My new Model 3 Long Range was set in Chill and I drove "fast" with my wife. When I took a friend, I set it in Standard and his head hit the backrest and yalled. Yes, it IS that fast.
I was about to get the performance, but in addition to the $8,000 increase in price I didn't consider the short life span of the 20 inch tires and $1600 - $2000 for a set of 4 based on what the Tesla rep told me.
I'm heavily leaning towards the long range AWD now, but wondering about the difference in speed and if it's worth the extra $8,000 for performance.
@@WdnUlik2no get the long range with acceleration boost upgrade, only 0.2-0.3 secs less for quater mile time then the performance. If you start the race from a 30 miles roll LR with boost will beat the performance.
@@WdnUlik2no I'm going with the performance. There's a lot more to it than it just being faster. lowered suspension, bigger wheels, better brakes, and track mode where you essentially make it a front, or rear drive car.
@@ronnie_5150 all the extra stuff is cool, and worth it, but not in my price range so I went with the LR
@@WdnUlik2no right now you have a better choice. LR price has increased. You can get either Model 3 performance or BMW i4 m50 for 6k more. m50 is faster than m3 performance.
I managed 4.2 very consistently. its worth mentioning that the speedometer is 100% accurate.
by the way, top speed is 234kmh or 145mph
By consistently do you mean at various states of charge? We’re you getting 4.2’s at 95% and at let’s say 60% state of charge?
Nah, not true, Speedo difference is +2kmh to +4kmh.
And from 100% to 90 % SOC I get 4.0-4.1 sec 0-100kmh
From 89%-80% SOC I get 4.2-4.3
and this number stays until I get under 60%, after that I get like 4.4-4.5 sec down to 30%, after that I didn’t measure 😅
I drove one today for the 1st time. It makes performance cars seem pointless! 😜
Nothing best describes the feeling of acceleration in this car better than a strained sounding "ughh golly", closely folllowed by the g force knocking the phone out of your hand.
2:43
My best run was 4.18s 0-60mph and 3.66s with the acceleration boost (measured with dragy)
Same
Maybe too much weight in the car?
i test drove one and remeber hiting 90 in like 4 seconds and it felt like my head was right next to a cell phone tower
Chill mode is exactly same as 40kwh leaf. Shows the difference
Ok I'm sold
In the first run in STANDARD mode, the .1 second difference could be attributed to EV Dave startling the driver when Dave screamed out as he lost his phone. I found the situation funny, at first, until I remembered how my wife's screams have made me adjust my driving (slowing down) until I could find out what all the screaming was about.
If there was any kind of elevation increase during the test that would make the results noticeably worse. If he purchased the Acceleration Boost for $2000, and then asked Dave to step out of the car before the run, results would have been so much better.
Take a close look at the report it shows all changes in elevation
Actually the acceleration boost makes it perform about the same with passengers 😅. I get 3.9 alone or with 2 others.
@@chriscotton4207 There actually was UA-cam reviewers who compared the (Model 3 LR with acceleration boost) to the M3P, and the results showed that the M3P was still faster when going 0-30 mph. I've owned both.
@@scottbreseke716 what I meant was it's more consistent. Like it's throttled to a g force more than a power output.
Also I love my m3lr. I drove the m3p for a few weeks and I'm glad I didn't go with it. It's got more punch feeling at every speed. But they ride so hard. The lr at least feels like a comfortable ride
@@chriscotton4207 I loved my M3 LR also, and bought the Acceleration Boost when it became available. I traded it in for my M3 P after 2 years. I thought the ride was a bit rough when on uneven pavement, so I bought 18" Martian Wheels, and put Pirelli P-Zero All Season Electric tires on them. That cured the rough ride problem completly and gave me much better efficiency. 280 instead of 360.
😂 chill mode is still quicker than my 2013 Sentra
Draggy was laughing so hard on the inside it could barely spit the numbers out.
This sounds exactly like my commute, 60 miles each way, just got the Long Range model 3, love it so far, any tips for these long commutes?
For long commutes I recommend using autopilot/adaptive cruise control and going at the 65 mph speed (you won’t come to your destination that much quicker by going any faster). Avoid using friction brakes and always try to use as much even braking as possible. Avoid pressing the accelerator heavily while driving uphill as that will drain your range the most. What I like to do is if I know there’s a downhill road right before the uphill, I’ll accelerate a bit extra like to 80 mph and then apply lighter acceleration on the uphill part where it’ll decelerate slowly back to 65.
@@BRBallin1 very interesting, good advice, been driving it since, love the car
The referral link is valid only if you order new Tesla online or I can use referral link even if I buy 2021 model used one ?
I can't wait until I can do the same thing with my 3 second 0 to 60 Aptera!
Who would I go to to make my roof all black like yours and how much did it cost you?
Thank you for the review Respect
I found when I used a DRAGY it increased my 0 to 60 time by .1 seconds when I had a passenger onboard and a couple of times it was a full .2 seconds. That was with my MY LR AWD.
240 pounds of balist does that 😊
@@evdave528 I’m 225 and impacted my buddies PMY by over .1 seconds on three runs. So when I tested my MY with Performance Boost I did it solo. My 0 to 60 is 4.14 w/o the 1 ft rollout or 3.94 with.
