@@offthecouch1999 I really like that. That’s a keeper “Obtainable retainable and maintainable” I believe that will really be great for some scouts to hear.
@@richardhenry1969 thanks a ton. When I was in scouting my scoutmaster made a big point on that. To insure you were retaining a recreatable solution to problems
Great video, great suggestions! Particularly love the soap in the sock tip! Being overweight and having serious health issues, I find I have to minimize bringing equipment to test/train on and often focus only on most immediate and critical needs. For example, I carry a tourniquet, some gauze, and an elastic bandage for first aid. These will treat immediate emergencies, with smaller wounds/injuries having to wait. Same goes for food, which I limit to no more than 600 calories for a day hike. Sometimes my carry isn't very satisfying, but the need to shed weight is most pressing
Hello Dakota..! Just found your channel and subscribed. I enjoyed your talk with Blackie very much. Maybe the three of us can get together for another round table..! 🐻
That would be a blast. I'd love to make it happen. Here's my UA-cam email berbiglerdakota@gmail.com feel free to message me with details. And thanks a ton for the support My friend 🙂
Hey I'm glad you caught that. I was wrong in saying that 5 20$ bills fit in that one. I changed out to the ust whistle about a month ago and recently had a wider plastic whistle that had more space. Thanks a ton for catching that. In that particular one there o just have the 100$ bill rolled up in it
I just found this video. I noticed Blackie and it peaked my interest. I am glad I took the time to watch this. It was refreshing to see both of you support if not totally agree with each other. I enjoyed seeing the difference in items and the reason it was included. How many items were the same in both bags? Knowledgeable people like Blackie offering info on the items you choose to include instead of trying to change your mind to conform to his way of thinking or his needs. When you can set your ego aside and watch and observe what others are doing and saying and not worrying about I or Me as the first word out of your mouth, You are on your way. I just sub to this channel and have been subbed to Blackie's for years. Keep the great videos coming.
Thank you for the kind words my friend. Here's hoping that you enjoy the channel for years to come. We're on a bit of a hiatus here due to my job. Only small videos will be posting until September and then we'll get out into the woods and camp pretty hard
We had similar principles on our fire and shelter though my bag personally was set with 3 days rations and the necessities of fire light and first aid. Where blackie whas set for 24 ish hours and woodcraft. I e since moved in that direction myself and roll my food into my bedroll. Makes for a better days tramp on the wilderness. Another big feature between his kit and mine. Is that his design to be paired with a bag where mine is designed to simply accommodate a bedroll. We also go into the woods for significantly different things on most occasions. One being true is to smooth it on both sides though.
Thanks man. Honestly having you there made me feel so much more comfortable trying to compare my equipment to a Master woodsman LOL. You definitely help me keep myself calm while I was trying to talk
It is a Czech bread bag. There are tons of shapes and materials. I chose the gasmask bag style in canvas. I then waxed it with 100% bees wax. There is a video out there now if you are interested in seeing the process. Thanks for popping in and watching my friend.🤟
Thank you my friend. I hope to see you in the next one. Also I was watching your video on a hammock that simply didn't make the cut. Tha k you for showing us that product before all to many of new and old campers alike spent their hard earned dollars on it. P.s. I really dig your channel 🤙🤙
5:06 a tarp that is 5’x7’ is too small for me. My minimum is 8’ square. That being said I will do a small piece of tarp for utility uses: firewood carry, leaf drag, campfire canopy in bad weather, protect my pack while I deploy my actual tarp

Blackie is a walking book of outdoor usefulness. What I like about him he’s never pushing expensive useless gear.
Amen my friend everything he has is obtainable retainable and maintainable

Bar of soap with felt ! Awesome thank you for sharing
No problem I found that at an art museum and I have sense found them in all shapes size's and colors on Etsy.
I'm 8 months behind seeing this video. Thanks for the contrast of bag styles and items carried.

You fit 5 - $20 Bills in that whistle? What whistle is it? Can you do a short on that and how you squeeze them in?

@@offthecouch1999 that pouch 👝 seems to hold the oil canister and the extra ammunitions too tightly. In case of emergency ,that may cause problem.
