- Step into the shoes of Howard Lotor - anthropomorphic raccoon and private eye - and explore the beautifully rendered 2.5D pixel art environments of dystopian Vancouver.
Howard Lotor is smart, self-assured and set in his ways. Caught in the tedium of day-to-day life, he’s resigned to the abuses of the authoritative regime in power and compliant with the systemic inequality that permeates society. Most of the cases he works on are unremarkable domestic disputes. Odette Green’s case probably won’t be any different.
Backbone's gameplay is a new take on point-and-click adventure, featuring stealth, exploration and extensive branching dialogues inspired by classic CRPGs. As Howard, you must traverse the different districts of a now walled-off Vancouver, sniff out clues, collect evidence, interrogate witnesses, and choose which leads to follow.
Inspired by film noir, Backbone will submerge you into its dark dystopian atmosphere. Every animation in the game is handcrafted frame by frame, and environments are modeled after real streets of Vancouver, BC. The breathtaking combination of high resolution pixel art and 3D effects like dynamic lighting, pouring rain, volumetric fog and neon lights bring the sprawling city to life. Original doom jazz soundtrack will keep you on the edge with the enveloping veil of bebop and cinematic soundscapes, where every sound tells a story.

this is a must play. i gave it a chance despite not liking games of this type and i'm happy i did. one of the best games ive played

I always hated that old nickname. “Trash Panda,” they called me. They’d laugh that upbeat bigotry from the back corner of a shady bar. And most nights, the snide remark would land them with a fist full of claws to the face before they could finish that vile moniker.
But lately, I’ve been starting to think maybe they weren’t so off the mark. Maybe, it’s the whiskey and the pills that are barely keeping this old carcass moving. Or maybe I realized it that first time I felt some young fox going limp in my arms, after I was meant to be saving her hide.
Can’t quite figure when I truly knew that’s who I was but as I walk toward what may be my final meeting with fate herself, I know that the trash heap is likely where I’ll ultimately be found.
Was it all worth it?
All these beastly dealings, the vermin that I’ve had to shake down, the mask I now live behind?

Ahhhh I know the ending is not the best but It still attracts me when I ended this I was like what was that ending and i felt kinda empty this story shouldn't have the alien shit thing I think that ruined the game for me
BTW this game has the best soundtracks I ever heard Arooj Aftab and Danshin has killed it. I literally have listen to this game soundtrack on loop which I don't usually do

I would've liked it better if it stayed with the theme of noir, not what happened at the end of the game. And there better be a sequel because that ending was abrupt lol
YES, OH MY GOD. I hated how it went totally off the rails for the last half. Everything with the noir stuff and the whole meat trafficking plot was great, why did they have to go with a shitty alien symbiote that talks in riddles and fucking kills you? You just fall over and die. All you worked for was for nothing basically. When the game ended, I cried. Not because it was profound or something, but because I had just spent the last 3 days getting invested and working towards the ending, just for the game to give me a huge middle finger. Great start, but the most infuriatingly disappointing ending in any videogame I've played to date.
There's a prequel in the works and they have expressed interest in expanding the world of backbone.
The ending really was abrupt and the end 2 chapters in general felt a bit.. speedy, like some chapters of development were cut from the game.
Overall still one of the best games I've ever played and Howard is one of my favorite protagonists, but comparing from the Kickstarter trailer it really feels like some was left to be desired.

i completely agree! i really want to see how Wallace and Renee's relationship develop later into the story, and if you had the choice to touch the artifact, instead of just the standard ending, i really want to see different endings and what could've happened, and what happened after the "normal" ending of the game. Shame it ended like that and without any alternates. or Wallace gets cured somehow and we get to see what happens after or the "revolution" that would've happened with Renee.

I've been playing the game I think it is legit the original score to the game. It has some wild electronic-esque jazz and piano with synths.
First part of the trailer is "I Wonder", second part is "D.O.B." They're both found in the backbone soundtrack.
