    The name of the German Lady who practiced the breathing techniques is Katharina Schroth. Wikipedia article only in German and quite critical of the method. On the other hand, Katharina Schroth received the highest decoration of the German State for her work. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katharina_Schroth

    I'm listening to your book. It's absolutely fantastic. I've got cartilage degeneration in my right hip. I'm trained to an extent in breathing, but not in what you're sharing. I've been listening for a week and really focusing on the nose, closing my mouth and slowing down. Yesterday and today, I've had no pain in my hip and leg for the first time in over a year. My singing range also seems to have extended. I would love to interview you on my podcast if there'd be any possibility you'd come on. Thanks for doing all this research.

    I’m fascinated by this, have got James’s book and love it.
    But how do you “breath into one lung”?

      Yes, good question!

      He said she twisted. Probably like compressing one lung so it can't expand.

    @James Nestor, is there more detailed info about what she did? I have your book, I have the Buteyko course. I am doing things like singing to get rid of my sleep apnea. I am versed in hypnosis, eft and nlp to various degrees and I would love to use some of her ideas for my issues. See what I can or can't apply.

      There's a book (which I've purchased but not yet read) about the Schroth method, called
      Three dimensional treatment for scoliosis, by Christa Lehnert-Schroth (daughter of Katharina)

    In the audiobook there was a chapter on Stow or Stau? Who worked with singers at the metropolitan opera and also David Sanborn. I can’t find the one video that you mentioned from a workshop in Aspen. Can you share the link?

    Did not she train anybody to continue her work? I have mild scoliosis and it sucks, can't imagine having it worse than I do, just terrible. Its funny too I am constantly trying to pull myself apart from the adhesions and the crookedness with door frames, poles, anything I can't use to leverage. But, without breathing I'm missing half the solution and I wish I could just go to a clinic to establish a proper theraputic rotine like that!

      I am treating my scoliosis with deep diaphragmatic breathing, I do it for 30 minutes twice a day. My last MRI revealed a 7 degree improvement from a 35 degree curvature to a 28. I started doing this for something else and I noticed that it was affecting my posture so then I ran in to this book by James Nestor and it confirmed what I was experiencing. I am not a doctor and I can only suggest you try it. I do not recommend inhaling and exhaling fast take your time with it especially when exhaling.

      Are you tongue tied?

    • @hehunches
      @hehunches 2 роки тому

      @@blakeavila4409 usually that is a sarcastic question I have to answer no to; however an oral surgeon recently asked it this way, "anyone ever tell you you have tongue ties?" so I guess

      @@hehunches Ya I’m tongue tied too. It means your frenulum (the anchor of skin underneath your tongue) is too short so you can’t reach the roof of your mouth to swallow or breathe properly. Affects the shape of your pallet and possibly your neck posture. I’m still researching.

    • @hehunches
      @hehunches 2 роки тому

      @@blakeavila4409 @blake avila yes I was flagged as nearly having Marfan Syndrome but not quite severe enough for diagnosis. Very high pallet, and other issues for example my wisdom tooth roots had grown up into my nasal cavity so when they pulled the tooth, I was bleeding from my nose... Fistula left where the root was. I would be able to blow air through it but it healed and closed up later.
      The toungue tie surgeon who mentioned it to me suggested that it could have something to do with the extreme tension and tightness in my neck and spine, do you have muscle problems like I do? crazy tightness, my massage therapists are at a loss, even when I use a lacrossse ball I can't get them to release at all. They restrict my range of motion and they have lumps of scar material turned into rock hard spots. My acupuncturist said most people have soft muscles, your's are like stones. She has trouble getting the needles in and then my body just spits them out.
      Best to you and your research, I hope you find out what you need. I'm learning that I was born with birth defects and that explains alot.

    Personally I think it's completely irresponsible to make claims that this woman cured her scoliosis with a breathing technique so you can sell your book. It's more likely that she helped reduce her scoliosis through the stretching/body positioning she did. I'd love to see an actual scientific study that shows it is possible to breathe into only one lung when a person has 2 functioning lungs. I'll need to see that study before I go anywhere near buying your book.

      I have seen a 7 degree improvement so far in my case but I just practice deep diaphragmatic breathing not the Schroth method. Consistency and a lot of discipline is needed.

      Long shot that you can benefit from this info but I heard briefly that former ufc champion Khabib's father trained his son's rib cage to expand a couple inches every few years to improve his athletic capacity. The guy spoke russian though so its hard to investigate further.
