Jenny, the "sea" is just the Tejo river. The real sea is about 10 miles away at Carcavelos. The Torre de Belém was far from the river bank (by then it was a few meters away from the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos) and together with another fortress at the south bank of the Tejo river guarded the entrance of Lisboa's port and city itself.

Very cool. Lisbon seems like a city often overlooked, kinda flying under the radar. From this perspective at least. Regarding tourists...I was kinda concerned Jenny was painting them with that broad brush, reinforcing the negative stereotype that they're too often associated with. I'm glad she elaborated at the end. Tourism can be a vital boost to a place's economy. They're travelers as well, like you guys. Wanting to experience a destination and take it in. However yes, many are irresponsible and spoil the party for the rest of us. Thanks for making the distinction. I love your enthusiasm and spunk guys. Wonderful vlog.
First time I'm watching your videos. Great to see you here in Lisbon and loving your vibe. Hope you had a great time and always feel welcome back! Anytime you're back in Lisbon, if you're into a guided photo tour get in touch and I'll show you around. :)
Great video in a Great City! Just a small comment the "ocean" is the Tagus, I know it's its estuary and so large that it looks like the ocean but it's the river Tagus. 😂
Made in the 11 century, in Alfama there's another from the 12th, and the Sultan, the mourish king enter in the well in the castle and only reapeared in (praia das maçãs) 😋 there's a way underground connecting the 2 places, this happened when King Henry took Lisbon 😊
OK, that is the Tagus RIVER not the ocean! Another thing, you are in one of the most touristy areas in Lisboa so what do you expect?!? You have reason not to eat at Time Out...Tourist trap!! It does get extremely hot in the summer and even more touristy!
That tuk tuk was so fun. Let Jenny pronounce 'herb' any way she wants! We get what you are saying about tourism. The tower was very unique. Jacob is the water fountain king!

Oh guys. I live close to the places you first filmed... Its the worst part of town xD a lot of hobbos and durg addicts (still safe to live and walk around, don't take me wrong... But really really ugly xD). As for the castle, in Portuguese, J is read like "Gee", like in English. So George is really closer to it then the Spanish "wrohrwreh" xD Other thing, try cod "com natas/with cream" and "à Brás". Those are the best. Also recommend "steak on the stone" and octupos "à lagareiro". And try the pasteis de nata / custard tarts! Anyway, I'm very pleased to see you enjoying the city. If you need more tips, feel free to ask!=D
Ahhh that is all great to know. We tried the pasteis de nata and they were so delicious!! We will have to try steak on a stone! Thank you very much for your comment!
Embassy of France, not Italy. "Palácio de Santos" or Saints Palace. Has been a monastery, a royal residence, a noble house, institute and now an embassy. Fun fact, our king Sebastian, had his last meal there before departing to a holy war against Morocco, where he was captured/died, leading to a succession crisis that led the portuguese throne to be occupied by the spanish monarchs for 3 generations.
Such a shame that excessive tourism seems to have finally corrupted the landscape of what was, just a decade or so ago, one of the few remaining authentic European capitals left to explore for travelers seeking a genuine local experience. 😒
It really is such a bummer, Lisbon is such a gorgeous place and we loved it! Just wish there was not sooo many tourists there. We are gonna try to go off the beaten path a little bit more :)

What did you mean by "It turns out it's actually Ror-Reh's Castle"? (1:53). The name "Jorge" in Portuguese is not pronounced in the way you did it in the video -- that's the Spanish pronunciation of it! "Jorge", in Portuguese, is pronounced similarly to "George" in English; and it is really the same name! You guys need to snap out of the false notion that has had you convinced that Portugal is in Spain and that the two languages are practically the same. Good video all the same -- I totally get your enthusiasm, and wanting to learn about other cultures. Good on you.
While I enjoy the energy and excitement in your videos, I feel like it's contradictory to point out the touristy nature of some things and claim to want to immerse yourself in the culture when you make assumptions about a place based on anecdotal information and don't actually do research before experiencing a culture. Assuming that the wine shop you passed is mostly ports is ignoring the dozens and dozens of unique varietals across the multiple growing regions in Portugal. Port isn't even from Lisbon. And the amount of Asian food might be because Portugal colonized places in Asia like Macau and Taiwan.
Portugal is so gorgeous with stunning architectures, colourful buildings, beautiful language, and positive vibes ♥️🥰🤗
It is a gorgeous place!! 😍 Hope you're doing well friend!

I was wondering if you would go to the Tower of Belem! So pretty! I went there for a long weekend when I studied abroad in Spain.
That fountain reminds me of the fountain in Barcelona! If you drink from it they say you will return.
