Sabayon is a Swedish metal band that sings mostly about history especially military history. I ran across this group because I am a history buff. I am not normally a metal band fan but they definitely got my attention. The video production quality is fantastic. Thank for your reaction and you have a blessed day
Welcome to the Sabaton rabbit hole! This was by far the best music video of 2021! Please do more Sabaton reactions! You will be entertained and given a history lesson with every song of them you watch! They even have their own history channel here on UA-cam: www.youtube.com/@SabatonHistory
They did get the history correct, Hannes the first over the top was in a German cap and the British and French didn't fire and went to meet them. I have just come across a Sabaton animated video about the Night Witches, a Russian Women only Air Force division. A tale of courage and ingenuity by women in war. An amazing story. ua-cam.com/video/5YPo8zDkvy4/v-deo.html
The voice singing during the ending credits is Floor Jansen from the finnish metal band Nightwish. You should give them a try as well, goosebumps guaranteed. "Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013)"
I concur as our good friend Eric Clark would say haha. m.ua-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/v-deo.html this is a link to the aforementioned suggestion Ghost love score
If I'm not mistaken, that's actually a period piece guitar. So while the sound is clearly electric, he's superimposed over the scene while playing because you can borrow that, but you sure can't take it out into the snow.
Wow, what a story. Never heard of it, and I'm glad they made a song about it. Or should I say a short movie? Unbelievable. Thanks for showing me this one!
As others have commented, the female soprano singing over the credits is Floor Jansen, the vocalist for Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish (and also the wife of Hannes Van Dahl, Sabaton’s drummer). Nightwish is an absolute must-react, but since you’re currently in Christmas music mode, may I suggest checking out one of Floor’s performances from Raskasta Joulua? (Finnish for ‘Heavy Christmas’, it’s an annual series of Christmas concerts featuring performers from heavier bands.) Two great videos are Floor doing O Holy Night ua-cam.com/video/6asFfKqE2vg/v-deo.html , or Floor and Nightwish’s former bassist Marko Hietala doing Ave Maria ua-cam.com/video/q1UJHpyFQn0/v-deo.html
They are from here, Sweden. The singer/frontman Joakim just sings theatrically. He has said he's using rolling r's etc to hide bad english accent. Similar to Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann
Sabaton are an incredible Swedish metal band. Primarily all their songs are about incredible things that have happened during wars and conflicts throughout the years. They try to be as accurate to the truth as possible, with only 1% or 2% being shaved here and there for their song making art. I am sure there will be other people in your chat that can give you a better synopsis than I can of the band in general, however if you would like a couple of songs to get started down the Sabaton rabbit hole with I suggest: Bismarck:- ua-cam.com/video/oVWEb-At8yc/v-deo.html No Bullets Fly:- ua-cam.com/video/dslO-3GgenY/v-deo.html (This version has story at the beginning and end of the video to explain what is being sung about, very emotional) 82nd all the way:- ua-cam.com/video/ZgfCUxFE7XA/v-deo.html The Red Baron:- ua-cam.com/video/1snEYPg8TXs/v-deo.html One thing that Sabaton DON'T do is laden there songs with prejudice, if a song is about a hero to his or her nation it is sung in such a way as give that person or group glory. As you just saw in the Christmas truce, they didn't make out that the allied troops did this... no both sides (the enemy) stood up and were counted. The same can be said in all of there songs.
as a history nerd i must mention it. In the video the side that came out was the german one (the side were the singer was). If you didnt notice the side that exited the trenches second in the video didnt only have the british uniform, but also the blue french one. But still, great reaction to an awesome music video!
18-year-olds were kids, just like today, who grew up in a day and volunteered. You don't see the savage until it's necessary. The 15-year-olds the Germans sent out at the end also found their courage. War is predominantly fought by kids, and you are I are close in age.
The fact that Sabaton takes their time to be as accurate as possible with these songs says a lot about them as a band and individuals. The fact that wanted this song to be perfect before they released it.
