My initial plan was a corsair 4000d case, a 3060ti and a ryzen 7 5000 series, with 16gb of ram and corsair compatible cooling all round. I hadn't chosen a specific motherboard yet and the PS was going to be whatever worked well with my components. My main focus was a clean white build tbh
That quickly dropped to this card and a ryzen 5 3000 series, although I might just hold off indefinitely.
I'm literally just going to wait 4-6 months and try again
I imagine how well my 1070 would peform with those gddr6.
Also what I've been wondering about lately. Pascal, but with GDDR6 and a die shrink would be a hell of a price/performance champ
pascal is not bottleneck by vram speed, turing core was redesigned completely and taking in mind gddr6 since the early stages of the gpu design, this is why the 1660 super have that heavy performance boost thanks to gddr6 vs gddr5

I love the look. I prefer old style programs with simple, easy to read lines of text for everything rather than the many menus and convoluted buttons you get these days. Just look at Windows 10 settings compared to XP...... Wtf did they do

I got this card a few days ago and I'm really happy with it. Amazing bang for your buck. I used the Ryzen 3400G APU for a while, playing most AAA games on low or medium at most. With the 1660 super, pretty much anything runs at 60+fps (sometimes ranging in the hundreds) with everything on ultra at 1080p, which is awesome since I don't currently have any monitors or tv with higher resolutions, nor plan on buying any soon.

You laugh at Image Sharpening until you play RDR2 where the game pretty much forces you to use Blob Mode. (AKA, TAA)
THEN all of a sudden you need that added sharpening.
It works well in ffxv and re7 and re2 as well.
Ye, some games include their own image sharpening for when taa is enabled, but its not contrast adaptive.
Also, you don’t have to crank it all the way up to 0.7-1, just 0.3-0.35 with ignore grain at 0.2 is pretty good improvement without being obvious and annoying.
The Division 1 looks better with image sharpening. And it comes from a person who usually dislikes third party filters in games.
@@jonathanellis6097 FFXV looked like trash without sharpening, the AA was horrible. With a bit of lumasharpen in reshade it looked 1000x better.

IMAGE SHARPENING is Very useful in games like COD MW 2019 where internal resolution is downscaled. I got it set to 70 to make it look Decent. So Linus u Wrong.

I've been thinking of buying one of these since I heard they're coming out, then I read your title and think "ah fuck well there goes that" but then realise its LTT with their totally accurate titles
They're a good buy right now at the pricepoint. I got a 1660 Ti and it's a 1080p absolute beast, the Super according to benchmarks is very close to the Ti for $50 or so cheaper.
If you're going to spend 250-300 on a card just spend 400 and get a 5700xt

@@harith1626 the 5600-XT is definitely less powerful than the 1660. I just recommend saving for a card with more power though because the difference in FPS is relatively small. Maybe go for a 1080 or slightly below if it doesn't fit your price range.

I bought this card as my first upgrade and it has been one of the best purchases ever for me. I finally switched mostly to gaming on pc with this and I love that I can run everything at max res with 60+fps

Linus, I would actually advise you to take a more in depth look at Image Sharpening. Nvidia and Radeon's solution is actually not as bad as the solutions we had before.
And the image sharpening those 2 provide are actually ideal for games that has a limited selection of Anti-Aliasing options where TAA are among the only options. Due to the fact that TAA gives a very blurry Anti-Aliased image compared to SMAA or MSAA. Even FXAA, which is also slightly blurry is still a little sharper. Image Sharpening compensates for the blurry image created by TAA to give you a visual image that looks more in line with what SMAA or MSAA provides, while still being a little less demanding than MSAA.

