Looks like it is Beautiful in Ohio. We are heading to Michigan in about 6 weeks to stay with family. Live in Florida and Insurance has gone out of control. We just got our cancellation notice (8/31/24) and considering going without insurance. Just retired a year ago and probably going to get a part time job this Fall. Bidenomics is kiling us.

Hi Buzz! Nice garden. I do miss having a garden but not the weeds. When I was growing up, a neighbor got his weeds pulled by the neighborhood kids by telling them they could jump on his trampoline for X weeds. I love that you’re giving back. I plan to do the same once I get monetized…like 3 years from now. 😂 Your car insurance IS low. I always thought I got a great deal with USAA but it’s not as good as that.
So maybe I should get a trampoline and advertise jumps for weeds. That might work. Yes, I think I'll stick with this insurance for now. Still have to get a handle on the TV costs. Buzz

My retirement doesn’t start until January, but I am on vacation this week. Just catching up on landscape work. Slept in every day, then a short motorcycle ride before I started tinkering. I CAN’T WAIT! Good news is I still have 3 more weeks of vacation to take before fall.
I'm glad you found a good agent who explains your coverages to you. I always tell my clients, I want them to have a good understanding of their coverage when they sit down and have a good conversation with me. They don't need to remember everything, just have a good understanding. You definitely have thar good understanding and are in a good place with your insurance.

Weeds. Pull and pull and there are always more. I'm with you on not using sprays. I've got about 100lbs of Tordon pellets in the machine shed from back when you could buy those and Dad used them for weed control around the farm buildings. Not sure what to do with them. They're handy for spot soil sterilization and that's about it. For now they just sit on the shelf. Last day of work today!

Thanks for the education on how UA-cam works. I'm really surprised UA-cam takes a portion of the Thanks dollars. I guess that's why so my UA-camrs have Patreon pages. UA-cam should be happy with the portions of AD revenues they get. I can also see why some UA-camrs have their own websites for merchandise sales. I will keep all this in mind when I do my retirement channel.

Actually what I found over the years with my fishing channel is other than monetization the subscription count doesn’t matter much. I have 13k subscribers but average around 70k views a month. The algorithm will show your content to unsubscribe viewers who routinely watch your videos. I had to start an “avatar” channel in which I only watch retirement videos to see how my videos look and rank vs other channels, I watch a lot of golf and UA-cam help videos on this channel which show up on my feed along with retirement, subscribed or not😂. Great content have a great day!
Brother in Vero Beach replaced roof this week to metal - FL insurance is nuts on shingle roofs. As the oceans heat up, we will see much more hurricanes and tornadoes. Too many folks building/buying in flood zones. Really can’t blame insurance for high cost.
That reminds me of the Japanese tsunami some years back. The ancient ones put up markers that basically said don't have a home past this marker. Well, we all know what happened.

I cover the top of the garden with wood ships from the city's compost area. This is free. I don't weed. I had to shoot pictures of the roof to get insured. Mine is 15 years old. The deductible went to $1000.
I make my own wood chips with my chipper but I haven't taken down enough trees in the back. I also use shredded leaves. I'll weed this and add more oak leaves.
I downloaded the Merlin bird app and I was surprised of all the different types. Normally 8 to 9 different types per day. Who knew? Not me! I feed them a little bit twice a day. Buzz

We did two refinances over the years. The first was for an addition. The second was to reduce our interest rate. In March of 2023 we owed $24,000. I used a CD which wasn't paying much interest at the time and paid off the house. Financially maybe not super smart but I wanted to be debt free. End of discussion. Once that was done, my car followed and come end of September 2023 I pulled the trigger. My house is a small ranch built in 1963. Just to be clear I'm not on SSI which is different that regular SS. I think you meant regular but I wanted to point that out. Check out one of my monthly SS videos where I lay out my costs and you can compare to your area. Buzz
Please be careful when you get the GC from stores. I know we got “taken” one year when we bought Target GC. Grandkids went shopping and found out there wasn’t any $$ on the cards. We reported it on Facebook and our local news WTHR here in Indy helped us out with the scam. It’s not just Target but many other places like Walgreens
For me (2 years into retirement) every day is a good day.I do what I want when I want. Wife and I took my Harley Tri Glide on a 330 mile 9 hour ride yesterday. Just because we could.
For poison ivy I've found that what works best is Bonide poison ivy killer - I use a vinegar and dash of Dawn soap mix on everything else - works like a charm.
We were with Nationwide counting before my husband and I were married and he was with them, for almost 40 years and 10 years ago they raised our rates by double and we had not had an accident or even a ticket in 20+ years but they didn't care so GOOD For STATE FARM!
@@BuzzRetirementGarage Sounds like you and your wife have a great plan. We left Nationwide when they did that and shop around every couple of years to be sure to have the best rate. I know it depends on where you live too. If a lot of people drive without insurance in your area the rates are higher.

