I think the whole Ali losing to Frazier, Frazier to Foreman, and Foreman to Ali is a perfect example of "styles make fights".
Rock Paper & Scissors
No better example
Fraziers style was terrible against the excessive power of Foreman.
@@dudetrustme8320
Same results if Tyson fought George
Except that Ali’s first fight with Joe was a once in a lifetime fluke with Ali underestimating Joe (this happens a lot when you legitimately feel like NOBODY can whoop you) and Joe literally fought his absolute BEST fight that night. My theory anyway with the rest of the trilogy as evidence(plus Ali and a lot others thought he won but that knockdown had CRAZY effect worldwide lol). Let’s also not forget Ali was forced to throw 3yrs of his fighting prime away due to bullshit prior to their fight.
"I hated every minute of training, but i said, 'Don't quit', suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion." -- Muhammad Ali
And a woman abuser
He will remain a champion forever.
❤well said and well OBSERVED.
ALI ,is simply the BEST.
Common Ali W
Fun fact George Foreman in those 8 rounds against Ali landed more punches on Ali than Wilder did in all 3 Fury fights combined (30 rounds). Foreman 194 punches landed, Wilder 177. He landed more punches than Usyk did in either AJ fights as well. By the way this is not saying Ali is bad, this shows how amazing Ali was to not go down once. It also shows how much more they threw and the accuracy of these greats, Foreman was not even known for his stamina or punch rate at all back then.
A lot of that has to do with Foreman knowing how to jab and body punch really well. But Ali's endurance was insane, I can't think of many heavyweights that could take those body shots. And enough head shots landed to give Foreman a victory over pretty much any other heavyweight at the time. So the crazy thing is that Foreman's plan worked, he executed it well, and it would have gotten him a victory over pretty much anyone else. At the same time, Ali had way less room for error than he usually did. A few more head shots in the early rounds and I think he would have been down.
@@TheModernMartialArtist yep, that's a perfect analysis as always and as you say many people think of Foreman as just a really hard puncher, but he was much more than that.
Ali could have done his stick and move routine and George would have rarely landed
He says in his book he couldn't. George did too good a job cutting him off. According to Ali, he was literally unable to dance. I think most would have given up at that point if their entire style had been rendered useless over a few rounds!
@@youtoo2233 if he could why didn't he, that sounds like a much more sensible idea than getting punched 194 times by one of, if not the hardest punchers of all time. If it was easier for Ali to do a James Braddock style win, he would have espcially as Foreman had much worse stamina than Max Bear, making stick and move even more attractive proposition. But Ali didn't, because he couldn't against Foreman especially at this point in his career.
This is my Favorite Boxing Fight of All Time. The Hype, the buildup, the Fighters, the Showmanship, the stage, David and Goliath, and the unexpected and iconic outcome. It has all the hallmarks of the perfect legendary story. Truly a unique event that will never be repeated. R. I. P. Ali, Go On strong Big George.

@@damonshekhem8906 I Love Tyson but he was a child in comparison to Foreman in his prime in the intimidating game.
@@klaudioabazi4478 I’m in total agreement
Ali’s comeback arc is the greatest story in sports history. It peaked with his victory over Foreman. If his career had ended after that fight, it would’ve been truly storybook.
@@FatherofMan25 i fully agree bro. But Ali's pride got the better of him. Add to that an army of sycophants in his entourage convincing him that he was invincible, damaged his body more than it should have. Tragic, but still the Legend never dies.
"When he tried pawing to break his guard, he found out the ex-champion had no guard" is such a raw line
Yes : beautiful improvisation under the circumstances, showing yet again, HOW Ali NEVER stopped thinking as fighter .
"Very even fight."
"Ali, a sneaky right hand."
"Another sneaky right hand."
"This time he works shoulder-to-shoulder with Foreman... AND A COMBINATION! FOREMAN! IS DOWN!"
*Bob Sheridan and the audience explodes*
I love his commentary it's so epic
And he was the only one that saw what Ali was doing before the end of the fight
Just found out that Sheridan passed away on 27th of september 2023, he was 79 yrs. R.I.P
@@Treebot1 No Joe Frazier stated "he's using that old pro skilllmk on George and George's falling for it" I don't George is gonna make it".
❤HAHAHA agreed
19:12 one other thing to mention is how unbelievably accurate Ali is here, every single punch lands exactly where he wants even though foreman is stumbling forward and to the groud, Ali's reaction time is so great he does not throw that last punch as he knows Foreman is going to the ground.
I don't think every punch he threw here hit foreman but when it did miss foreman he just used the missed punch to set up another, it was a thing of graceful brutality
Ali really controlled this fight. His speed was too much for Foreman, and if it had gone to the scorecards Ali would have won as most of Foreman's punches missed or did little damage. By the third round Foreman was just swinging wildly, where Ali was methodically targeting (and hitting) Foreman.
@@elijahjamescomia2601 which punch missed of those 4? The clip shows every single one and foremans head being jolted by everyone.
@@Alex-cw3rz there was a hook (which wasn't shown in the clip) that he tried hitting with which didn't hit