Thanks for letting the credits run through. Some reactors skip this while it is an integral part of the video which they put so much effort in. As mentioned it was Floor Jansen, the best and most versital female singer of our time, singing over it. She is the frontwoman of the Symphonic metal band Nightwish and married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of Sabaton who played the german soldier stunned by the grenade and the first one to climb out of the trench. Besides Nightwish Floor Jansen has been exploring a solo career now also. There are so many presents on her UA-cam channel she left there ready to unpack. Just take a look and be amazed. Floorgasms galore!
Sabaton even have a history channel here on UA-cam, there they give historical background and bit on how and why they made the song (most of their songs are about historical events and people) the history channel has roughly 100 videos so...
First one that exited (in the video) was German, Green/Gray uniform with red piping. Second one was British with dark khaki and cap. (then you had some Scots with red/white checkers and kilts, french with blue/red uniforms).
Great review! I became a new fan of Sabaton a few years ago being a veteran myself. They certainly found their niche when they came up with military history and writing songs about those historic battles. One of my favorite songs by them is "82nd All The Way". They have a lot of great songs. The ending of this song where you hear the woman's vocals during the closing credits are done by none-other than Floor Jansen of the band Nightwish, and her husband is the drummer in Sabaton.
Could you react to the live performance of En Livstid I Krig at Gothenburg? It’s listed on UA-cam as SABATON - En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg). It’s in Swedish, so be sure subtitles are on. It's a great song.
A friend of mine was a soldier in the Wehrmacht in WWII. He wasn't a Nazi, in fact he spent time in work camp for resistance to nazis, but in the end even he was drafted. He was stationed at a new place when suddenly in came several Americans with wine and guitar. Everyone was incredibly surprised, but it turned out that the former German troop had befriended the Americans when they were stationed there. No one wanted to fight the other, so instead they met up to trade pictures of family, play card and teach each other songs. Sad to say, my friends officer was one who went by the book and the Americans became prisoners of war. My friend survived the war, spent two year in US concentration camp and then became a pacifist, dedicating his free time to the peace movement where I met him. He's dead now. Still miss him.
I am clearly new here. This was a very good reaction video. Welcome to the Sabaton rabbit hole, or should I say foxhole? Like my fellow Sabaton fans here I put up a few suggestions to react to, and why: -No Bullets Fly ( The animated STORY version), because it's close to Christmas. -En livstid i krig (A lifetime in war, live from Gothenburg). This one is about the 30 years war back in 1618-1648. -Warrior Soul, because it is about the sabotage of the Vemork Power Plant ( Heavy water to make the atomic bomb) in my homeland Norway. Yes, I am egoistic. 😛 Btw, if you want Christmas Songs, you could react to Tommy Johansson (Guitar player in Sabaton). Looking at his releasings at UA-cam, I guess he's looking forward to Christmas.
Not usually my type of music, but this was more a production. It was done marvelously. It's heartening to know, that some of the younger generations still pay attention to history, instead of trying to erase it. I sometimes wonder where they think the "idea" for the bloody battle scenes, the person to person fighting scenes in movies came from. It's wasn't someone's imagination...it happened. It's happened far too many times to forget about the sacrifices humans made for their fellow man. They were human. The men involved in that truce probably all would have loved to just cease fire from that point on, and go home. Wouldn't that have been wonderful. In case I don't comment again before the 25th..Merry Christmas from Oklahoma. May it be blessed and peaceful.
Sabaton even have a history channel here on UA-cam, there they give historical background and bit on how and why they made the song (most of their songs are about historical events and people) the history channel has roughly 100 videos so...
