    This video is fantastic. I’ve had above ground pools for 30 years and I follow these same simple steps.
    Neighbors spend MUCH more on chemicals, and get worse results. Something the test-kit-chemists fail to tell above-ground owners is that the chemistry is simplified since we have liners (as do some in ground pools).
    This video of yours should be watched by every above-ground pool owner who wants to spend less time and money…and enjoy their pool more!

    Last year was my first experience with owning an above ground pool. It was great for a few weeks and then it turned into a nightmare. The pool turned green and it took me literally 4-5 weeks working in it every day to finally get it clear enough for swimming again and by that point it was already early September and swimming season was over.
    We drained it this year and started over. It's been almost one full week and I'm so paranoid every single morning when I look out the window afraid it turned green overnight (I may be crazy but it's a legit fear, lol). I've been scouring YT for videos and yours really made me think that just maybe I actually CAN do this. I fear if it turns green again I'll just give up.
    But, this was an AWESOME video and great information--thank you!!

      No wonder the person who gave it away would drain every weekend. I can't drain and waste all that water 😮. I am still learning. I actually just want to quit. Hope all goes well with yours.

Watch that video to learn how to fix a green pool. I open my pool in a horrible state plagued with a ton of green algae every year and I am swimming in a crystal clear blue pool within a week every year. It's really easy to do once you understand what's actually going on in the pool. Good luck to you!

    New pool owner here… went to Leslie’s with a water sample and walked out with $350 in product 😭 their test showed my alkalinity at 53 after it had been adjusted for Cyanuric Acid which they read at 201ppm
    At home I later did multiple Taylor drop tests and strip tests and they were showing alkalinity to be around 140ppm. I called Leslie and the same guy that serviced me answered… he couldn’t explain why their test showed lower readings and told me he would personally go off of the test strips. It was so frustrating and on my own I later learned that high CyA has a tendency to skew alkalinity results and there is a compensation. I decided to trust my research and dumped the 10lb bucket of overpriced baking soda they sold me to raise the alkalinity. Did another drop test and did manual adjustment to compensate for high CyA and the reading was as expected.
    Also, my CyA is high I believe because the previous owner only used chlorine tablets, which I have learned have CyA. I am not going to be using tablets as I’ve heard others use liquid chlorine to prevent CyA levels to be high.

    I'm at a loss on the pool calculator. I'm very new to an above-ground (1100 gallon) pool. Also, where do I get the "vacuum" you demonstrate 2nd in your video? Never mind on the vacuum. I put in the right words and it came up in my search.

    • @DJ2Legit007
      @DJ2Legit007  5 місяців тому

      On the pool calculator, you put in the amount of gallons your pool has. Then put the level of the item you are testing for in the appropriate field then the desired level in the next field. Then press CALCULATE and the pool calculator will tell you exactly how much of a certain chemical, like baking soda or borax or muriatic acid you need to add to get your desired results. It's extremely easy to use once you finally understand what you're doing. Put the current number, then the desired number, then press calculate and follow the directions. Good luck!!

      Yes that's correct. You're welcome.

    • @Peter-Alexander
      @Peter-Alexander 7 місяців тому

      Actually no. This video is not entirely correct. Baking soda is primarily used to increase alkalinity. But if you use it you will also increase ph somewhat. If you want to increase ph only without increasing alkalinity you should use ph+ (or soda ash...it is the same). Soda ash is way stronger than baking soda so be careful not to over do it.

    • @Daks503
      @Daks503 6 місяців тому

      @@DJ2Legit007 not correct. baking soda is sodium Bicarbonate or Alkalinity Increaser. PH+ is sodium carbonate aka soda ash. best method for raising just PH is aeration but that requires a system thats able to force air into the water and force carbon dioxide to gas off from the water. which isnt common in pools unless you have a water feature such as streamers or a waterfall.

      If PH and alkalinity are in line, then I suggest using liquid flocculant. Read the bottle label and add the correct amount for your size pool. Make sure your pump is off. Let it sit overnight. The next day, you will have a clear pool but you will see a ton of dead black algae on the bottom. Vacuum that up VERY SLOWLY. Good luck!

    I prefer a Taylor liquid test kit. You should be checking your cyanauric acid level as well. I assume you are adding that via your chlorine tablets maybe? Do yourself a favor and buy yourself a Hayward automatic pool vac. Best investment ever along with the salt water chlorine generator.

      You know what your current levels are when you look at your test strip and compare it to colors on your test strip container. Remember all of this is NOT exact science. Just ballpark. Take that info to the pool calculator, enter the amount of gallons of your pool and the desired level of each chemical you want. Test the water first for PH, alkalinity and chlorine levels. Follow my instructions to bring the PH and alkalinity in line. The Pool Calculator will tell you how much of each chemical you need to use to get to your desired results. Fresh water usually has the PH and alkalinity perfectly balanced from the get go so you might not need any chemicals for that at opening your pool. Then add chlorine if your chlorine level is low. Then add a floater with two 3 inch chlorine tablets in it and you will be all set for summer swimming!
