- Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Cost of Living
Puerto Vallarta is a great place for expats, retirees and location independent nomads to live. There are city amenities, shopping opportunities and Nature lovers will find an abundance of riches, from lush tropical forests to wide sandy beaches. Travel and Leisure magazine named it “the friendliest city in the world.”
So how much does it cost to live in Puerto Vallarta? For less than $1,000 per month, it’s possible to live in a nice area within walking distance of the beach. $1,400 per month is comfortable. Most nomads and expats I know live within this range. For $2,000+ per month and you can live very well. In this video, I’ll break down these budgets in more detail and give you specific examples… I will talk with people living in each one of these price ranges and will tour apartments in these price ranges as well.

USA citizens are very welcome here, we love you because the mayority are very respectful and you come here to make our economie a little bit better and we are happy to welcome you because of that and thank you for it!! Plus you can eat the best food IN THE WORLD!!!!
esther casoluengo, Thank you for the warm welcome.
I need more info I'm in Dallas Texas I am retired and I love this place Puerto Vallarta who can I talk to about renting an apartment for one year it's just myself I don't want nothing big
I am in love with the views...Wow...and the food looks great too..
Very much look forward to visiting next year!
Said the spider to the fly....
My wife and I have lived in Puerto Vallarta since April 2022. This is a good video and the prices have remained in the ballpark. We have found walking the neighborhoods and asking for rentals works well. Also look for Venta Signs on houses. Renting directly from the owner makes prices lower and are sometimes negotiable. We are just moving into a clean upstairs 2 BR 2BR (with hot water) completely furnished with A/C, Smart TV and Wi-Fi included 11,000 MEX per month in a nice convenient neighborhood. For those that want to attend Catholic Mass, there is an 10AM Sunday English-speaking service at the old Our Lady of Guadalupe Church downtown at Centro Plaza. Crime and Covid are low. Watch out for pickpockets (especially in supermarkets), friendly scammers and the always present beggars, It's amazing that you can ride one end of the town to the other for 10 MEX (have the correct change). Enjoy your visit!
Currently living in PV. This info is very accurate. I will add that residing 20 to 30 minutes away from The Malecon will reduce expenses by 25 to 40 percent. Your quality of life will not be diminished. 😎🍸
Don Hobson, Thanks for watching and sharing your information.
This is funny, I tried to live in Canada when I was younger, did not adapt and ended up returning to my beautiful country and now I finally appreciate it, with all the inperfections, Mexico is far from perfect!! But there are a LOT of reasons why is easier to be happy here!!! One is food!! LOL!!! Other is weather, one more is people, culture... but there are things that cannot be explained
esther casoluengo, I agree completely. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
@Esther
"and now I finally appreciate it":
your wording previous to this led me to think you mean Canada...
but you mean, " and now I finally appreciate it (Mexico)", true?
Gracias, and I'm thinking to move to PV...maybe we could have a chat over a cafe' con leche!
I live in Canada but, like you, was born in the sunny south, the Caribbean...
@@adad1270 move is never too late
What don't you like about it? What do you enjoy in Canada that you are not able to have in Mexico?
Well done. No contest, the best production of this type I've seen. As someone who's been to PV a few times, but still has lots to learn, I loved this and think it is well-balanced and accurate. Congrats.
Robert Morin, Thank you very much for the positive comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

@@LivingOverseasTV hey man! Because of you I was able to find a place! I'm taking over Francine's lease
Hi Jim, This is exactly what people have been asking me about in the thousands of comments I received on the great video you did with me. It also helps the many naysayers that said my apartment was a one off, reasonable rents no longer exist, etc., etc., etc.! Beautifully filmed, edited and put together as always and I think I tie with Claudia as your #1 fan. I have met several people who made the move recently due to your videos and chose my lifestyle and all are very, very glad they did so. I think a video on the various type of residency and income requirements would be very helpful. While my budget is $1000 USD - I am a full time resident for 11 years, it is not my income as I would not have qualified for permanent residency. I also obtained working papers and a segment on this would be helpful too. I hope all of your videos inspire people to make the leap and move to amazing Mexico.