I actually scared myself on a test drive (2x no less) with the acceleration in a 2021 single motor SR+, so it's crazy to realize that was the "slow Tesla" and there are like 3 to 5 levels of FAST over and above this base model (counting the S and its versions).
Yeah it’s way faster than an ICE car, I see your Tesla Smile
I have an SR+ and had to take it in for a warranty issue, they put me in a boosted AWD. My car is just slow now, it has no power…
@@evdave528 Being fast is cool, but what about everything else? Is it as nice as a Mercedes?
@@evdave528 Faster? then what ICE car? (Faster how? In a straight line, around a corner, down a mine shaft? 😂).
There’s so much more to being performance than straight line drags.
Tesla people are certainly special when it comes to their ‘cars’. My current daily drive, an ice vehicle has a “claimed” 0-100km/h (a touch over 62mph) of 3.8 seconds. The car constantly returns between 3.3 & 3.4 (remarkably constant).
In comparison my neighbours Tesla Model 3 performance with the dual motors he tells me has a claimed 0-100km/h in 3.3, yet I’ve never actually seen those numbers, just shy of it constantly.
That’s where the comparisons end as far as the two vehicles go & I e we won’t comment further because I was only questioning your comment relating to fast & Im sure we will never agree on other issues that surround these monstrosities you call Tesla 😂
@@GR8Tmate The debate between Tesla & ICE owners is hilarious, it's like the Android/Apple debate, it's just personal preference dude, both car types have their merits, true car enthusiasts can see that objectively.
The statement was a bit ambiguous, but I see what he's saying, mid range punch normally leaves ICE cars lagging behind initially because of the instant power & torque availability and lack of gears, thats not subjective, its just facts based on the tech, if a cars delivering constant power and torque vs one that has to back off to change gears (and thats still the case for a fraction of a second even in a dual clutch auto), it's going to give the EV the edge, just basic science.
You can literally see this phenomenon happening in real world tests online with mid-range acceleration between equivalent cars like the BMW M3 & Model 3 Performance.
0-100 times may be identical, but power and torque curves aren't so they might hit the same speed at the same time but they feel totally different getting there.
Acceleration booster is 100% worth it, I get 0-60 in 3.6.
Great videos! Regards from Germany!👍
should be 4.2 w/o acceleration boost? That is what I have other videos consistently showing before adding AB. Slight incline? Weight?
As I said it had a75% charge it would probably be faster at 100%
Dave, I would like hear your opinion on the new VW ID. 4... Thinking about purchasing one for my wife towards the end of the year. Thank You!!
What do you use for timing car speeds from 0-60?
Draggy. dragy 10Hz GPS Based Performance Meter, 10Hz GPS Laptimer (DRG69) a.co/d/hpkfZct
It seems like chill mode in the pre-2021 model is considerably slower than the refresh. My LR (2021) doesn't feel that slow in chill mode. I'll have to find somewhere to do timed runs
It’s about half power on the floor
@@Scottyl35 I haven't bought it yet but I think I will. It's £1500 in the UK, I feel it's worth it for the 3.7 second sprint
No just stick power no power boost
How much range was left at 93%?
Need a car in June, 2021. I am 6'4". Last year I drove less than 6000 miles. 3 or Y? Buy or Lease? Would like to pick up the car in Tesla Texas but don't think that factory will be ready in time. Take care.
I’m also interested in the buy or lease question. I’ll be buying in late 2022.
Model Y should fit fine, be sure to use a referral code for free supercharging
@@evdave528 Will do. I have it saved.

Try them.
I have DM3 and SRY. I think at your height the Y will be a much better choice.
Both are ok...drive them and chose the one you like better
2:50 you’re welcome
What year is this slow car? Why Tesla claim it is 4.2sec 0-60 time?
2020 I think
Why you guys dont put on sport mode??
Sport if you have acceleration boost
Draggy is clearly bugged out or somethin wrong wth tht Tesla. My 2022 long range gets 3.5 seconds in sport mode
The Performance M3P can reach those numbers not the long range like I tested
Hey my name is irvin too
And the moral of the story...keep hold of y' phone.
I could barley beat a local one in my ss camaro I wish I had a tesla right now...
I think Phone lates.. 4.2 its havd to be
Mhm seems slower then usual.. 4.6 is not normal, should be 4.1.
I've got a 2022 Model 3 LR and best I've ever gotten is 4.09 0-60 and the worst being 4.23 due to hill. I'd be getting your Tesla checked if it's 0.6 higher then usual. and I was at 53% SOC when I got 4.09.
I’ll check it
Thanks
I’ve watched like 8 videos all showing 4.6 with no passengers . And 4.8 with passenger . Maybe you’re the one who got lucky with a faster Tesla?
That's AWD right? The long range model 3..?
Yes
ONLY TWO MODES?
hell no i keep my bmw m340i is stock And it do 0-60 in 3.8 sec
My Model 3 performance is 3.057 0-60
@@evdave528 👍
Those are more expensive than a M3LR. That m340i gets gapped easily by the Performance models and beyond.
Sloooowwwwww
Cockkkkkkkkkkkkk
do they not teach people how to use a wheel properly in the US. lol.. no wonder the standard of driving is abysmal in America