So the Singer is Joakim and the band is Swedish as many here has pointed out, I would call the genre History Metal, all their songs are about either Batlles or events or historical figures and the Sabaton Army is large, the operatic voice in the end is Flour Gensen from Nightwish that is marired to the drummer in Sabaton, a few songs I recomend is Father, Bismark, and to hell and back
Great reaction. Sabaton released a new song from this era. It´s a cover from Motörhead called 1916. Those lyrics are tough. And it´s an amazing video. Dont know if you heard it. If not I would enjoy your reaction to that song.
the guy who was the first to go up in the video was from the german side and the one who was on the binoculars and went second was in british uniform though
@@lionfromthenorth4580 not only that, the Czech Republic is known to be a good place to shoot videos/shows/movies in with lots of talented crew, so they find a fun crew in-between projects and hired then for a few days. Doing it anywhere else that's accessible to them would have been very expensive too.
If you want an awesome live song with them you should react to en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) live scandinavium Gothenburg. I was at that show and you won't regret it. it is the Swedish version of the song (that album is about Swedish history during the era of great power or as it is called here, stormaktstiden) it is the Swedish version of the song (they made both an English and Swedish version of the album, the Swedish tells the story from a Swedish soldiers view while the English is more of an outsiders view) so make sure the subtitles are on.
Wonderful reaction. 👍If you want to hear other Sabaton songs that have a similar, real content to "Christmas Truce", I recommend "Hearts of Iron", "No Bullets Fly" and "Ballad of Bull". Best regards from Germany ❤
I found this band somewhat recently by way of Nightwish, who others also mentioned. En Visted I Krig in Gothenburg in Swedish is also a great look from Sabaton, and recommend Nightwish as others have said also, which usually also leads to Epica and Ayreon....
The way they framed it -- that the first over the wall was concussed -- lent some credence I thought. The second to rise up was the bravest if that were true, IMO. ••• Thanks!
Welcome down the rabbit hole of discovering Sabaton! Sabaton is a Swedish band that write songs based on true historical war events. They also have a second channel, Sabaton history, where they tell the story and history behind the songs. Highly recommend it! I would also recommend you to watch all their videos to the very end. I've seen other reactors that have stopped the videos too early, and have most of the times missed something. Would be a shame if you did. Also, might just be me personally, but I would definitely not pause the video more than once, maybe twice. As a viewer I can say it's, to be honest, quite annoying when the video is constantly stopped/paused! So, have that in mind if I may ask. I can recommend a few songs to get you started: Night witches (animated story), Swedish pagans, Carolus Rex, No bullets fly (animated story video), and Bismarck. The Sabaton army will definitely help with more suggestions. Welcome to the Sabaton family!
I really like your reaction videos, especially to Eminem and this one. As macabre as it maybe what did it for me in this one was your expression when you realized the implications of the bombing sounds in the distance after the guitar in the middle. Really hope to see you do a reaction to the music video of Uprising by Sabaton. It's about the resistance of the people of Warsaw during WW2. Completely left alone by the allied forces the people of Warsaw fought for their homes and lives by themselves. I also highly recommend Sabaton's history channel, where they go more into detail about the history behind their songs.
I see it as a story of love , humbleness, compassion, and moving demonstration of the ability to love one another. Oh heck, what am I saying.... ummmmmm.... I guess you'd have to be in my shoes to understand what I'm trying to say. I just watched 9 hours of a history channel series starting with the nativity season 1 episode 1.... it's been 9 hours of crying for me so... maybe I'm hormonal or just ultra sensitive... or both....
Great reaction! Not Christmas but another international rock band. Have you tried Mongolian rock? The Hu are absolutely amazing . "men of war" as you said, kind of describes The Hu, since they sing a lot about Gengis Khan!
Like you yourself said at the end, it takes real courage to not fight. Its not the capability to fight that makes our youth great - its capability to not go to war and find peace instead. And i think they have that. Ofcourse there are times, like we see right now on Ukraine, when fighting cant be avoited and we all wish real peace for them.
He did NOT frown upon the Christmas truce. Read the right translation of Mein Kampf. He was not an evil villain. Merry Christmas to you! Thank you for these videos I really enjoy them
Pretty stupid to say the youth couldn't do what the ww1 and ww2 generation could do, young men have always risen to the needs of the time, im sure the civil war generation thought the same as you about the ww1 generation.