Hi Francine I love your episode, I email you a few weeks ago trying to find a place. thanks
Hi Francine! I really enjoyed your episode. You are beautiful both inside and out and I love the sparkle in your eye and how happy you look. Many blessings to you 🙏🏼
Francine you have a great place. 👍
so beautifully said
Yes please!! Residency & requirements video please.
Hi there, I watched a lot of videos on Puerto Vallarta, here on UA-cam and I can honestly say this is one of the best I've seen yet, so I would just like to say, thank you so much, as I found this most informative... "a five star video."
Sheel, Thank you very much!
Greatly informative to anyone considering a move to Mexico. You covered a lot of the essentials in an easy to understand manner. Thanks.
Harry Dost, Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic !!! This was absolutely the best and most informative video on cost of living I’ve ever seen..
I’m 58 years old and just retired and I can teach English overseas..
I have experience and. TEFL certificate.. and hope I have find a 1 bedroom apartment or condo that’s close to everything
Thank you again
Blessings Greg
greg medbourn, Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I will be posting a video in the near future with neighborhood tours.
@@LivingOverseasTV a BIG thank you for what you're doing and sharing the wealth of information! I absolutely love Puerto Vallarta and Mexico in general, and I'm so looking forward to the day I can relocate there! I'm really looking forward to your PV neighborhood tour informational videos. While I love Zona Romantica, Centro and Cinco de Diciembre, I am open to exploring further out in PV if it's safe, and certainly to reduce costs even more. Again, thank you so much for this information!
Keep in mind that wages in Mexico are low - that's one of the reasons it's an inexpensive country to live in for people with a foreign income, but it also means you won't make a lot of money working here - and if you work inside the country (rather than remotely for a job in another country), it's MUCH more difficult to get legal residency, since the country doesn't have enough good jobs for Mexicans, and they are given priority.
I live in Guadalajara, and almost half of the population here makes 350 USD or less, sometimes much less, PER MONTH. Better jobs, with higher wages, certainly exist, it's a modern country - but with that huge pool of underemployed people, companies have little incentive to pay good wages, so they don't. Almost everyone here is underpaid, including professionals. The work days are long, 10 hours a day is not unusual, and the work week is 6 days, not 5 days, although Saturday is a short day in most jobs. Americans working in Mexico for Mexican companies are usually shocked at the differences in pay and working conditions.
All of that said, you may be able to work out all the logistics and live and work here. Good luck with it!
Very well done! I learned a great deal. Thank you for providing all of this information.
I would need a job or source of income in Mexico and would be happy in a simple one-bedroom apartment. Life here in the states is outrageously ridiculous.
Thank you for the well done and clear video! It is wonderful.
If you get a job in mexico you will live like a mexican so about how you live now if your crazy poor. Get a telejob.
The key is living in Mexico and generating US $$$ or have a really good source of income in Mexico.
You are dreaming too high. You don’t want to move into a country to work. You cannot work as an illegal.
You need legal papers to be able to live in Mexico unless you want to live here as an illegal.
Don’t ask questions to the illegals living in Mexico.
Thank you, Angelica. That is information I was after. Unsure how to go about that or what would be an appropriate income to live there.
@@amycharboneau4828you can work as an English teacher or web developer remotely
Thanks for the most comprehensive video I’ve seen on UA-cam so far
This is the best video about Mexico living I have seen! Great job and thank you 😊
Great job ! Just what I wanted to hear !
I love your videos because you give us prices, so we get an idea of what is the reality according to the lifestyle one is choosing… great work
Prices, si si, mucho lmportante para me. Jim from California... mucho expensivo here but I've never known anything else. Good luck all. May the King of Kings be your guide.
