JAL premium economy gives you lounge access. Shame they didn’t tell you. Also I find using the time at the destination all through the flight helps reset your biorhythms.

$480 for a 1 way flight from Los Angeles to Hanoi via Tokyo Narita is not bad. Last June, when I flew China Eaetern airlines from Ho Chi Minh to London via Shanghai, it's $390 and it's cheap.
Yes but Japan was still closed to tourism and Vietnam had just reopened. That's why JAL was cheaper than usual.

I totally sympathize your situation with tight connection time, bro.
I think airlines should not enable ticketing if the connection time is less than 2 hours.
Otherwise you spend the entire flight worrying if your outbound flight will be delayed and the anxiety totally destroys your enjoyment of the flight.
Also not fair for the connecting flight to wait for the delayed incoming flight.

Hello, Jack 👋.(I wanted to say "Hi, Jack" but that doesn't seem appropriate for an airline review. 😱🤣) Nice review. You really were quite fortunate to have received that upgrade to Premium Economy Class, especially in an exit aisle. Doesn't get much better than that. Like you, I totally stress out when I have a short connecting time. I always try to arrange at least a 2 hour layover between flights even if the airline suggests taking an earlier flight. Delays are quite common these days and I would rather be at my gate with plenty of time to relax, read a book and have a snack. One suggestion for you, it would be nice if you described the meals that you are served on board and comment on their taste, quality and portion size. You could just leave a comment or the menu in your description or leave a "pinned comment". Meal service may not be important to you but they can actually influence my choice of airline, especially on long haul flights. I am sure that other people would agree with me. If you can't do this in your future airline reviews, I certainly understand. Take care. I will be looking forward to your impressions of Vietnam. 👍🤗❤️✈️🙏🌎
