Because making such an OP upgrade is gonna ruin the game, everyone will become demi- gods who have those towers with op upgrades, and everyone would lose the interest once they used the op upgrade really much times, which is gonna leave tds no future.
If you're actually using the right units you won't get too much extra money for sure. Also upgrading after max probably would need a personal hard formula for each unit to not make it broken.
Just make it like Toy Defender where the stats from the upgrade are preset and the cost will keep increasing. Here are my ideas. 1 for mortar it will turn all red just like accelerator. It will shoot lasers down onto the enemies during massive amount of damage and there will be ability called. Last resort it will do quarter million damage but it has a 20 round cool down it will do 2000 damage each mortar shell and sword man just do growing swords and second ability jump onto flying enemies doing 1000 damage and able to pop lead balloons
what I think they should do is make a mode where it shows how much money you spent during the game and has a leaderboard of how many moneys and whoever gets the least amount moneys gets 1st 2nd all the way to 100 or smth