To the world, it was a boxing match. But these two warriors were employing wrestling/judo and Muay Thai techniques. It was truly a Mixed Martial Arts fight at the heart of it. What an era.
Great point
Very true ali loved wrestling
Ali fue muy preciso, poderoso y una velocidad indescriptible.
😂😂😂
Huh? No, they were simply boxing.
Truth is very few knew the strength of Ali, much stronger than people realized which is why you see him manhandling George quite a bit
he wasn't that strong he was just incredibly accurate and good at breaking rhythm, so those laser-pointed punches would land when his opponents least expected it, which made them always devastating
if ali had been a natural powerhouse like foreman then he'd have at the very least one body in his record
@@misterwachulochulo5262 several Fighters that are on record talking about ali said he was very strong in the clinches and they couldn't break free, look how he would push Foreman head down and lean on his back, tied him up
@@youtoo2233 I didnt know that, damn, having strength and cat-like accuracy is such a deadly combo, no wonder he got as far as he did
Norton also stated that hitting Ali was like hitting cement
Ali also was just as tall as George, so he didn’t have the size advantage
My favorite comment on this fight came from George Foreman. Foreman said "Ali said 'Is that all you got George?' And I thought "Yup.'"
Then GF wept bitterly😅
The story leading up to this fight has to be the greatest in boxing
Both men are fascinating characters with crazy stories. Both heroes in their own ways!
@@TheModernMartialArtist The fight was originally scheduled for September 24th, but Foreman got cut in training. That extra month being in Africa helped Ali. He had time to win the country over.
You mean the accusations that someone was tampering with Foreman's food? LOL
I'll never know how Ali survived those body shots, you could see the power behind them
@@formosan2823 I remember Ruslan Provodnikov had a video showing that his piss turned black from all the body shots Tim Bradley landed on him. They didn't even look bothersome and Tim's not a hard puncher, but it did a ton of internal damage.
Ali probably pissed colors that were only perceptible to mantis shrimp.
@@drinfernoddsthat disgusting but hilarious, I learned about mantis shrimps crazy eyesight.
Ali had a great chin, and could
Take a punch and he let George punch himself out
@@andu1854 He was talking about body shots not punches to the chin.
I mean, he didn’t survive those shots… Ali died early of Parkinson’s and was a shell of his former self by the time he hit the age of 45. And every medical doctor on the face of the planet believes, but cannot prove, that he got that from boxing…
But he died a king.
Ali had one of the greatest chins in heavyweight history and he was impossible to hit in combination. To see Foreman hit him with combinations is incredible. But he took it. Archie Moore said years afterward that he saw Ali was an escape artist of the highest quality.
Foreman didn’t hit Ali in combinations ! Laughable …Foreman essentially landed no significant punches to Ali’s head …
Definitely one of his most underrated qualities, took punches from shavers
❤well said and well REASONED.
Funny fact. With longer arm reach, Ali was 6'3" 216 lb and Foreman was 6'3" 220 lb. But Ali was considered as the dancing butterfly and Foreman as "Big" 😉
Yeah the reason foreman looks bigger is because of how much bulk muscle mass he had compared to alis lean mucsle mass
Foreman is actually 6'4"
Ali was 6'2.5"
@@thespy7795 You are correct, although Ali may have been 6'2 and 3/4. I have stood next to both fighters, although not at the same time. Foreman's hands are huge.
Don't know their true dimensions, but it is obvious there was not much of a size difference. Same with Ali vs. Liston. Ali was a big heavyweight for his time.
@@sethteeter5225Ali had a more sullen physique he didn't look all muscle bound, George looked all Hulkish and slow. This is what the British announcer said about Ali "the Dancing Master with the Lightening Quick Hands" what people need to do is listen to the play by play announcers as their calling the fight instead of hooping and hollering in the background.
Hell yeah! This is the only video I ever wanted you to remaster, and you did it! Good job man.

