I just got done doing my leg shave with Gillette Pure. Lathers good and decent scent and I like the mint and menthol in it. The residual slickness and post shave feel could be better, but it is at a good price point.
Thanks for dropping by Jill! I cannot comment on the leg part of the shave... not something I indulge in. But on my face, the residual slickness and the post shave feel were #1. Gillette Pure is a few notches superior to the Proraso cream IMHO. The real test for this cream is to see how long it will remain on the market and to see if it will get traction with the people who are not part of the community/hobby. I used to give Arko sticks to people who want to try wet shaving but I think I will get a few of these tubes at home for this purpose. Gillette has a great distribution system and a lot of visibility, Pure could easily become a gateway cream...
Hey Chris! I will search where European can find the cream ( I am leaving the Maggard meet up today). Will it give you a better shave than your top tier soap, no but the hobbyist may still find a nice shave with it!
Great video Marc! Good to see you back. You have a G plate for the Karve? So far, I think my favorite is the open comb C. I've tried the Gillette cream and it is quite good in my opinion as well, but I still prefer the Maca Root from Body Shoppe. Have you tried the Rex Ambassador? I'm considering it as I like to adjust quickly, but am not sure that I can justify the price (other than the quality appears good). My Karve is still by far my favorite, along with a Gillette New Short Comb. Cheers.
Callahangonefishing Thanks! Yup, I do have the G plate. So far, I love it. It took me a while to get used to the F plate but the G plate has been my daily driver since I got it. It is taking time away from my ALE straight razor right now but I want to give it a good run so I really figure out how it really perform. I also have Macca Root and yes it is a good cream. the upper hand this one has, you find it in places like Walmart and the price is really good. It might not be a cream that will rock the wet shaving community but a lot of guys that dont know anything about wet shaving may try it just to try something different and may discover wet shaving this way. Only time will tell...
“G” plate for Goddamn this is gonna be an efficient shave. Love my Karve. And I found the same things with this cream when I reviewed it..... a very nice offering from Gillette as they step into more of a higher end better performing product. Thanks Justin! It is a nice cream and I got it for 5$ Canadian while I saw it here in the US for 7$ US... I might stock up back in Ottawa... the large on the G plate is such a nice razor. I am really amaze at the comfort of it for such an efficient razor!
Dartmouth Shaving I snagged mine on rollback for $4.79!!! What a steal. And to be honest I’m not surprised the G plate was as smooth as it was..... the Karve is a wonderful piece of engineering. Easily the best DE that I own.
Awesome review brother! I too reviewed this cream awhile back & found it to be an awesome cream too! However, I didn’t experience any dissipation of the cream as you did. In fact, it handled the water quite well, but It could very well possibly be the difference in both our waters! Another thing I found quite odd was, I didn’t get any citrus notes from it as you did. It smelled more to me like Cedarwood, with a very light hint of Oud. 🤔 But no two experiences are alike! 😉👍🏼

Hey Steph! c'est un peu plus que ca fait le job... c'est malheureux a dire mais c'est une excellente creme. J'aimerais pouvoir dire que Gillette vont se casser le nez avec ca mais ca serait mentir. Le bon cote de la chose c'est que peut-être ca va permettre a plusieurs personnes une manière différente de se raser . Je recommande.
