  • A perfect solution to removing the air/smog pump on a 1984 crossfire injection engine with the power steering reservoir under in the alternator bracket. It leaves all your factory parts in place. Watch the video to the end to see a complete list of the parts used.

Awesome! They say the 84 is the best year C4 for for autocross because the spring rate was so much stiffer then the other years especially if you have the Z51 option.

Excellent info and I will be doing this to my 84... With no smog pump, will it trip a check engine code?

It did not on mine but I left my smog pump solinoids hooked up

Are you planning on capping off the air lines that run into the exhaust manifold, etc.?

No, I'm going to leave it all on the car because I want to put a pump back on it at some point just to keep it all stock. Nothing leaks or makes noise because the one way check valves at the ends of the exhaust manifolds work properly and wont let anything exit the exhaust.

@@84c4corvetteguy5 Nice! I replaced my power steering pump a month ago and when I put it all back together - the smog pump was squealing. I thought for sure I had to replace/delete it - but I adjusted the belt tension a bit by moving the alternator slightly and the noise stopped. If I need to delete the pump - this is what I will do. THANKS!

Is the new belt you used the same as the original belt for the vette? Thanks!

Other for than legal reasons can operate car without smog pump?

    • @84c4corvetteguy5

Yes, If your not in CA or other restrictive states you can run without a pump it makes no difference to the engine. The pump just lowers the emission levels by pumping air into the exhaust stream, it helps the catalytic converter lower HC's and NOx. A lot of people put headers and remove all the smog parts to lower the weight and to make a little more power although the smog pump itself does'nt take much horsepower to turn, a set of headers and the right camshaft can make more power.

This is a great video, but it would be helpful to provide a part number or weblink. Do you have a part number? I see that you mentioned "Advanced Auto" below, but more info is needed. Thank you.

Finished the conversion it worked great. The belt part number you supplied was a little short. I got it on with some elbow grease. Also converted the crossfire to single tbi. The vette is insane fast now.
