I am nothing but grateful to these outstanding pilots and crew for maintaining such high safety standards, demonstrating amazing kindness and consideration for their passengers, and expressing their love for their beautiful country. It’s absolutely crystal clear that the Captain is very protective of that route….. it’s his ‘baby’ and he wanted to show it off to a fellow AV Geek who he knew would appreciate it as much as he does every time he flies there. ❤ It was obvious this was the Captain’s favourite scheduled flight of the week. Kindness is also a brilliant lesson for his F/O to see, especially right before his Captains exam. I bet that Captain is responsible for several great Captains that now exist in PIA. You can just tell he’s one of those great people to learn from. No airs and graces, patience, encouraging to his colleagues and clearly loves and appreciates the job he does very much. He should be cloned and sent to every airline lol.
Also….. £214??? For that!?!? How utterly and ridiculously cheap for such an experience! I’m absolutely green with envy, but also so glad that you shared that trip with us all, Noel. What a treat, for you and for us!😊

Wonderful people and the flight crew on PIA who I never would have considering flying with before gave you a once in a lifetime experience riding jumpseat. I recently took a trip up to the Delta Museum of Flight in Atlanta and booked a Delta 767-300. The captain invited me up to the flight deck and allowed me to sit jumpseat right until we pushed back, but with FAA regulations in the states these day he just could not allow me to stay during the flight. He and his first officer where just great and we chatted for over 30 minutes on the flight deck of a 33 year young 767 it was almost as cool as being in flight but not quite. The cockpit is the worlds best workstation. To be invited on to the flight deck was an almost unheard of honour. The view was beyond amazing. The work involved to build the roads in that terrain. And the views of both the mountains and the rivers flowing from them. A slightly different view to a take off from Gamston then over flying Retford and the mighty river Idle and the Chesterfield canal. I was born and raised in Retford. Took my first flights from there. Many happy memories both from there and from what became Doncaster airport back when it was still an RAF base. The closure of that airport was a tragic end of an era. To look back Gamston had Hurricane night fighters protecting Sheffield. Doncaster had Polish Lancaster bomber crews during the war, later Vulcan bombers during the Cold War

The beautiful clear weather made for a far less stressful flight for the pilots to avoid those mountains (or as aviators call them in poor visibility "granite clouds"). The kindness and hospitality of the Captain to invite you up to the flight deck will be a treasured memory of yours I'm quite sure. Safe journeys.