Keeping insurance costs under control is a challenge these days. It is nice that State Farm is rewarding your loyalty to them. My insurer Farmers actually sent me a $471 check last month. Quite unexpected.

I almost signed up for UA-cam TV last night. I was looking at my available apps on my Samsung TV and started watching Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeves. Maybe I'll start the trial tonight. I'm trying to figure out how to get my hands on the BYD Chinese electric car that they're selling in China for $12,000. Lol.

Was pulling weeds, this morning too. I have an entire hillside of English ivy with poison oak. Ugh!! Being former Costco employee, you can buy a Costco cash card for your subscribers. You don't have to be a member to use a cash card. I don't think there is a Sam's Club within 100 miles of San Francisco. 25 miles to the closest Walmart.
I meant that I would get a gift card for a store or restaurant not necessarily a Sam's card. The Amazon idea was proposed a couple times so I'll look into that too. Thanks!! Buzz
Most folks have access to Amazon or Walmart. That might be an idea for gift cards. Another idea is to donate the $25 to the local Animal Shelter. Great content. 😉
I have tried that same exact stuff that high concentrate vinegar with soap and salt and it works just okay it does not work that good. Unfortunately nothing that I know of works as good as Roundup. But I will no longer ever ever ever use Roundup in a vegetable garden!! Kerosene works if you want to put up with the smell for a couple days. But if you have well water I would not do that.
Hopefully this stuff will work. I did have good luck knocking out a large patch last year with cheap white vinegar (not the 30% version). But, it took two sprays to get it. Buzz

I've had it for many years and of course it's discontinued. They have a different model now which isn't compatible with the viewing screen that comes with it. I have another system from Sam's club that's ok but every few weeks you have to charge the battery since it's wireless. Like the comment below or above, maybe try a solar one from Amazon. There are soooo many different types. I really don't know what's best for security. For animals, the harbor freight ones are good but the need electric to work. Buzz
Poison Ivy is a tough weed to kill! I tried 30% acetic acid which worked OK for awhile but the ivy came back in a few weeks. My neighbor suggested food grade phosphoric acid, same stuff used to adjust pH when brewing beer (that is what he used it for). He poured the phosphoric acid on the root structures and the ivy died in 2 days and hasn’t returned in 3 summers. He told mee not to spray the phosphoric acid on leaves because the acid works best at the roots.. Be sure to use food grade phosphoric acid, its also same thing used in soda (like diet coke, pepsi) so its not super toxic to the environment but it will burn your skin so use rubber gloves and eye protection. Whatever you do NEVER burn poison ivy in fire, the ivy oil will travel inside the smoke/vapor and is VERY toxic to eyes and lungs.
I really think it is a wonderful idea that you are going to give back to the community, but my thought about the "gift card" is that the places that you mentioned (Sam's Club, COSCO, etc.) need memberships as well as the establishments may be really far from the people's residences. It may be better to think about something that is more readily available throughout the whole country. I certainly am not endorsing these establishments but maybe Walmart or Amazon, only because of the convenience factor.

Hi Buzz, Wonder if you could do a video on your meal plan as you are spending 1/3 of your income on food. Has does the grocery haul translate to meals and who does the cooking? We have been with State Farm many moons 55 years to be exact. They are kind and tactful but the rates still go up. They do give us a nice discount on. 2 homes in separate states. And all our cars are rated for leisure 30/ miles or less per week. Love your videos… stay clear of the poison ivy.😅
I'm pretty sure there is a way to do a gift card through email. That way you don't have to buy a physical card and you don't have to mail them. Perhaps it was Amazon gift cards?

On your time, no one else’s👍🏻. And yes!!! I use the vinegar mixture a lot!!!! But I use full strength ( regular) vinegar mixture. It works great!!
The full strength I saw and bought once was over $20 at Home Depot. The weaker version works especially when adding salt.

I had to shoot pictures of the roof to get insured. Mine is 15 years old. The deductible went to $1000.
I make my own wood chips with my chipper but I haven't taken down enough trees in the back. I also use shredded leaves. I'll weed this and add more oak leaves.
I put out a bird feeder have to fill it everyday, lots of birds.
I downloaded the Merlin bird app and I was surprised of all the different types. Normally 8 to 9 different types per day. Who knew? Not me! I feed them a little bit twice a day. Buzz

We did two refinances over the years. The first was for an addition. The second was to reduce our interest rate. In March of 2023 we owed $24,000. I used a CD which wasn't paying much interest at the time and paid off the house. Financially maybe not super smart but I wanted to be debt free. End of discussion. Once that was done, my car followed and come end of September 2023 I pulled the trigger. My house is a small ranch built in 1963. Just to be clear I'm not on SSI which is different that regular SS. I think you meant regular but I wanted to point that out. Check out one of my monthly SS videos where I lay out my costs and you can compare to your area. Buzz

Please be careful when you get the GC from stores. I know we got “taken” one year when we bought Target GC. Grandkids went shopping and found out there wasn’t any $$ on the cards. We reported it on Facebook and our local news WTHR here in Indy helped us out with the scam. It’s not just Target but many other places like Walgreens

For poison ivy I've found that what works best is Bonide poison ivy killer - I use a vinegar and dash of Dawn soap mix on everything else - works like a charm.