@@TheModernMartialArtist what books?
Tell the clown to do Foreman vs Young … won’t ever see that happen
Ali's speed and accuracy was just on another level! It was on display again for all to see in this fight and even though he spoke to Foreman, took his best shots and talked more, the punches still did proper damage. Foreman looked tired by round 4, his face was starting to swell while Ali was landing more and more clean shots while forman was hitting body or air. He took Foreman to deep waters and drowned him🙈. I know Ali is the self proclaimed greatest but when he was focused on proving a point and did the necessary training, he was just about invincible. He stopped the monster who everyone thought would kill him. It has to count for something! One also has to considering that he wanted to fight anyone and everyone, sometimes multiple times if needed. Legend!
I feel privileged to have witnessed the great Muhammad Ali in his prime. No more to be said.
❤agreed 100%
Watch the last minute and a half of round five and you'll see Ali's greatness
George Foreman was 40-0 with 37ko nobody gave Ali a snowballs chance in gell, but Ali predicted what all he could and couldn't do, he was confident. He said George was slow, plodded around the ring like a mummy, telegraphed his punches, Ali dissected George like a surgeon.
@@aarondigby5054
Foreman was too overconfident and barely trained due to injury. He even prayed to not get Ali killed. Imagine how much could Foreman train with that attitude, He simply had no plan. He lost because he was exhausted fastly. He had Ali at the 7th round I guess but couldn't finish since he himself was tired.
Ali was the greatest, as Tyson said, he would do whatever it took to win. He had all the skills, was incredibly fast and had an amazing boxing brain, but it was his willpower that that took him to another level. Any other boxer would buckle in this fight, with the heavy punches Foreman threw, but Ali was willing to go the 15 rounds.
Yeah Ali was prepared to die in that ring! He paid a heavy price to acheive greatness in the second half of his career....Amazing comeback story. It was like David & Goliath!
None of the punches Foreman threw hurt Ali ..they didn’t land to the head
@@jayedwards4787 Getting hit to the body does more damage...Ali pissed blood for weeks after the Rumble in the jungle!
BTW Ali was rocked a few times by foremans power shots that got through Alis guard and landed flush on his chin!....But Ali had next level resilience, recovery & stamina!
These Foreman -worshipping clowns .Foreman was a headcase , channelling his hero, Sonny Liston, so-Big bad George was easily conned into punching himself out and then , exhausted, and with zero boxing skills , he was easily KOed…Foreman didn’t land anything of consequence the entire fight while Ali hit him with straight right leads . A little florid for my tastes, but it is entertaining to listen to. 😀
Ali is my idol as a revolutionary who put his time and money where his mouth was and denied the US the sadistic pleasure of killing him at war in Vietnam. God tier bravery and character.
The cool thing is that Ali would have spent his time touring army bases and other safe jobs like that. He refused to go on behalf of the people they were sending to the front line, taking a stand for them.
@@TheModernMartialArtistright on, thanks for that. I wasn't aware they wanted him for propaganda purposes.
When did Ali put his money where his mouth is? Can you name even a single time, ever?
I always see Ali fanboys say that (don’t get me wrong, I love Ali too, but not as a humanitarian. I love him as a boxer and a champion), but I’m yet to have anyone actually point me to an example of him actually doing that. George looks absolutely exhausted just a few rounds in after the rope a dope!
Whether that's conditioning, heat, or excessive force expelled trying to KO is hard to say; probably all factors.
Interesting to learn that it was a tactic Ali used in sparring to test his opponents. You definitely needs tons of experience to use a strategy this risky against one of the most powerful men of all time!

he was taking head shots throughout the fight. imho this hurt him cumulatively.
He was drugged. Ali had to win because if he lost there would have been a riot and massacre of epic proportions. This was in a murderous African country that hated George and loved Ali. Go see the movie When we were Kings and George Foreman autobiography By George. The ropes were not supposed to be as loose as they were by regulation.
ali had said even before the fight that foreman never had many rounds in the ring, same thing he said before liston
compare to ali, he always pull the match to judges decision or tell the ref to stop when his opp couldnt go on
and ali fought more frequent, he has more stamina, skill, and experiences

"Boy, you've picked the wrong moment of the fight to get tired!"
Ali fought a really smart fight against Foreman. He let Foreman tire himself out in every round, and Ali managed to steal 5 of the 7 rounds (as I scored it) in the last 30-45 seconds of those rounds. He'd come to life late and land more good punches in the last 30 seconds of the round than Foreman had for the first two and a half minutes. Ali's speed was too much for Foreman. Most of Foreman's punches either missed or did little damage. Just like Frazier and Norton gave Ali fits in their stylistic matchups, Ali was all wrong for Foreman. It was a great fight, but Ali owned it.

