There should be a lot more like this in the future! Next weeks video will be in my "usual" format though - this new style takes a lot longer to plan and edit!
Bury line might be close too. East Dids sort of loops back on itself. Airport the bike would likely win easily as tram is so slow through Wythenshawe. Ditto Ashton & Trafford Centre due to on street running I suspect. Rochdale I'd expect the bike to win (though the train would beat both) as again, not the most direct route for the tram, but it's mostly old railway line so might be closer than I expect...
I very much enjoyed that. I am not overly familiar with Manchester or its transport network, so the video was interesting from that perspective. However, I also enjoyed the race element, the jeapordies you both faced, and the fact that both you and Karl come across as thoroughly nice people.
This is my first proper video that isn't just a linear sped up video - I hope you all like it! If you're new here and think I sound weird - watch this video and you'll be bought up to speed - ua-cam.com/video/qMhpfn4y8mw/v-deo.html Also, if you're considering commenting anything regarding helmets, I'm not interested in that debate!
Wow, you have strong legs! I worked as a courier with ebikes in Amsterdam and whenever the 'e' didn't work it was slow going. They're much heavier than my bikes.
I've been trying to ween myself off the "e" part so quite often have it in mode 0. When it's completely dead (like it was here) it's a lot harder though
I love this! Does Karl have a channel of his own as well, or is he just a perpetual guest appearance on other's travel channels? Great job with the B-roll footage to make this a produced feature too. Really enjoyed watching, and I hope there's going to be more!
Nice thing about the Netherlands is that almost all one way streets are just one way for cars. With a bike you can go both directions. This makes the bike, together with many special cycle paths, the fastest way to travel within cities 😊
I've seen one way streets in the UK that have a contraflow bike lane, or just say below the no entry sign "except cycles". Bikes being exempt from one way rules make perfect sense because bikes aren't fat, cumbersome in tight spaces and space inefficient, and can filter through without interfering with traffic.
The Manchester Metrolink is still expanding including to Port Salford and future expansions including to Stockport and the Wythenshaw Loop. And maybe Manchester Metrolink could extend to Bolton.
When I go into office, it’s 5 min walk from GMex and I live 10 min walk from Nav Rd. I cycle for as much of year as possible along canal to Castlefield. Cycling always beats the tram/walk. The tram is even slower on the on street sections. Pre 1991 Alty to Man Picc was 25 mins; no such chance of chat now.
Interesting you took the canal path rather than up the A56, given much of it has the cones and cycle track these days and obviously don’t need to battle with pedestrians for space. You can get some real speed down there.
Very little of the A56 has popup lanes, and there are many more red lights that are poorly timed for cycling. I know this because I use that route regularly.
Thinking about it, Tram vs Bike for Rochdale to Manchester Vic would be interesting as for the bike, the best route may be down the canal till Mills Hill or Failsworth and the tram obviously has to go through Oldham... (Train ofc would be an unfair advantage, but then again Northern)
That was a lot of fun to watch. I thought you would lose to Karl considering the problems you had with your bike. But no, you won! I must say that I don’t think I even dare to right a bike in Manchester.
I started watching with the view it will be a no contest, the tram will win easy then 5 minutes in I see it’s an electric bike! Still, I thought, no contest, the tram all the way but congrats to the biker, you smashed it despite the 3 chain failures. Well done 👍🏾
One way streets are the bane of my existence as a cyclist. If there's space, they should have a seperate bike lane to allow bikes to go against the flow of car traffic.
Jen, I know you are a good cyclist, but I am concerned about the not so good motorists (like the light blue car that pulled out at 2:23 in your video). Please Jen wear a safety helmet ! I have four stitches in my head, after coming off a bike.
@@JenOnTheMove I suppose it isn't. Only just seen you're no helmet debates comment, so apologies there, only reason I commented is because I just feel its better to have one on (especially when around bad drivers)

It was very well made
Does he have a UA-cam channel. Don’t mind me asking.
Just for shiggles all trams should have that jaws music playing over the outside speaker, especially when snaking through the gardens.
Loved this format. Reminded me of your guest spot on Geoff’s channel. Liked all the ‘B roll’ of the tram, and the great work on editing.

Love these videos jen
Ha.. unlucky with the multiple chain issues.. but congratulations on the win. I enjoyed watching that :)

“Perpetual guest” appearances on other people’s channels seem to be my speciality now! 😄

Brilliant video. :) I'm looking forward to seeing more like this. :)
Superb bit of filming and great idea well executed please do more
Great video. Congratulations to you both
They both have bells though!
Love the video! Great sinister tram music👌
Absolutely awesome video Jen, well done to both of you

Love these! “Take me on a date if you’re going to get that close to me!” Brill
Forgotten how loud the tram is on that section from Altrincham 🙉
Why was the race with a tram/bike instead of including the train?
Well done Jen and Karl, bit of a so and so that chain of yours coming off...
Take care, Jon B.

@JenOnTheMove, Karl, there is 10 wheels on a single tram and around 25 on a double

How is biking in Manchester ?
i think it about 32 wheels on the tram
07:18 - You're gonna need a bigger e-charge (does the Ed Byrne self-congratulatory dance a la mock the week).
Just remember, for copyright reasons this is most definitely not the Jaws soundtrack and similarities are entirely coincidental 😂
Biking seemed fun! So I kind of sided with Jen over this
Brilliant collab, can you do history of Yorkshire motorways?
Rematch with e?
And if you do a rematch with an e, you gotta take G
Karl, you must be getting used to walking out of those doors at Piccadilly passed the statue in 2nd place ;)
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
8 wheels on the tram
trams have 12 wells
9:49 LED Pelican Crossing Wow
As an Australoian I always get nervous when Jens on her bke because it's law here to wear a helmet
20. Wheels
GdayJen hope your doing okay beautiful🥰👍 And sure be fun with you:)

16 weels on a tram jen

Where's your cycle helmet?
Hung up on the door
Loved this. Did Karl Welsh on the Greggs?
We just forgot 😃
YOU should NOT do it from Wythenshawe to stockport
I love your vids
12 wheels
Some hairy roads there.
I could have stayed on the canal most of the way but it takes a bit of a detour at the Manchester end... Not what you want when you're in a race!
Do Preston
