Loved this thank you!
Thankyou ,im going to do this now with some I've pick whilst out walking.
Thank you so much, it was very clear to me, I will try it these coming days !
I'm propagating canariensis... Thank you for the video
Thanks! It worked here!
I have a ton of Hedera in my yard, started from two small vines. I’m planning on taking a lot of cutting this spring to bring to our new house, my shop, and maybe have some to sell at the farmers market. Thank you for this video! It’s definitely the most informative video I found on English Ivy propagation.
Thank you Caleb! This is all new to me, so any comments are greatly appreciated. As the weather warms up I'll hope to have some more videos about various things, both wildlife and plants! "Let's create a buzz!"
how much planning on selling?
Have you taken Hedera cuttings before? Will you be giving this a go? Please let us know below!
Trying some today I'm not sure if I've done it right will take another look tomorrow. looks easy enough......love ivy especially for wildlife and birds
Yep, once it matures and flowers there's not much better for pollinators and birds. It's the range of things attracted that amazes me the most.
Clear as mud!
What else do you want to know?
@@abuzzandaflutter6349 don't worry about trolls. It's pretty clear.
Hi there. I bought an established hedera canariensis “Tropical Blizzard” from one of our local nurseries here in my town and it appears to have been overrun by spider mites while we were out of town for a few weeks. There are a few good leaves at the end of two vines, but otherwise 6 other vines and the rest of the leaves on the two remaining vines were deader than dead 😩😩 Is there a way to propagate each growth point without any leaves?
Great video! I have a question, can I put multiple ivy cuttings in the same pot together?
That is how nurseries do it when they sell you small pots.
You sound a lot like James cCordon
the cuttings don't need to be that small tho right? what kind of soil did u use? I used longer ones in water before but took long time, would soil be faster?
Hi Brad S - Thank you for your comment. You're absolutely right and I would definitely recommend longer cuttings, but context is everything. These were taken at the end of October, a far from ideal time to take Ivy cuttings (if you stick to the books) so I made the most of what I had.
Ideally, you'd want to take these about now, up to say August, with longer cuttings. Why? More chance to grow due to heat and more area for rooting, producing a plant more quickly!
I used our garden soil as they were already adapted to it, otherwise I'd use peat free silva grow by Melcourt, as it's light and loose. "Let's create a buzz!"
Ur video is very nice, but i would say az a joke : just cut it and throw it on the soil and it will grow roots in days 😄 nothing more simple than growing this plant 😀
Can I put the cuttings in water
I cant really see what you did with the first cutting. Did you just lay it on the soil?
So you removed the leave where the roots would potentially grow from?
No, I removed the larger leaves as they are a drain on the plants energy as there are no roots to support them. Removing the leaves also signals chemically to the auxillery buds that it's time to get growing. These buds are tucked, dormant, between the leaf and the stem.
Another good method and one that ivy naturally does, is to layer whole lengths of stem on the ground where they will root readily. Just pull it out once rooted and plant up in as many pieces as you want.
Devami???
How long until it reaches 10ft ?
I don't know I'm afraid as there are too many variables, but as a vine it could achieve it in a year or two, though they'll be more whip like.
Shortly after propagating a small stem/node in direct soil, the leaf wilted shortly after. Is it normal for the trimmings to wilt shortly after?
It's unlikely to recover as it can't get the required moisture to the leaf now that it doesn't have roots. The best thing you can do is take multiple cuttings, with longer lengths if you have plenty as this will allow for more root potential. You're always going to lose a few with cuttings, it's an odd games as well as skill. Have you tried layering a stem of ivy still connected to the plant?
Can I propagate it in water?
I did mine in the autumn (fall if you're American) and that was pushing it! Cuttings need light and some warmth to help them grow. The idea is to get them to form roots as quickly as possible so that they can take up nutrients to make leaves. I would definitey do some now though if you're in the UK?
A Buzz And A Flutter in water not in winter 😂 I live in Venice, Italy 🇮🇹
Still hot here
Haha, misread. Do you have it growing anywhere near you? Ciao
maybe cut your nails first? nope?
Bless you, I found that very helpful! You'll be pleased to know that since October last year I have cut my nails. You should see my teeth though they're a lot worse, and as for losing my hair. I'll try radio how to's to help you out in the future.
@@adamyoung3286 Thank you for the great feedback. Happy for your nails (may they RIP). Cheerleading the teeth now. Hope they will receive a good care and love as well. Losing hair as you age is not a big deal tho. #stayclean #takecare
@@lll-qr4yu Amazing how sarcastic yet polite we can be at the same time - I think they call it passive aggressive? On the plus side it has been funny!
I agree, losing hair really isn't a problem to me, but then again, with nails like those and teeth like mine, I think most people have already stopped looking at that point!
@@adamyoung3286 Nails or teeth, video is helpful, thanks. Tried with my Ivy, hope it succeeds :)
@@lll-qr4yu Haha, cheers! Take some longer lengths of ivy if you have enough of it, because you'll get a much stronger, quicker to establish plant that way.
Also, if your ivy is touching the ground, have a dig around, there's bound to be some already rooted parts.
Just do fuck all and that shit will take over your garden by itself. Can’t get rid of it
