    I’ve been living in Florida for a little over a year, so this is good to know. My wife and I just got our kids an above ground pool. We’re new to this, so hopefully those same methods work for the kind of pool we have lol.

    It sounds like you are assuming the pool owner is using a salt chlorinator or maybe pucks. Does your answer change if liquid chlorine is being added daily?

    I have 8K galón in ground salt water pool at desert home. In years I been taking care of my pool after I fired three pool service men in the past for not showing up & poor maintenance of my pool.
    I programed the pool motor to run at selected lower speed every day for only three hours in the summer from 4am to 7am. And lower then to two hours in winter. I use my pool floor robot vacuum every week for an hour. I clean my salt cell & filters every three months. I add acid as need it every week. No problem with algae or calcium or chlorine levels every month I take my sample bottle with water for a free check up report at local pool supplier.
    Happy safe swimming 💦 🏊 🏊🏊🏊

      This is a good split. How clean does your pool stay? If its really clean, you could cut back the amount of time that your pump is running whereas if the pool isn't that clean, you may need to run more than those 12 hours. It depends on bather load and the landscaping (leaves, grass, pollen etc)

      If you are going to run half your schedule at “night” it makes more sense to do that after 11pm during OFF PEAK HOURS. Call your electric company. It’s 1/4 the cost in my area!

    I don't understand, why would you want the sun to burn off the chlorine? Sorry, I'm a newbie at this! I have a 14 by 42 inch Intex pool. I've just been running it at night to save on electricity. Do you think that's okay? Thanks!!

    • @Inyopools
      @Inyopools  5 років тому

      The idea behind running the system during the day is that the chlorine is being dispersed throughout the pool while constantly sanitizing the pool. If the pool is off all day and it's really hot, the chlorine level can burn off quickly. This is due to the tablets not eroding or a salt system not generating chlorine. However, every pool is different. If your pool maintains a good chlorine level and stays clear, continue to run the pump at night.

    • @keegenkuehne
      @keegenkuehne 4 роки тому +1

      Especially with the undersized pumps and filters that Intex pools come with, I'd think that is not enough for your pool. Your comment was 9 months ago, how clean did your pool stay? Have you changed it up this spring?

    When Am I supposed to use the pump if on the manual it says that there should be no one in the pool while it s running.?

    • @Inyopools
      @Inyopools  4 роки тому

      It is common to swim in pools while the pump is running. We're not aware of any rules against it. There may be some small soft-sided pools that suggest that people not use the pool when the pump is running. In that case, I would unplug the pump while people are inside the pool.

    • @Inyopools
      @Inyopools  3 роки тому

      If leaves are constantly falling in your pool, I'd leave it in there and let it run. If you don't get many leaves or debris, I'd only put it in once or twice a week and let it run until the floor is clean. The cleaner will last longer if it is not always in the pool.

    • @Inyopools

      It is safe to swim in a pool while the filter pump is running. This is assuming that the pool is up to code and has the proper drains and suction cover fittings.

    can i run my above ground pool pump while pool cover is on?

    • @Inyopools
      @Inyopools  5 років тому

      It's possible to run the pump with the cover on. However, it's recommended to drop the water level below the skimmer and return jets when winterizing the pool. In that case, you would not want to run the pump because it would run dry.

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 2 роки тому

      Running the pump only achieves more uniform temperature throughout the pool - it doesn’t effect the water temperature in the long run. The effect of any nighttime cooling will be reversed the following day with any daytime heating.

    • @Inyopools
      @Inyopools  6 років тому

      You can run the pump when it's dusty. You may want to use a skimmer sock on the skimmer basket. This will help catch some of the finer dust particles.

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 2 роки тому

      @@Inyopools No. Skimmer socks definitely do NOT catch dust particles. That would require a mesh so fine that water would barely flow. Some of the advice given by this channel is laughable.

      Dimitra, since every pool is different, we can't definitively say that running your pump 24/7 is right or wrong for your pool. However, it's always good to experiment for yourself in order to save on that electric bill. Hope you have a great pool season!

      Dimitra A that is way too much running on your pump. Especially with the cooler weather in Canada you’re not going to get a lot of algae growing in your pool.
      Ive always had pools and I’ve lived in the Bahamas, Montreal, Canada and in West Palm Beach. The Montreal pool was 40,000 gallons and it was the easiest one to take care of. The hotter and more humid the climate the more prone to unwanted algae’s you get. I would not run your pool any more than 6 to 8 hours a day depending on how hot it is.

    I dont even have to watch. It's a no brainer. If you run the pool pump at night when its cooler outside then you loose heat ,water temperatures will go down.

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 2 роки тому

      Too bad you didn’t watch and learn: The main function of the pump is circulation and filtration. The pump can NOT cool the pool - it only mixes the water to make the temperature more uniform. Any nighttime cooling is 100% reversed the next day with daytime warning. Best practice is to run the pump daytime when the demand for chemical sanitization is highest. The only benefit of running the pump at night is potential cost savings during off peak electricity hours.
