    I make pasta sauce with tofu all the time! I use soft/silk or medium tofu, drained but not pressed. I add salt, pepper, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, nutritional yeast if I have it, whichever herbs I’m feeling, and a tiny dash of nutmeg. Then I blend it all up until smooth. If you heat it too aggressively, or let it sit too long it can spilt but it’s so creamy and delicious, even if it does.

Next time I would probably even double or triple the spices...or do half a block of tofu. Even after mixing extra herbs and seasonings in, this has little to no flavour.

    Looks good, but that's definitely not the easiest cream cheese recipe (especially for those who don't have a high-powered blender), haha! What I do is that I simply drain some unsweetened soy yogurt overnight in the fridge and then add some fresh herbs (dill and chives), salt, cracked black pepper, garlic powder and lemon juice - done! It's super delicious; you should try it sometime ;-)

    • @reganpuckett4937
      @reganpuckett4937 4 роки тому +4

      Ella L. Sorry if this sounds silly but what do you mean by drain the soy yogurt? I typically buy store bought soy yogurt, and don’t find that it has any excess liquid, so I’m a bit confused. The recipe sounds lovely and simple though, so I’d love to try it!

    • @romanelabiau8610

      @@reganpuckett4937 i think she put the yogurt in a towel on a «passoir» sorry i don't know the english word for that, so that the yogurt get thicker and you can spread it like a cream cheese

    • @Ella.L.
      @Ella.L. 4 роки тому +9

      @@reganpuckett4937 Doesn't sound silly at all; don't worry!
      You will need a lot of yogurt (at least 500 grams), because after it has been drained, there will only be approximately half of it left.
      In order to drain the yogurt, you'll need at least two big jars and for those 1-3 (depending on the strength; so it doesn't rip) paper coffee filters and 1 rubber band (to fix the filters) each.
      Now you just have to put the filters in the jar (the filters should not touch the bottom of the jar; there must be enough space - about 2-3 finger's width - for the water of the yogurt that will come out during the draining process), fix them with a rubber band and then fill them up with yogurt and put them in the fridge to let it drain overnight (you can also expand the draining process for up to 3 days - the longer you let it drain, the firmer the cream cheese will get in the end).
      After you're done draining the yogurt, carefully (because the filters are wet at that point) scoop out the "cheese", place it in a bowl and mix it with the other ingredients. And that's it!
      Hope that helps :-)

    I am a vegetarian, but maybe this is weird because I have never used miso and I hate the taste of nutritional yeast. Yes, dairy free cream cheese is expensive for such a small container I buy Daiya brand cream cheese because that’s the only brand at my supermarket.
    I have as wondering though if it’s soft tofu that’s used in this recipe?

    Maybe do 3 different types of vegan sloppy joe. Traditional, barbecue and something else maybe?

    Can I use other type of oils? (Avocado, olive?) Will it still solidify nicely?

      Coconut oil will become solid at, or just below room temperature giving the cheese more body. Other oils will not solidify.

    Is there another type of oil I can use to substitute for coconut oil? I'm sadly allergic. :>( Would canola oil work well?
