A literate 10-year old: "Why were Adam & Eve ashamed of their nakedness?"
A literate teen at church communion: "This is the 'body' of Jesus? This is the 'blood' of Jesus? Well ok..."

I sometimes ask believers specifically why I need their god.
I tell them belief in their specific god isn't required to live a good life, to help others, to be charitable, to be a productive member of society, to be happy, to be kind, to be financially comfortable, to be grateful, to be physically well conditioned. I am all of these things of my own volition, I just cut out the middle man.

I was introduced to the Evolution Theory when I was around 12, growing up in a religious household, it was the first time I saw a different point of view other than Christianity. It took me only about 1 year or less for me to ditch religion. I was the only atheist in school, I didn't have any peers who shared the same view as me at such a young age. Growing up, when I was about 16, I had some emotional problems and it led me to become religious once again, as if I had never been an atheist. It didn't take long till I left religion, I realised I let my emotions take control of me and that was unacceptable to me. I've always valued reason above all. Since then I've been an atheist and willing to never fall for religion again. Religion is dangerous, because it traps you when you're emotionally vulnerable, when reason isn't what runs your brain anymore. I recommend every atheist to keep reading, to keep up studying, to never take a break from knowledge, because if you get away from reason, your emotions might take control of you when you least expect and bring you into the prison called religion.

My first memories are of my deep interest with the innumerable patterns in pebbles and rocks and I became a dedicated collector of any and all unique rocks and pebbles that were filled with intricate and colorful patterns. I began collecting books and videos about geology.
I also grew up in a very devout Southern Baptist family and was only allowed to have friends who were in the youth group in our church.
I was taught in Sunday School that our planet was only a few thousand years old. But I had simultaneously learned how rocks and pebbles formed and how much time it took for these rocks and pebbles to form their colorfully complex layers and the information that was being drilled into my head at Sunday School wasn’t in agreement with what we can see with our own eyes about the formation of rocks and the composition of rocks and the layers that these rocks were formed in.
So it goes without saying, once I reached the age of reason, I accepted the fact that religion was a human construct, no different from ancient mythologies and was written by people who did not have the information and the technology that we now have today.
So to me, the only difference between religion and mythology is that the believers of mythologies are all dead while the believers of religion are still alive.

I am a retired cop and a retired attorney. Like almost all attorneys in the USA, I have an undergraduate degree and a doctorate. I am a life long learner. I have been a heavy reader since I was ten. I watch educational videos and listen to lectures on a variety of academic subjects. I spend a lot of time thinking about all of these things.
I was driving to work one day when I was forty. I wasn’t really thinking about anything. I was just drifting along. While I was stopped at a red light, it suddenly occurred to me that I no longer believed in God. The only emotion I felt was relief.
I’ve tried to explain why I stopped believing a number of times. I had certainly had my face rubbed in the problem of evil for a long time. I won’t go into all of the details but I have PTSD as a result. I had encountered Christian ministers who were doing some decidedly unchristian and illegal things and who used their perceived positions of authority to try to avoid legal trouble. I had encountered religious figures from other religions under similar circumstances. I had encountered plenty of religious people who were hypocrites. I had seen the conflicts between different religions and within different sects of the same religion.
I had studied enough about the history of Christianity to understand the origin of the books in the Bible. I was familiar with the ways in which many of those books had changed despite the assertions by Christian’s ministers that the Bible was the literal, inerrant, and unchanging word of God. I had studied enough history and science to see where the Bible was wrong. And, there was clearly a lot of stuff in the Bible that conflicted with history and science. There were conflicts between stories about the same events.
I also had never seen any real evidence of God. All that I had seen, heard, and read from religious sources were explanations and proofs that ultimately failed to convince. There were always more rational, scientific explanations that better fit the observable facts.
I guess it just hit a critical mass that day while I was stopped at a red light. I have honestly never missed religion. I have much more intellectual freedom to learn and explore new things without have to compartmentalize things to avoid conflicting with my preexisting beliefs. I don’t have to worry about somehow offending God in the process.

Do you ask "how can it be if not for superstition"?
The mystery itself is the doorway to all understanding. When superstition closes the door, then truth and understanding can never be found.
We live in a natural world. Not a supernatural one. The existence of something is not evidence of anything other than its existence. The natural world existed long before man created the superstitions.
I do not follow gods as I have no need for them. I believe in those things that I am able to observe. I have knowledge of them. How can superstition be knowledge? Is it not a source of contention?

I am aware of the various nuances in regards to religion, with even those who wear the label associated with said religion rejecting what others consider to be core tenets to the religion, but one thing I heard often before mainstream internet on why people stay is "I was filled with fear, but with the religion it was removed", fear of death, and wanting to see loved ones.
And I heard this from pastors. Who would relay their stories to their congregations about why they are a Christian. The stories were almost always the same.
It was rarely because they were convinced by decades of religious scholarship, or were skeptical but convinced by a book or evangelist.
It really seems like those who accept being comfortable with being afraid, as ironic as that is, are those that are least likely to be religious, because they don't accept things as certain but that many things are out of our control.

