I have a safety razor and don't miss using a razor with multiple blades or pivoting heads. Any razor should be used carefully, so when I shave I take my time to prevent cuts and to make sure I shave all areas fully. No matter the choice, the investment is worth it, both for the planet and your pocket in the long run.
Hey! Just wanted to note that it actually looks like our Regular Butterfly Razor, not the XL. Anyway, thank you for including us in this review. If you're up for it, we'd love to provide some further tips on how to best use our razors. We understand that they may seem intimidating, and that it is easier for most people who are already used to using plastic multi-blades to switch to Leaf's multi-blade, but with a small amount of coaching our customers have been able use safety razors with the utmost success. Ultimately you do use a safety razor differently than a multi-blade (apply no extra pressure and manually change the angle of the head to your skin versus applying pressure and making the head pivot). We kid you not, in some internal comparisons we have found that people who do successfully learn to use a safety razor the right way end up cutting themselves less than with multi-blades over the course of a year shaving. We are proud of the fact that we were the World's first zero waste shaving company, and when we started back in 2015 and set out with the goal of "eliminating plastic from shaving" we expected that many other companies would need to join us to actually arrest the prevalence of disposable razors-- as such, we welcome a transition to any type of plastic free razor, whether it's our version or another. We do love the experience of using a double edged razor though! :) Keep up the great work. -- Team Albatross
I think the reason for the change from traditional safety razors wasn't because of ease of use but because of the power of marketing which sold the idea that they were a better option and over time less and less people became aware of the.other options available. Would have been great to see the Twig included in this review aswell
Yes, it was definitely because of marketing as well! And plastic items were trendy and exciting when plastic items were first being produced. 😬🙈 But I do find a pivoting head of a razor pretty great! I’ll keep that in mind for next time! Thanks for the feedback 😊
Love my Leaf razor! I did cut myself when initially learning to use it, but once I eased up on the pressure, it was great! I really like that there are options for how many blades to use, and my legs haven't felt this smooth in a long while. As far as tarnishing, their website has some great info on which finishes are more likely to change over time.
Yay! So glad you’re liking your Leaf! I love that you can choose how many blades you want to use. It’s definitely been giving me the best shave as well! Thanks for watching!!
I've not seen a video like this and found it super interesting! Once my electric razors dies, I think I will personally go for the twig since it's kinda a combo!
I got the regular albatross safety razor, the one that isn't the butterfly. I had it until last week (which was about 4 years) and the threads wore out. Now the head of the razor is unable to attach to the stem. Also I found that I couldn't use it on my legs until it was duller. So I would have only my pits and pubes for awhile then start to use it for my legs otherwise I would get cuts all over my legs! It worked amazingly well on my armpits though and pretty good on the pubes. Just thought I would let everyone know my experience.
You should try the Henson. I think their head makes the shave angle basically built into the razor. I’d be curious to see what you think compared to a cheap safety razor and both of Leaf’s products.
Wait..the part I was most curious about was the difference in the closeness of the shaves, and you didn't actually say in that category which one had a closer shave! :*( Nuuu why you do dis to me? Lol..you just talked about the safety razor being harder to use.
$85 plus shipping is a ridiculous amount of money. We desperately need plastic free Alternatives like this and the fact that they're not making affordable for everybody is despicable. Leaf really cares more about profits and they do the environment. This razor should not cost more than $30 plus shipping
They do have a hefty price tag! I wish there were more affordable options like this so they're more accessible. There are much cheaper safety razors out there, but I know they aren't for everyone. I think their product just costs more to make. I don't think they're jacking up the price just because. But I do know this is out of a lot of people's budget, unfortunately.
@@StrollingThroughLife i'd guess they have the price tag because they still have a patent based monopoly. Their patent lasts 20 years till 2037. There are only so many iterations you could patent of this basic concept which is actually pretty derivative. Another manufacturer patetened a similar model with small changes where the spring is somwhere else but they also seem to go for hefty price tags oligopoly style. Not renting out a patent for a practical ecological solution seems a bit unecological imo even if they came up with it first.
The public: Companies need to pay employees a living wage, generous benefits, carbon offsets, and produce high quality products that are free of cheap plastic and are not produced in factories that may people too little. Also the Public: companies are despicable if they produce high quality products cost too much. The only possible explanation for the price must be corporate greed.
Would you choose the Leaf razor or a safety razor???
Safety razor because I refuse to spend $84 on a razor haha
i have the safety one!!

@@ambervarebrook75 Totally understand! The Leaf is definitely expensive!!
@@JamieOsman Awesome! It’s a great plastic-free option!

I love the Albatross razor for the ease of cleaning after using it.
It’s sooo easy to clean!!
I can’t wait to give my kid my safety razor when or if she chooses to shave. I’m going to upgrade to the leaf razor
Lol I love that plan for you!!
My husband and I love the leaf razor. Although, I’m thinking of getting the twig since it has a smaller head.
Yay!! That’s great to hear! The Twig is such a great option. I love it and definitely would recommend it!

You didn’t mention that you can use non leaf blades. According to leaf you can snap the regular blades in two.
I think I'd prefer the 3 blades and pivoting head Leaf
I have the safety and I’ve cut myself many times. Even going slow etc. Always cut the knees 😭😭
Oh no!! The Leaf is super similar to disposable ones I've used in the past. If you can afford it, it's a great option!
I hate those butterfly razors. I just bought the Leaf razor after hearing the positive reviews. I like the Leaf option of 3 blades.
I'm happy to hear you're enjoying Leaf!
@@StrollingThroughLife it's going to take time for me to get used to it. I'm not used to the pivotal head.
I bought the leaf 6 years ago and tonight it finally gave out 😭 so now idk what to get
Oh nooooo! You should reach out to Leaf! I thought they had a lifetime warranty.. but I would need to double check to be sure
How have I not found your channel until now? 🙃
Would you use any of them on your underarms ?
Yes, they both work for underarms! In my opinion, the Leaf is easier to use because of its pivoting head.
@@StrollingThroughLife Thank you !
i loveeeed this :)
Yay!! I’m glad! :)
Intro was nice thou
I like the black Leaf razor!
This is super helpful!!!
I'm sold on the Leaf