We were with Nationwide counting before my husband and I were married and he was with them, for almost 40 years and 10 years ago they raised our rates by double and we had not had an accident or even a ticket in 20+ years but they didn't care so GOOD For STATE FARM!
I don't know how they all decide who gets increases and who doesn't. Some people shop around, but I think overall I'm ok with them. Buzz
@@BuzzRetirementGarage Sounds like you and your wife have a great plan. We left Nationwide when they did that and shop around every couple of years to be sure to have the best rate. I know it depends on where you live too. If a lot of people drive without insurance in your area the rates are higher.

Lets be honest, the main reason for the tracking device from State Farm so that State Farm can sell the tracking data to third parties. They claim it for us to get discounts. In my mind that is not the main drive

Keeping insurance costs under control is a challenge these days. It is nice that State Farm is rewarding your loyalty to them. My insurer Farmers actually sent me a $471 check last month. Quite unexpected.

I almost signed up for UA-cam TV last night. I was looking at my available apps on my Samsung TV and started watching Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeves. Maybe I'll start the trial tonight. Since the kids left the nest and I would pick stuff up on the way home we sold the second car so we don't have to licence and insure it. I'm trying to figure out how to get my hands on the BYD Chinese electric car that they're selling in China for $12,000. Lol.

Being former Costco employee, you can buy a Costco cash card for your subscribers. You don't have to be a member to use a cash card.
I don't think there is a Sam's Club within 100 miles of San Francisco. 25 miles to the closest Walmart.

I have tried that same exact stuff that high concentrate vinegar with soap and salt and it works just okay it does not work that good. Unfortunately nothing that I know of works as good as Roundup. But I will no longer ever ever ever use Roundup in a vegetable garden!! Kerosene works if you want to put up with the smell for a couple days. But if you have well water I would not do that.
Hopefully this stuff will work. I did have good luck knocking out a large patch last year with cheap white vinegar (not the 30% version). But, it took two sprays to get it. Buzz

I’ve had really good luck with Amazon solar powered cameras. No subscriptions is the best part. They are around 80.00 dollars apiece.
I've had it for many years and of course it's discontinued. They have a different model now which isn't compatible with the viewing screen that comes with it. I have another system from Sam's club that's ok but every few weeks you have to charge the battery since it's wireless. Like the comment below or above, maybe try a solar one from Amazon. There are soooo many different types. I really don't know what's best for security. For animals, the harbor freight ones are good but the need electric to work. Buzz

Poison Ivy is a tough weed to kill! I tried 30% acetic acid which worked OK for awhile but the ivy came back in a few weeks. My neighbor suggested food grade phosphoric acid, same stuff used to adjust pH when brewing beer (that is what he used it for). He poured the phosphoric acid on the root structures and the ivy died in 2 days and hasn’t returned in 3 summers. He told mee not to spray the phosphoric acid on leaves because the acid works best at the roots.. Be sure to use food grade phosphoric acid, its also same thing used in soda (like diet coke, pepsi) so its not super toxic to the environment but it will burn your skin so use rubber gloves and eye protection. Whatever you do NEVER burn poison ivy in fire, the ivy oil will travel inside the smoke/vapor and is VERY toxic to eyes and lungs.

I really think it is a wonderful idea that you are going to give back to the community, but my thought about the "gift card" is that the places that you mentioned (Sam's Club, COSCO, etc.) need memberships as well as the establishments may be really far from the people's residences. It may be better to think about something that is more readily available throughout the whole country. I certainly am not endorsing these establishments but maybe Walmart or Amazon, only because of the convenience factor.
Let me clarify. The gift card would not be for Sam's or Costco. I would just purchase them there. Buzz

Hi Buzz, Wonder if you could do a video on your meal plan as you are spending 1/3 of your income on food. Has does the grocery haul translate to meals and who does the cooking? We have been with State Farm many moons 55 years to be exact. They are kind and tactful but the rates still go up. They do give us a nice discount on. 2 homes in separate states. And all our cars are rated for leisure 30/ miles or less per week. Love your videos… stay clear of the poison ivy.😅