I have a rather long religion story that idk if anyone cares or not, but if not, just don't read lol. Anyway... I had dated a guy a few years back for a few months and then things kinda fell apart. I ended up running into him again about 3 years after we had last spoken and he wasn't doing too great. I guess he had been in jail, homeless and had battled some drug problems. And as they always seem to do, he had found God in jail and was now pretty religious. I didn't realize just how religious he had become until after we hung out a few times. He was still having problems with a place to stay and was crashing at some old veteran guys place that had no running water. So I felt bad for him and invited him to come over for the weekend and bring any laundry he needed done. I also told him he was more than welcome to have a hot shower and I even fed him. Things were fine until religion came up and I told him that I completely respected his views, but I didn't share in them and I just couldn't make myself believe in any of it. He just looked at me with such a weird cold/sad look and said "Oh. You're one of those Science ones".... It was the strangest thing. This happened later in the evening and I could feel the shift in his whole attitude toward me. He just got really quiet and I told him that if it was going to be a problem to accept my feelings on it, then he was more than welcome to leave. He could just take his laundry and go and it was fine and I totally understood. It wasn't like he was obligated to stay or anything. After that he insisted it was ok, that he was just disappointed. Which I found laughable considering I was being more than generous to him and here he was looking down on me?? To put the icing on the cake, he ended up staying the night and do you know just how Christian he was? He initiated s3x and then literally could NOT leave fast enough that next morning lol! He also didn't text me again which was BEYOND fine with me 🤣🤣 Maybe this wasn't the best thing to share but I just wanted to get it off my chest. It really bothers me yet makes me feel relieved that I majorly dodged a bullet with him. I can't be with a fully grown homeless man who literally still believes in fairytales. But from my experience, Christians seem to be the most judgemental people when tbh I was being more "christian" than he was that night by trying to help him out. So yeah, apparently I'm one of those "science ones". I guess Atheist was just too dirty a word for his godly lips to say. Although he certainly wasn't too Godly in his actions the night before 😂

For a somewhat different perspective, I had an American Baptist minister, when I was in my early 20s, that was a good man, intelligent, thoughtful and a fantastic speaker, and his sermons were relatable & thoughtful. I distinctly remember one sermon where he said, “You may not agree with everything I say. So, listening to my sermons is like when you go shopping in a grocery store; you choose what you like, what serves you, and leave the rest on the shelf.“
I think we have to be careful here not to “throw the baby out with the bathwater”, as most of the major religions have some good ideas that are helpful for anyone in this life. For example: “Do unto others …” or the equivalent can be found in all the major religions.
The problem is when you claim yours is the one true religion and you believe your religious books are “infallible.”Unfortunately, the good is often mixed in with the bad, so you (especially younger people) don’t know which is true and which is not. I tend to choose what resonates with me. The problem with that is that I may just be choosing things that I agree with, want to hear or want to believe.
Our thoughts create our reality. Don’t believe me? Consider the “placebo effect.” We’ve all witnessed how our thoughts can often lead us astray (causing us to be positive or negative), and if we dwell on certain thoughts repeatedly that don’t serve us, they become our “reality.” Most religions don’t teach that , nor do they encourage critical thinking. Religions typically discourage doubt or questions, that’s a red flag right there.

Those who did not accept Him were doomed to a "Devil's Hell."

The threat is the withholding by oftentimes corrupt self-appointed clergy of everlasting bliss (heaven) unless you honor the clergy, attend services and tithe sufficiently.
And the fear is the promise of eternally burning hellfire annihilation.
Just throw in a little gaslighting: 1) The Supreme Being watches every damn thing you do ... 24/7/365 , and 2) the concept of original sin -- you are dependent on churches, mosques, synagogues and clergy to get your golden ticket to paradise punched.

I thought God's job sucks! Who would want to spend every second of every day of eternity counting all the sins and prayers of every human born in the past, present and future? I couldn't believe he could be so obsessed with judgement and punishment. Once I began alterations of the God I believed in, after a few years, He (it actually) eventually transformed into something other than a sentient being, i.e. not a god. Of course, there's more, but those thoughts aren't unique enough to need retelling.

We are in fact spiritual beings having a temporary human experience. We are born in a state of unity and Oneness with ourselves, our Mother, Nature, and G-d. Then the ego begins to develop around 2-3 years old. As we are forced into society around 5 years old when we are put in school, we quickly learn that our instincts, emotions, and feelings are not welcome in our spiritually dead society. We learn to repress our energies. In doing so, we create the unconscious mind and we simultaneously block ourselves off from the Divine spark located deep inside the heart. This is why most people don't know they are cosmic spiritual beings. The Core Self or Soul is frozen and dormant in most people. A lengthy and arduous process of Self Realization reunites the ego with its Source...with its own Soul Core. Everyone is evolving and is at a different level of consciousness. People at the lowest level of consciousness gravitate to religious myths to give them a sense of meaning. An atheist is a little bit more evolved in that they have reached the rational level of consciousness. A Self Realized person is much more highly evolved than everyone else. Yet Self Realization is not the end...but a new beginning.

