ugly gowns to try to fob off on someone else.
The dressmaker was an absolute bish. At first I also thought that they were trying not to pay, but after seeing all the crystals fall off when Lully was putting her dress on, then at the reception with loads of the crystals falling off, I knew it was the dressmaker.
It was cheaply made there should always be a second dress for the reception as well it’s an over kill to me
@@starsaligned a second dress for gypsy brides? Because lots of regular brides don’t have a second dress, it’s often thought of as a waste of money. My mum didn’t have a reception dress, she wanted to show off her wedding dress more.

@@AHunt2024 You know there’s a reason 16 yr olds need parental consent for marriage in most of the world. They’re literally children who can’t consent to decisions like that. She was a child bride. And you should follow up to see where these people end up, most of the times the men end up in prison for horrific crimes. And also, if you’ve watched the other episodes, you’d find out that sexual assault is also considered culture for them and romanticised, just because something is culture, doesn’t mean it’s right.
It made me cry that this beautiful young lady's father wasn't able to be there with her on such a big day. She truly looked like a stunning princess. ❤❤
They marry when they are like 14 - 17. So it's child weddings basically.. They are taken out from school at 11, 12 to do housework/babysitting at home.. There is nothing beautiful about it.. It's so sad, I cry for all theese girls.. And somehow it's allowed to continue.. and it's the women who pays the hardest price for it..

these shows only show extreme and dramatic versions of the marriage’s. ppl being married at sixteen after knowing each other for a month just doesn’t happen. it’s always mutual they know each other for 4-6 years and both want to get married badly in most cases.
She did say she got grabbed after the cinema though. That usually means for travellers that the guy corners the girl and tries to make her kiss him. It’s sexual assault.

If I had a shop I would’ve never given them a dress that wasn’t paid for. They can take me to court over it and I’ll win, so why would I give them anything unless I’m covering something up. In 2022 England has just changed the age for marriage from 16 to 18 by the way even just for religious services. So people need to travel up to Scotland if their religions and or customs are for marriage at 16 now (Ireland is already age 18)

Yeah the argument from the brides end is they gave her more than 500 so that's not a deposit. It's possible the lady took advantage of them because travelers are discriminated against in the uk

Travelers are known to pay cash most of the time, so either it was a mistake on the shopkeepers part or they pocketed the money and blamed the travelers since there are still loads of prejudice against them and the shopkeeper probably thought the police wouldn't believe the travelers. Weddings are a big thing in their culture and being able to pay for lavish ones and awesome dresses are part of their pride as people, I don't think they would scam someone and risk their wedding over it.

They probably don’t keep them. Sell them or something. Maybe deconstruct them and use the fabric for something else. Or they might have a storage unit somewhere where they keep stuff that can’t fit in the caravan.

I'm no expert on Traveler weddings nor do I live within the culture or community of this society. In binge watching every series in the "My Big Fat Gypsy...." production and syndication, including spin-off shows and countless documentaries about gypsy weddings....the one thing I have noticed with these little girls marrying at such a young age is that they age quickly. They go from looking young and fresh-faced at 16 or 17yrs old to to look as if they're in their 30s, ever-pregnant bouncing a baby on their hip and pushing a toddler in a stroller. And that's just after a few years of being married. The race to get these girls married and off on their own is emotionally traumatic for them and physically damaging because their bodies are barely ready to have sex, let alone conceive and give birth. It forces them to grow up extremely fast and causes them to age quicker than nature intended. None of this is cute or wonderful. It's just really sad.

I don't think they paid in full as is typical for many formal dress shops. You pay a deposit and then you pay the rest in full upon receiving the garment. Although the quality of her wedding dress and bridesmaid dress was more. In no proper dress shop would you be able to get a bridal gown and 10 bridesmaid dresses for 500 pounds. The girls are pulled out of school early and are often illiterate so business transactions seem to often go awry at least in the gypsy weddings shown on these programs
I felt so bad for Lully with the dress. That timing was terrible. She looked beautiful, though, and I love that she was smart enough to wear sneakers. At that age and much older, I was suffering for cute shoes, lol.

My husband has a business making electric gates. Most travellers pay straight away, probably the majority but some (I won't specify the sub culture) always try to get out of paying... they claim they've paid, they've left the money in the garden, theyve sent it from the bank, one even threatened to bash his head with an hammer... but there is a group of them that he no longer will work for and it really impacts all travellers because then the perception of travellers is all the same. Some of our good friends are travellers and he even employs a traveller and has for 7 years now. I just wish the certain group wouldn't let it down for them all!!!.

If my dresses were paid for & they weren't given to me, there'd be hell to pay. I'd probably have to postpone because I'd be in jail. No way they paid. Mayb her mum was supposed to & didn't & she lied to her daughter. I felt really bad for Lilly over this.

I assumed it was probably something like that too. I did some digging though, and that bridal shop doesn’t have a good reputation (not delivering on orders and refusing the refund a deposit) and closed down fairly quickly. So it’s possible both are at fault, or maybe just the dressmaker
