    Looks good man. I had to fix my frame at my rear upper shock mounts. The pocket in the shock mount collected water and dirt and rotted the frame out right there. I was suprised how well my cheap flux core welder did on the frame. It penetrated all the way to the back side. Old fords are the best man!

      Cole Rippeon Thanks! 🤙 That’s a bad spot. I’m surprised the actual shock mount didn’t rot away. Nice man! Glad it came together for ya! These trucks are the best and are almost infinitely repairable.

      @@TheMinuteMasters haha yea. I did replace the shock mounts too. The mount and the frame became one. When i knocked out the old rivets the mount stayed in place. When i hit the mount with a hammer it took a huge chunk of the frame with it.

      Cole Rippeon Damn! That’s crazy! I’ve never seen that happen before. Nothing like owning your own welder. 🤙

      @@TheMinuteMasters yea definitely. The truck is an 85. The rest of the frame was in great shape. Its all been cleaned and undercoated now but that spot was terrible. I cut a slot in the bottom of the shocks mounts so water and dirt can drain easily. Did it 2 years ago. Still no build up or rust returning. But keep making videos man! I definitely see your channel as one that will blow up eventually.

      Cole Rippeon Good year! Is it carb or EFI? That’s not a bad idea. I haven’t had that problem yet but if I do I’ll have to do that. Sure thing man! I will! I appreciate your support!🤙

      The Minute Masters how did you find this was cracked?

    • @TheMinuteMasters
      @TheMinuteMasters  5 років тому +1

      Gibbs 101 So like I mentioned in the video. I hit a pothole and blew out the shock on the driver’s side. As soon as it happened, my truck started to death wobble until I slowed down. A couple days later, I replaced both shocks up front. Not more than three days later, I blew out the driver’s side shock again and got the death wobble. I still had a good shock left over from the original set. So I swapped that one into the driver’s side. However, I still felt as if the truck wanted to death wobble. I was running out of solutions when I decided to inspect every suspension part to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. Sure enough, I found the crack when I inspected the axle pivot bushing and bracket.

      The Minute Masters I’m definitely gonna look at mine, I might have a crack also.. I have a lift so it might have put some leverage on it and cracked it.

      Gibbs 101 Yeah it’s definitely good to check it out. Lifts usual cause it to crack faster.

    Awesome job man. Got a question. Can you do a video on window seal inside and out on the door. I mean then inside and outside of the the driver or passenger door.

    so hows it held up?

    • @TheMinuteMasters
      @TheMinuteMasters  4 роки тому

      It’s holding up very well! The patch is great and so are the welds. There is was one booger weld on the underside that popped but it wasn’t holding anything.

  • @gregory9740
    @gregory9740 5 років тому +2

    A better way to solve that problem...straight axle swap haha.
    Just a fyi, run stringers beads instead of spot tacks, the weld will be stronger.

    • @TheMinuteMasters
      @TheMinuteMasters  5 років тому +2

      gregory9740 I know right! Lol
      I’m not a welder by trade. So what is a stringer bead?

    • @limeslush
      @limeslush 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheMinuteMasters late comment but stringer bead is just running your weld for any continuous length. Tack welds heat then cool fast and over and over as a weld is not as strong as a continuous bead.

      @@limeslush Good to know thank man! 🤙
      I looked under the truck yesterday and everything is still holding. So far so good.

    Don't mean to rain on your parade, but....It is NOT recommended to weld the frame, as stated by most vehicle manufacturers. The pot hole you struck saved your life! How?... it pointed to severe structural fatigue, were existing fatigue cracks all over this critical structural member of your vehicle were propagating. When repairs are required, it should be performed by an experienced welder, using the proper procedures: a proper repair scheme specifically designed for this repair, type of welding equipment, welding rod(s) and proper weld preparation. It is NOT guesswork. It is a prescribed, engineered method designed by certified professionals. For example: pipeline welders are certificated to very high standards, for a reason! Your life and that of other's is worth doing this kind of repair properly, loss of control of your vehicle is not something to play with! Please have a professional welder examine your repair!

      100nortonfan All good points. I worked for a crane repair company and understand your concerns. However, it was a 50/50 shot and I took it.
      Which reminds me, I actually haven’t looked at the frame since I welded it. I’ll be curious if it held up.

      That cross member should be replaced. Not recommended to weld the frames are heat treated.

    • @TheMinuteMasters
      @TheMinuteMasters  5 років тому

      M Plante It seems people are split on this issue. If only replacing it was as easy as it sounds. I did happen to check it today and the welds and extra plate are holding up well.

    • @mplante7352
      @mplante7352 5 років тому +1

      @@TheMinuteMasters For the time spent to take the engine out you could have popped the cross member out and go to a scrap yard and get another piece in good shape, like i said it's heat treated and when you weld your altering the metallurgy and making that piece physically weaker and is more likely to crack or fail.

    • @TheMinuteMasters
      @TheMinuteMasters  5 років тому

      M Plante Now if I did swap the crossmember out with a junk yard piece. It would still need to be welded to the frame. Wouldn’t that mess with the metallurgy too? Or does a new crossmember bolt in?