I've noticed that a lot of Christians have a hard time seeing the world from a different perspective other than Christianity. I don't mean this in a mean way, it's just that often times when I speak to Christians their worldview is very much dictated by their religion. And so for me at a very young age, I was able to see the world from a perspective outside of Christianity whilst I was still a Christian. I was often told that people who follow other religions are lost, but I didn't see it that way. I think that my ability to see outside of the Christian perspective whilst still being a Christian is what eventually led to me becoming an atheist. The avoidance to understand a different perspective I think comes from the fear of being "led a stray".

Atheist is just a meaningless name given by the religious to those that hold their faith in reality.
Just because one does not subscribe to a Deity, prophets and doctrine, does not imply the person does not have a spiritual faith.

The name of the channel does not completely suit its content. To seek truth we need a postulation, introduction and reconcilation of theories. Criticism of theories is helpful in terms of avoiding falsehood but not in approaching truth. We do the "doubting game" when we want to dismiss a myth but in order to gain a truth we need the "believing game". The better name could be "dismissing myths".

A little over a year ago, my older brother (who did not believe in Jesus) was in the hospital dying from "multiple organ failure" due most likely to COVID. He was bed ridden, and the doctors had given up on him. My sister told me we were probably going to bury him. I went to the hospital, and I asked my brother if he was ready to die, and he said no. So I told him I knew someone who could save him, and asked him if he would like me to pray for him. He said yes. When I got done, my brother exclaimed "Man that was powerful," yet from my perspective, I didn't feel much.
Each morning, me and another brother of mine, would go see my older brother in the morning. Two days later, my brother got up out of the bed, and WENT TO THE BATHROOM all on his own--believe me that was a big deal. A man in blue fatigues came in, and he looked astonished and asked where my brother was. We explained he was in the bathroom. I asked him if he was the nurse, and he said no I am his doctor, and to this day I remember the expression of astonishment on his face. PRAISE JESUS
You know, my brother walked out of that hospital, and its funny, my brother is now a believer. I wonder why?

My sister got brain cancer at 40. Doctors could only remove about 75%. Hard-core christian. Multiple strokes, daily pain, and paralysis of several parts of her body. She's 50 now.
She prays. The remaining tumor increases. Then she has another operation. More pain, etc.
These type of natural processes occur exactly as you think they would with or without your god.

@@Mr.PeabodyTheSkeptic We are all fallen creatures, and we all suffer from physical pain and suffering. What makes God, God? He knows the beginning from the end, AND He is God. Can I ask, yes. Most of the time--from my lifetime--God has said no. But I still ask. AND FOR MY OLDER BROTHER ON HIS DEATH BED, AND NOT A BELIEVER, HE SAID YES. "You do not receive, because you do not ask." THIS IS NOT A BLANKET STATEMENT FOR ALL PEOPLE, just for some. For some it is a lack of Faith. But sometimes, it takes way more faith to suffer and still believe, and some suffer greatly in this world. When God says NO, He has His reasons, and He is not obligated to tell me why. I endeavor to obey Him, walk in faith, and ask in prayer. It is ultimately up to Him NOT ME. I am just a vessel, a conduit. That is all.

@@chamicels Well, one day I went out to find my dog. I found her under one of our sheds. I had no idea what was wrong with her. She is a big dog, and when I was putting her in the truck, my back went out, but I just managed to get her in. Took her to the Vet, and I asked if he could lift her from the truck, and told him about my back. He examined her, and she had a broke front leg, at the shoulder. Which means, they could not put her in a cast. The only two options
      1) amputate the leg
      3) or at least 1800 dollars AND up in shoulder surgery to pin the leg. Otherwise she would develop a PEG LEG.
My vet could not perform the operation. I had to take her to a city almost 2 hours away. TWO blocks from that vet, MY VET CALLED and said they could not do the operation--the vet surgeon had been up all night on another animal. I would have to take my dog to another city some other day.
      4) Drove home, and I knew that once I let the dog out of my car, I would not be able to put her back in because of my back, and I expected it to be at least a few weeks before I would be physically able.
      5) I prayed and told God, that I and done everything humanly possible that day for my dog, and if he would heal my dog, I would go and witness to MY VET about it.
      6) Over time, my dog's leg HEALED JUST FINE
      7) I kept my promise.
      SOME TIME LATER.
I was in a big hurry. My dog (same big dog) would lay under my truck when it was hot. I did not think about my dog, but I BACKED MY TRUCK RIGHT OVER HER.
I saw where the tire pinched her belly area, and it was filling up with blood. I was crying like a baby, and I knew she would shortly be dead. So, begged God in tears to heal my dog. THAT HEALING WAS INSTANT. To my knowledge she seemed to suffer no ill effects, and is still alive today.
SO MY GOD HEALS YES EVEN MY DOG.

@@jerrylanglois7892You become an atheist, you study physics, you realize there are certain universal laws that make the universe unique, you turn to quantum physics, you become an agnostic, you start looking for the truth outside organized religion, you thinking deeply about quantom fluctuations, you realize the infinite multiverse couldn’t have come from nothing via theory of relativity, you remain agnostic. Yeah that’s basically it, you don’t come closer to god if your an agnostic.