Hey Larry, love the reactions! One I would like to see you react to is a French song by a Belgian singer. The song is "Papaoutai" by Stromae. Another is "Tous les memes". Both very different, and I would recommend looking into the songs before watching as context helps understanding.
Sadly, most of our youth would not be capable of up close battles but they say the youth are superior fighting behind a screen such as a drone or gunner on a plane due to the technology of video games.
Indeed! Nice brain fart on my part. You might notice the text pop up when I mentioned WW2 correcting to to WW1. Nice catch! Have a great one and thanks!
Hi Cutie I always loved the story about the christmas truth. Nice reaction. You know I love all your reactions but I cant wait for you to do more Pentatonix. They have evolved even more with their voices. Take care my friend 💛
Unrelated but have been binge watching a lot of your videos and would love to see you react to difficult by eminem. It was an unreleased song he made that pretty much just shows the place he was in after his best friend Proof died.
Yep! Love those brain farts. You'll notice the pop up on the left side of the screen when I mentioned WW2. When I scrubbed the video before posting, I was mortified that I misspoke on something so important. Thanks!

11:36 it's intresting that you don't know how to recognize a german from a british uniform. even without knowing of the differencies, you can celarly see french soldiers representated on the receving side of the truce offer and therefore using logic you could deduce which side are the Central powers and wich side are the Alied powers. What is really interesting is that in your mind the truce only involves Britich and Germans and you are not the first american i hear saying that.
Hey Chris, long time no see! First of all, I have to apologize in advance for this long post. I've wanted to say this for months really, because I L:OVE your reactions but I was looking for the right opportunity. I haven't found it, so I'm making it. Please bring back Pentatonix. I know. At least I think I know. You're hesitant. The "Evil Copyright Gods" have done a number on you. I could hear it in your voice every time you told us that a video was blocked and you couldn't fix it. That would indeed put a damper on things. However, please keep in mind that we don't come here to watch the video. We come here to see YOU. So if you have to blur the video to 90% in order to get past the riff-raff, then please do it! We won't mind! I've watched ALL of your Pentatonix reactions and I want more. You know so much more about music than I do and your analysis and insights are amazing. So please... don't let the "Evil Copyright Gods" win. Heck, you could start off with songs that don't have a video. We just want to hear your take and see you get Mitch-Slapped again. Ok, here are my suggestions: 12 Days of Christmas Blinding Lights Sing (an original) I just looked at your library of Pentatonix songs and see that you updated the playlist _yesterday_ and one video is currently unavailable. Could it be true? Is this project already in the works? I hope you have a Merry Christmas.
P.S. I just re-watched your reaction to "Little Drummer Boy" again and wow. Maybe you should do DOUBLE reactions for PTX because there's just TOO much going on for you to comment on for one take! But seriously, I'd just be happy with a blurred video and your reaction. Your reactions make me happy.
Hi Chris, been a while since I commented. Still followed along. I really enjoyed this. I knew the story of this and this is a powerful song. Reminds me a little bit of Disturbed. Can I make an unusual suggestion. Try Riu Chiu by The Monkees. It's an old Spanish Christmas song and the only a capella song they did. ua-cam.com/video/riG85oA6Wy4/v-deo.html

-No Bullets Fly ( The animated STORY version), because it's close to Christmas.

Thank you for the backstory... I never heard that story
Can you imagine???
I see it as a story of love , humbleness, compassion, and moving demonstration of the ability to love one another. Oh heck, what am I saying.... ummmmmm.... I guess you'd have to be in my shoes to understand what I'm trying to say. I just watched 9 hours of a history channel series starting with the nativity season 1 episode 1.... it's been 9 hours of crying for me so... maybe I'm hormonal or just ultra sensitive... or both....