Linus and crew, can I just say thank you for including Blender within your content creator benchmarks. I build and use PCs for my professional work in 3d first and gaming second. So while this is a gaming and tech channel I appreciate the little things like that.
I bought the 1660 super in late december, last year, for some ~$250 + tax. For some reason I think this card won't age that well, since it's already dipping its toes in the 30-40FPS area, when running SOME modern games on ultra. If you pretend to buy this GPU in the next months, I'd recommend you to be cautious, and to consider the GTX 1080ti or even the RTX 30XX series if you want your graphics card to have a longer lifespan.
That said, I do think it is a very good graphics card for this day (21/02/2023), if you don't take ray tracing into account, and it runs most games at an average of 60-90FPS on high to ultra, 1080p. The only performance issues I've faced to this day were GOW 2018 reaching ~45FPS on ultra, and the same happened to Halo Infinite. I feel it's even a sin to complain, since I jumped from hell-ish 25FPS sttutery gameplay on a Intel UHD 620, to smooth +120FPS in some games.
You are absolutely right, the thing is that Ultra settings are mostly pointless. The visual difference between optimized settings and ultra settings on God of War is nonexistent. It's still a decent 1080p card in most games.
@@andrej7840 Yep. Halo Infinite also has no noticeable visual changes from medium to ultra. The only game where I've seen an ABYSS between medium and high was TLOU Part I, even on the very low settings I couldn't reach 60 FPS and the game looked like shit. But TLOU on the PC sucked for everyone on launch, I'll give the game a second try some months from now, maybe it won't crash every 5 seconds and it'll overcome the 45 FPS average. Thank god I don't pre-order games.
@@desenhochines TLOU's graphics aren't even that impressive, RDR2 is an open world game with better graphics and it runs on Hardware Unboxed's settings always above 60. I even play it myself with 2x MSAA on and most of the time I'm at like 63 fps with the 1660 Super. TLOU is just optimised like garbage and when you consider the graphics a 1660 super should be able to run it medium-high with high textures at 60 fps no problem, it's a linear game.
Hard pass... I'll be waiting for the "super-duper' version.

2:00 the whole point of it Is when you are playing on say a 4K panel at 1440p, it helps produce a better scaled sharper image which to me looks much better when running non native resolutions.
I wish I'd bought one of these, rather than the XFX AMD RX580, which I've found is very unstable during heavy OpenCL calculations... Hopefully once my refund is processed, I'll buy a GTX1660 Super :-)

Radeon image sharpening looks amazing, especially when you run at something like 1800p on a 4K display. You gain a lot of perfoemance with no noticable visual loss.
Less accurate colors, more noticeable aliasing, color banding. I don't get how people don't notice the color accuracy changes, its extremely obvious to my eyes.
It's also extremely useful for games with overly-blurry TAA like Resident Evil 2.
Radeon image sharpening is great yea... And honestly, same is this new nvidia image sharpening. Doubt Linus will understand 1080p-1440P gamers cause of all his money and 4k/8k monitors lol....

I have a 1660 super. I am currently playing cyberpunk 2077 on medium to high settings.
I get a solid 56-61 FPS in all areas.
As a noob player, my needs are more than satisfied with this GPU.
ReShade is one of those things that, once you have it, you wonder where it's been all your life.
7:10 The used market is far less volatile than the new market nowadays, you would've been super salty if you bought an RTX card late 2018/early 2019 only to have the supers coming a few months later, which basically make the 2060s about as powerful as a 2070 (sometimes even MORE). Also don't forget Radeon VII which only lived for like a few months... and every year we're seeing a new CPU launch that obliterates the prices of the last gen cpu (2700 from 300 to about 150 WITHIN LESS THAN A YEAR). Moral of the story: buy used guys.

i bought an 1660 super for 1080p gaming, in Combo with Ryzen 5 3600. And it´s good and enough.
I have the ryzen 7 with this card I get 144fps on it I thought the max in this card was 60 I play most games on high settings

I replaced my Two Galaxy GTS 450 Fermis in SLI with an Asus 1660 Super OC Dual this morning. I went from two 10 year old "mid range (at the time) cards" to the 1660. All I can say is: For only $239 in the current market, I gives me steady cream in my pants. Wow. It's so fucking quiet. Ia own going to start gaming again. My world has been forever changed.
I built my PC two years ago and took those from my old computers and kept them going because I'm cheap. They still work. So I'll probably throw some trash together and put them in.

I have this gpu currently installed and it perfectly runs CP2077 and any VR title. It's an amazing card. I'd probably upgrade to make use of the RTX software nvidia offers.
Same here, bought it 3 years ago and still solid, dont plan to upgrade any time soon looking at the ridiculous gpu market.