Amazing video, looking forward to viewing more
Your videos are on point. Great work - My favorite videos for expats
Wow. This is probably the most thorough video I've seen about living abroad. I've seen what has to be almost 100s of videos on similar topics, and this is amazing. Thank you very much for making this beautiful vidoe.
Spending $2000 U.S a month puts you in the top 1% of the wealthiest in all the country.
That’s a lot! We are two people living on anywhere from $13-1600/month, which is enough for us.
That is utterly hilarious! 2000 a month barely allows for a middle-class lifestyle. Mexico is a very wealthy country, with one of the strongest middle-class sectors in the world. Mexico has a vast population of millionaires and billionaires. You are way off the target.
Very informative, thank you for making this vid. I’ve learnt greatly from your excellent content, especially the different rental price ranges.
Best videos I've seen that you do you cover everything thoroughly
Great informative video! Definitively interested in a video on residency.👍
Yes give us the next 2 videos. Thank you!
Great information! Thanks!
Great job, sir! Thank you!
Thank you so much for these videos, and yesss can you please make residency requirements video ❤️❤️❤️
Fabulous and informative video really enjoyed this. Thank you
This is great man, thanks!
Absolutely fantastic video Jim! You did it again, your accuracy & talents are amazing! Love the short clip with Nathan it, he was happy it turned out so well! Cant wait to share this and your others on the blog. Also happy to see people realizing there are tons of great deals on low cost apartments in mexico. Good job my friend!
Great video again. Well balanced and informative. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, Your video was very informative.
Thanks, well done video and very informative.
I used to live in PV. I want to come back!! Thank you for the videos!
Thanks for the video. Really nice to see the different price points for the rentals.
Todd Anthony Wheeler, Thanks for watching! I'm working on a video about the different neighborhoods now.
Hi Jim what I love about your videos or blogs is that you get other people involved and they also give their advise and comments which other you tube makers do not do .I love Olga's apartment although it is missing a lounge area if it rains .I would love to join her dancing classes when I move there
Thank You, for all the Great Info,,,looking forward to heading down to Puerto Vallarta in Febuary in 2022...
Nice Pad, like your tour and that you mentioned the price point!
Excellent video. Informative. Not a bunch of fillers. Gave some real examples with real people. Solid info. Amazing the prices.
Terrific coverage. Very informative. Well thot out. Spoken so that every word could be understood. No overbearing music. Great job. Much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge you answered most of my questions. 👌🏼
Jerry Weinstein, Thanks for watching. What other questions do you have? I will try to answer them in future videos.

Just subscribed! Very well done.. plenty of information👍
Love to know requirements for residency. Great video lots of information
Eric Marr...I really enjoy your video's. Just sold a medical company and am looking for places to stay for an extended stay and your insights and information makes it easy to look at trying PV. Thanks so much!
I have spent countless hours on viewing many youtube bloggers mexico lifestyles channels, and I can honestly say none of them compare to your channel. You provide a closer in depth view point that is often so required. I appreciate you. Thank you~
Studio 13, Thanks for the kind words!
Yes! A fantastic video! Thanks!!
What an accurate and informative video! Thanks a lot to the author for sharing. I am a German living in London and the harsh winter will arrive soon. Now my mind is with Mexico. I am considering traveling there this or next winter. Such beautiful beaches, gorgeous mountains, views, nice people, and fresh fruit. What do you need more to be content? Often the simple things are the ones that make happy :)
Hope you made it here!
Great video. Good overview of costs to live in PV. Very affordable ,and this is expensive for Mexico.
thanx so much for all the info, fantastic info ...
Glad it was helpful!
I just looked at Portosonto last week! Such a fantastic building. Can't wait to move there
Jeff Noble, Very nice. Are you moving into the Portosonto building or just to the area?
I have a time share 10 min south of PV “Costa Sur”. Costa sur may not be the most modern studio apartments , but is the friendliest place I’ve ever been to! I’ve been going there for 15 years and plan to keep going as long as I can. PV is the safest place in Mexico!