10/10 Work here, Mate!
I think it was Ali's size which almost matched Foreman but was 4 pounds less with similar heights and reach that made him in this fight. He could tie up Foreman unlike Norton or Frazier. That is what he did in desperate and non desperate times. Over time the guy with the bigger muscles had to pay for carrying that extra weight. Foreman lifts weights in training, usually a no-no especially in them days. I think Foreman was out on his feet in rounds 5,6,7, and 8.
It’s crazy how a younger Ali knocked out Archie Moore one of Foreman’s trainers and defeated Foreman with Moore in the corner watching

Tyson/Douglas was a bigger upset than Ali/Foreman

My favorite line from the other video about Rumble In The Jungle
Great video but slight correction: Ali was 32 in 1974 when he faced Foreman. He was born in January 1942.
They robbed Ali's potential prime between 67 - 69.
Ali would have been frighteningly good - great - during that period. If you look at his last few fights before the ban he was really becoming an absolute monster. So fast, but with enough power to put his opponents down on the canvas. The fact that he came back after so much time off and won the title back is amazing. The Ali that took the title from Foreman was great, but nowhere near as great as he would have been in 1968 and 1969. And if he didn't have that time off he would have been sharper in the early and mid 70's - think about that!

I remember this fight well. I was (and am) an Ali fan, but I could not ignore the power of foreman. Every punch, if connecting clean, could do severe damage. He was truly a beast in the ring, completely unafraid and fighting with gladiator abandon.
No one was more shocked than I when Ali got hit, again and again, yet somehow remained on his feet. It is a testament to his will and resolve, and a great chin as well.
After he weathered the 3rd and 4th round, I knew how it was going to go, and began to feel bad for George. He had been outfought, and outsmarted, and was going to pay the ultimate price for it.
Surely one of boxing’s greatest contests, by two of its icons…
Ali didn’t get hit… that’s how he made it …He was prepared for the body shots and nothing landed to the head . This wasnt a great contest and Foreman wasn’t even a good boxer, though he had great punching power.
That combo Ali dropped GF with in rd8 is a TOP10 moment in SPORTS history.
I would absolutely LOVE some videos on Foreman's techniques and how he fought. Everyone talks about second career foreman, but never first career when it comes to how he fights. I don't really care for cross guard foreman that much, but long guard foreman was INCREDIBLE! please talk about it!
He as almost totally unskilled - Foreman had a great jab and he was a tremendous puncher .He had no defense, no stamina and he had psychological issues
I remember watching this fight. Ali was my idol and he looked like he was losing and (to my childhood untrained eye) not even trying.
Little I knew Ali was experiencing early stages of Parkinson's, not being able to evade punches with the agility of early years, he invented the "rope a dope" to use the ropes like in 8:21 where if he had been standing and had to resist the impact, he could have been knocked out, but he just left his body go as back as possible in the slightly lose ropes, letting the ropes absorb part of the impact. Something similar in 8:39 and 11:48 Ali was making Foreman feel tired and instead of the attempts of devastating power Foreman was trying, Ali was slowly mining him down. By the time Ali knocked Foreman down, Foreman was too tired and lacked the stamina to stand up on time. Foreman had the strength to stand up and fight again, but it took him too long.
In the words of Ali himself, every champion wrote his page in the book of boxing, but Ali wrote complete chapters.

