Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is a One Tough Animal

- Опубліковано 20 лип 2024
- Take the capable Chevy Colorado ZR2, add half the gear in American Expedition Vehicle'’s catalogue and you get the Bison. It’s a tough truck that’ll cover nearly any terrain in front of it. It comes with boron steel skid plates and more cameras than a reality show production. Plus DSSV Multimatic spool valve dampers with hydraulic bump stops! Fortunately for owners, it’s rather tame on road too. But let’s talk about hat spare tire…
Tom Voelk checks it out in all conditions with special guest Cory Taulbert, the Colorado engineering manager.

I think the Colorado is the best looking new midsize. Not sure which one I'd buy, but GM nailed the styling inside and out.
Agree, thing looks awesome
I want the Colorado
I opted for the "regular" ZR2... which, save for the tires, is effectively the same. It's my first truck (I'm a 7-time Subaru owner) and I'm shocked at how much I like it!
I get it, the standard ZR2 is a lot more practical. Nice truck Curt.
Got 2024 zr2 and love it. I’ve never owned a vehicle where strangers come up and compliment and ask about it.
Same here in my 2923 ZRa2, complements all.the.time.
I ordered one but it never came
As a toyota fan boy and their quality completely falling off the cliff this past year. Gm is in the running for great year!!!
Shoutout to the yard worker who hand bombed all the bags of gravel into the bed. What a legend.
I was thinking the same thing as I was unloading them. I'm guessing they weighed around 100 pounds.
As someone who owns two Wranglers and an F-150 with a lift, you eventually figure out the entry.
Researched all midsized & Jeep. Chose 2023 Colorado ZR2 and absolutely satisfied on and offroad. The 2.4LI4T is BEAST.
ZERO Issues.
The fact that this thing is trail ready from the factory is awesome, but I’d be a little hesitant to use it to its full potential with a price tag like that. Even took me a few years of ownership to really start sending it with my Tacoma, and I paid a heck of a lot less for it, even when factoring in mods/upgrades
Such a sweet looking truck and packed with features
Always excellent!! And they would sell as many of these in Australia as they could make in right hand drive: pickups (or utes as they are called here) with off road capability are insanely popular here!
The Glacier Blue is the most beautiful blue I've ever seen. A shame that GM plans to discontinue it soon. Personally I'm stuck between the Nitro Yellow and the Glacier Blue both are great color choices.
Unless your 20, do the blue
Very impressive truck, your honest reviews are great. Unfortunately probably only 5% of buyers will take advantage of its capabilities. Your review does make me interested in the lower trim levels.
People who buy these models actually use them... so your 5% is pathetic....
Love the styling, wish they would offer it in a PHEV or BEV configuration.
Still the best reviewer for Real life
I love the truck reviews Tom,, TY.... as for the Bison... I'll have to pass and take the Ford Ranger Raptor. 🙂
I remember when Chevy put 5.3l in Colorados…sad what they’ve come to with 4 banger
Except the "4 banger" has more HP and a lot more torque than that 5.3 has.
I wish one with this package was under $50k
Don't we all...
Great video!
Idk...Ford went the extra mile to make a different frame for the Raptor (which already has a different frame vs. the regular F-150) to fit the 37'' tire in the spare. Not sure why Chevy couldn't do that with the Colorado Bison, especially when they make something so cool to compete in a super competitive segment. The bed is so small and the tire already takes up 1/4 the space. Mount the tire on a swing gate in the back and you lose the backup and 360 camera. There's just no good solution to this.
Cool product, but I just think the engineers didn't go far enough to make something unique. Good review!
Correct, no easy solution. Since it isn't a full sized pickup like F150, there's not enough room back there I suspect, especially to keep the departure angle.
Why a 4-banger if only getting 16MPG? Nutty.
Proof that there is no free lunch. If you want V8 power from a 4 cylinder, you get V8 fuel mileage to match. And maybe it's just me, but 4 cylinder engines just sound like s**t. 6ers sound pretty good, but for me the noises from a V8 are the best.
Dude, it's a high performance, lifted truck with MT tires.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT??
LOL
Enjoy your Prius.
👏👏
65 grand. Never mind.
Big screen tv ✅️
Did your evil twin take a hiatus?? Haven’t seen him in a while
I think he moved to Florida
These new gen offroad trucks and SUVs are cool but with gas at 4-5 bucks a gallon and rising, they will suck $20,000 in gas over 60k miles. With a 4 cylinder. These needs to be hybridized asap
True
That's a BIG NEGATIVE hoss!
LOVE this engine.
LOVE this truck, but those wheels are ugly af and that engine is way underpowered. If they put a more appropriate Turbo V6 or something similar in it, they'd dominate the market.
What's wrong with the rims?
Dumb design using screen to turn on and off the headlights
How often you touch the lights? The turn stalk still activates high beams.
Livin in the past buddy. Auto headlights; NOBODAY turns lights on/off.
That's something that you never use.... you are just another troll
It's just as easy and literally takes the exact same amount of time as reaching down and turning the knob on my silverado.
Please tell me there’s a diesel version…
If I did I would be lying. Silverado Bison has a diesel option I think.
I can’t believe the amount of people complaining about the spare tire, getting in the truck and bed space. Then don’t get it my gosh people can’t be happy. Then buy the z71 and shut up.
No complaining. Pointing out.
@@DrivenCarReviews those are very obvious points come on dude really? The truck was built to be an off road machine. That’s how it should be reviewed.
@@sanchez2823 Of course it’s an off-road vehicle. But even if people push it to do what it’s intended to do, 95% of its time it’s still going to be on road and used as an everyday vehicle. And honestly, you’d be shocked at the number of people that don’t understand this, and are unhappy with their purchase once they’ve lived with it for a couple months.
@@DrivenCarReviews agreed. Love your videos too. I own the bison and I love this truck. Best truck for the Rocky Mountains I have ever had.
Probably premium fuel, too
Regular
Nope
Hi Guys, Thank you
That engine sounds embarrassing however
Sounds great live. Forget your cheap cp speaker lol.
And 99% of them will never see anything more than a dirt road which can easily be transversed by a Toyota Corolla.
This "outdoor lifestyle" you see on TV and YT, is for people who make $200k+ who can afford vacations, big trucks, trailers boats, ATVs, etc.
This thing is $61k!!!! That is half of most mortgages. And unlike a house, which will tend to gain value, this thing will depreciate like every other Chevy product. CR rates the Colorado as one of the least reliable trucks made.
Half most mortgages? I wish.