It was WW one not WW two when this took place
The truce was in WW1
Indeed. You might have noticed the pop up when I mentioned WW1. WW2 popped out when I was thinking WW1 lol
Great reaction! Not Christmas but another international rock band. Have you tried Mongolian rock? The Hu are absolutely amazing . "men of war" as you said, kind of describes The Hu, since they sing a lot about Gengis Khan!
You are wrong there..they
are showing german (Hannes ) who first went out.
Down the Sabaton and history rabbit hole! Welcome to our insanity...
So very well said.
Yes. Stromae is fantastic an there is a meaning behind both songs and videos.
Please do more sabaton, soldier of heaven(its about white friday) is good or bismark
Attack of the dead men has one of the best bits of history, though I think the best story behind a song would be no bullets fly.
Sadly, most of our youth would not be capable of up close battles but they say the youth are superior fighting behind a screen such as a drone or gunner on a plane due to the technology of video games.
Its from 1914 so it is WW1 not WW2
Indeed! Nice brain fart on my part. You might notice the text pop up when I mentioned WW2 correcting to to WW1. Nice catch! Have a great one and thanks!
Its so cool this Christmas theme month!!
Thanks! Hope you enjoy!
Hi Cutie
I always loved the story about the christmas truth. Nice reaction.
You know I love all your reactions but I cant wait for you to do more Pentatonix. They have evolved even more with their voices.
Take care my friend 💛
Thanks so much! Next PTX is on the 10th! Take care!

Fyi, Sabaton welcomes reaction videos.no strikes involved ;)
Unrelated but have been binge watching a lot of your videos and would love to see you react to difficult by eminem. It was an unreleased song he made that pretty much just shows the place he was in after his best friend Proof died.
WW 1 not 2
Yep! Love those brain farts. You'll notice the pop up on the left side of the screen when I mentioned WW2. When I scrubbed the video before posting, I was mortified that I misspoke on something so important. Thanks!
I didn't know about this song either

WW 1, not WW 2…
11:36 it's intresting that you don't know how to recognize a german from a british uniform.
even without knowing of the differencies, you can celarly see french soldiers representated on the receving side of the truce offer and therefore using logic you could deduce which side are the Central powers and wich side are the Alied powers.
What is really interesting is that in your mind the truce only involves Britich and Germans and you are not the first american i hear saying that.
Ww1
they are swedish
71K today! Woo-hoo 🤗

Indeed!

oiii m8 thiss was 1914 not ww2
Correct. The correction pops up on the top left of the screen when I mentioned WW2. Basic mental slip up. Thanks!
Ok, here are my suggestions:
12 Days of Christmas
Blinding Lights
Sing (an original)
I just looked at your library of Pentatonix songs and see that you updated the playlist _yesterday_ and one video is currently unavailable.
Thanks so much! YES, PTX will definitely be included. Especially for Christmas. There is one in the can ready to drop on the 10th. More to come!
Do dear Ava by Clayton Jennings’s
It was world war 1 not 2.it was 1914
Not WW2 its WW1!
Wrong war…. WWI
Yep! There is a pop up that corrects it when I mentioned it. Typical brain-fart. I was thinking WW1 and WW2 came out. Nice catch!
Sweden Rock band
Its WW1
Hi Chris, been a while since I commented. Still followed along. I really enjoyed this. I knew the story of this and this is a powerful song. Reminds me a little bit of Disturbed.
Can I make an unusual suggestion. Try Riu Chiu by The Monkees. It's an old Spanish Christmas song and the only a capella song they did.
ua-cam.com/video/riG85oA6Wy4/v-deo.html
Yes! I remember this one! Good suggestion, but since I know this one, I can't add it to the reaction line up. Good one, though!
I really like your reaction videos! ♥️
Can you please react to Whats Life? By AK (iamtherealak) on YT 😀
It was in world war one not two
world war one not two!!
Yes, if you watch the video when I had mentioned WW2, there is a text pop up that corrected what I had mentioned. Good catch!