He was so depressed that took 15 years to recover
Ali, fear? I’d think this fight would show he had none. Foreman had demolished Frazier and Norton, looked like he’d do the same to Ali. And Ali shit talked Foreman before the fight, shit talked him during the fight, beat him mentally, then beat him physically.
My favorite comment from Foreman on this fight was that there was a point where he nailed Ali with a perfect right and Ali said “is that all you got George?”. Foreman said he thought “yeah actually” and got really discouraged 😆
It bugs me when people say George Foreman lost because he was tired. Ali was sniping him with stinging laser precise shots thruout the fight. Something like 15 straight right hand leads in the first alone.
Ali was a damaged fighter after this one!!
@@duranfreeman839this fight was inconsequential to Ali’s Health .
About time you redid this !!
love your videos, man. excellent stuff.
Love your videos. Learn so much!
I love your videos, you introduced me to the great Emanuel Augustus and I’ll forever thank you for that.
I was 10 years old and watched the fight live at night on a small black-and-white TV. The quality wasn't nearly as clear as it is here on YT or anywhere else. All I saw was Ali looking really bad, with his back against the ropes, and I was shocked. Then it suddenly happened, and Foreman went to the canvas. I watched that fight 100 times ever since then and this is the fight, I adore Ali for the most.
Thx for sharing your beautiful memories with this fight ❤
Thank you my friend. I was wondering why your older video covering this fight had less detail in comparison to many of your other breakdowns. Will be a fun watch.
It's been a while Bro. I miss your spot on narration as your video plays on. You have a great voice too. This Ali/Foreman fight is a masterpiece! Keep it up buddy.
Ali is a from a different cloth. To survive a monster but not only survive the monster but conquer the monster!
Thanks for giving it to us again..your reviews are fantastic!
Great video (as always)
I always shudder of that shot from behind of Big George hitting the heavy bag with that right hand shovel hook
i think ali said to forman during the staredown something along the llines of "chump u in school when i was beating sunny liston"
Interesting that Foreman trained under Sonny Liston who was defeated by Ali. Liston was a beast. Looking at footage just before their fight, most would put him crushing Ali. Gotta give it to Ali's incredible unique style tho. His near featherweight footwork and powerful jab really set him apart. There will never be another like him.
And that snake like jab, sneaky right hand and footwork the likes of the HW division had ever seen.
@@aarondigby5054 His footwork was so unique that Bruce Lee adopted it. (I read that in a book years ago,). Many people don’t know that. But when Bruce first came to America as a young man, martial arts wasn’t such a big thing. It was all about karate. His main art form Wing Chung, has limited footwork. Bruce, being the way that he was, changed things up and it all came from Ali’s footwork. Watch Bruce Lee in his films doing his own shuffle.
love these videos man never stop showing the youth who the boxing greats are!
Outstanding work! Keep it up!
So glad you did a proper vid on rumble in the jungle, besides the 6 min vid
Man i love your channel I hope you keep it up man can you continue to break down George Foreman fights?
Thank you..enjoyed it
Dude, I absolutely love your work.
I was waiting for that
Ali is still the greatest of all time.
Man, great job on this videos you're killing it.
Keep it up!
What is clear is that, you should not only hit with brute force but with intelligence...ALI is the greatest not only for its technical quality but for fantastic INTELLIGENCE
George had a problem with pacing himself. Ali out witted him.
You should do a video on Ken Nortons style my man, he started boxing at 23 and was self taught in the beginning, hence his awkward, jerky style
His cross arm guard was exceptionally effective as well, it nutralised Ali's jab and in part I think that is why Foreman during his later career developed a cross arm guard
@@Alex-cw3rz Yeah his style gave a ton of trouble to boxers, but it was pretty weak against punchers (You can't blame him though, his era had the toughest heavyweights in history), I would kill to see how he would do in the modern era.
@@BigBrainLynx well in the Ali vs Norton fight, Norton threw 635 punches and landed 286 punches which is an accuracy of 45% against someone with the defensive the calibre of Ali. There is no boxer today who lands even close to 286 punches in a fight and not one has a 45% accuracy. Usyk who lands more punches than any other heavyweight today, you can add up both AJ fights (24 rounds) together for usyk to land as many punches as Norton did in 15 rounds and Norton had double the accuracy of Usyk in either of those fights as well Usyk 21% hit rate against AJ who is not the best defensive boxer.
Great analysis of one of the greatest fights ever! Thanks for your insight!
AWESOME video, thank you!
I liked that Ali took on every top fighter during his career, so he did have some losses, but I still consider him one of the greatest (unlike Floyd,
Who was only concerned with a 0 in lost column, and avoided fighters until they were last prime)
Ali should've retired after this because he proved and proved again he's the GOAT of GOATS
Another great video, as always
The extremely high level of these 2 warriors is incredible, here it is clear that boxing has nothing to envy of wing chun