Thanks a million for such an illustrative and informative video, the info is EXACTLY what one needs when preparing to move down there! And yes, I personally would very much like to see a video about obtaining temporary and permanent residency for Canadians in MX.
NarsilRenewed, Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
Very informative video! Keep it up.
Love this place I will go this winter
Very informative, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. Great presentation.
Love your videos, Jim. Many of the places that you visit, are places that we want to retire to.
We have been to Puerto Vallarta and many of the other places that you feature.
Keep up the great work!

I'm eager to leave the US and doing research to determine where I'll go. I never considered Mexico but this changed my mind. Thx for providing such great information.
Great detail in this video
Thank you! Cheers!
We have been to PV many times (about 20+) & are now able to stay for several mths, but need something very affordable. Your video is a great help. Thank you!!!!

Gracias, excelente informacion.
Thank you for this - what great information for someone hoping to make the move one day - hopefully sooner than later. I would love to see a video about residency
I would love more videos that speak about how to go about either moving or dipping your toes in Mexico living. COL compared to USA in all areas. This video was very informative and beautiful done. Just recently discovered your channel and love it. thanks!
Great video. I spent 8 days there a lil over a week ago and was not ready to go. I could really see myself living there for the 6 months out of the year. It’s a beautiful and very relaxed city and the people were super friendly. Can’t wait to go back next year. Only this time I will stay longer for sure
Whitney Walsh, Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for leaving a comment.
Thanks so much-great info !
Cathy Stopfer, Thanks for watching. I'm glad you found the video helpful.
Thanks for showing the magnificent views and sharing the useful tips.😀👍
My pleasure 😊
@@LivingOverseasTV 🙏🙏
Guillermo and Veronica have a great thing going on there. I would love to be a landlord like that in retirement :-)
I was really impressed with this cost of living video. My wife and I have long considered relocating to Mexico from the US. Out of all the videos we’ve considered, this is the most comprehensive of all. Thank you very much!!
This was a super helpful video - thank you! Olga's place is so unique and that rooftop is amazing. I'm not as young as I used to be and that hill and all the stairs would do me in.
jovicrazed, I'm glad you found the video helpful. Centro Vallarta does start getting steep about five blocks away from the beach. I'm working on a video about the neighborhoods and I think I will include information about good areas without hills.
@@LivingOverseasTV Looking forward to that video. Thanks!
Like that people are amazed bye this when i see this all day
Yes residency overview, please!
Most informative. Thank you! I am also interested in a video on immigrating to Mexico and the types of Visas.
A brilliant production, thank you for you're efforts 👌, new subscriber
Excellent video!! This is a must watch for people wanting to visit/retire in Puerto Vallarta.
Bill Cooper, Thank you.
I would like to see the residency video as well. For non- retirees too. :) I'd love to also see one video that shows the difference of a bunch of neighbourhoods. General age range/noise pollution/high-low tourist zone/available shopping and bar-restaurants/proximity to beach and mountains and hiking, as well as purchase and rental averages per area.
So many people post to the FB groups, "where should I live" and the answers are always "well no one can know that but you" which is fair, but, people need a starting place. I am sure it would get alll the views. Thanks for the good quality videos!
T, Thanks for your recommendations. I've been working on a video about the neighborhoods for a while. It will still be a month or more before it's complete but you have some great ideas that I will include.
Go take a week vacation.
I am looking for a place to rent in 2024 January and February maybe March,I would like something on the main level,as I have a small dog.I’m coming up January 20 of 2023,I would love to meet up with someone to get a place for 2024.
Wha you need to find out is if you can live in Mexico. You to the Mexican consulate and ask for information first. You should not ask questions to American or Canadians illegals
@@lindakazsals8858 what are you referring to? We are legal Mexican residents and we own a home in Mexico. Not sure what your comment means.
Mexico keeps sounding better and better.
This is such an amazing place and very affordable. Thanks for sharing.🌸🇵🇭🇦🇺
My pleasure 😊
