@@DeosPraetorian pretty much Is to compete low end. They rule the high end amd usually rules the low end but they still require competition on both sides even just a little so the government doesn't come in ruining things. Which is why we saw Radeon 7 release. I dont think the 1660ti was made to compete with navi we still dont fully know. From what I did understand from amd was that navi was not necessarily high end. It was supposed to be a low to mid range cards. So basically its like the 500 series but calling it the 600 series with actual improvement and then the top of the line 600 series competes with a 2060 lets say at 50$ less or so we all hope. With what amd is doing so far...it seems to be the opposite of what we are expecting. Right now the 1660ti lower cost cards are the best cards you can buy for 1080p gaming and even starting 1440p. They are the best cost to budget ratio for now. The 2070 comes in second as the high end best budget card. Making the 2060 and 2080 both sort of irrelevant for most people which was done on purpose. They want people to spend the premium for those who are the extremists. The 2080ti is just a mistake if you ask me I could have easily been a 1000$ card maybe 900$ msrp and up to 1100$ for high end hybrid or liquid cooled cards. But nope but perhaps that was done on purpose to anger fans who knows.

Here is my twocents :D 1. Unlock the extra voltage (which is gimmick IF YOU DO NOT ADJUST THE CURVE!) By default, nvidia's max voltage is 1.05V but with the voltage to 100% you can go up to 1.093V How? 2. After you find the stable overclock without adjusting the curve you open the curve and bump up the frequency by 15Hz on the voltages 1.087V and 1.093V. That's it! 15 extra Mhz plus if you have some time you can adjust the curve to your GPU so when you drop speed, you drop to a higher speed. .... Explanation/Example: (step is a plateau in the curve of speed vs frequency) When you start the temp was around 40oC, you had a 1965@1.037V (correct speed as in curve) Next frames the temp goes close to 45oC, you jump one step down to 1950@1.031V (correct speed as in curve) When temps cross 50oC, the speed state the same but the voltage increased! 1950@1.050V (two steps more voltage than in curve) At 60oC, the speed dropped down two steps (1950-1935-1920) 1920@1.031V (two steps more voltage than in curve, two steps lower in speed due to temps passing 55 and 60) ADDED 50 (3x15), 3 steps in speed At 60, the speed goes 3 steps more than before (1920-1935-1950-1965) 1965@1.031V Due to power limit dropped to 1950@1.006V (keeping the two steps voltage different and two steps speed different as before) ADDED 70 (4x15), 4 steps in speed (speed goes up to 1965 as was expected @1.031V), ADDED 90 (6x15), 6 steps in speed (speed goes up to 1995 as was expected @1.031V), ADDED 120 (8x15), 8 steps in speed (speed goes up to 2025 as was expected @1.031V), ADDED 150 (10x15), 10 steps in speed (speed goes up to 2055 as was expected @1.031V) AAAAND 2070@1.037V If you push the curve with another step at 1.087V it will think that will have extra steps in the beginning and will boost all the speed by one step. If you reeeeeally want to spend time, you reconfigure the steps every 2-3 voltages to create even more steps/plateau! :O SORRY FOR THE LONG COMMENT :)

What they should've done was 11. You know, the number that follows 10? They could've kept the GTX numbers flowing and moved onto 20, 21 etc. for RTX. Oh but wait, that would make too much sense and would be boring, nevermind.
Seriously, all they had to do was name the original 2060 the RTX 2060ti and name this one the GTX 2060. There would literally be no confusion. RTX is what defines the ray tracing name, not the 20.

The best GTX 1660 Ti is $309, RTX 2060 is $389, that's more than 40-50 bucks. Factor in tax you will be paying $329 for the top 1660 Ti and $420 for RTX 2060. There is definitely room between those two cards to justify buying one over the other. OC the memory on the 1660Ti and you can get the 1660Ti to match the 2060 memory bandwidth.

I know this video is ancient but just so you know that in 2020 with modern drivers the 1660ti and 1070 gap has vanished at stock speeds. The 1660 super/ti both trade blows with a 1070 stock for stock with more games then not falling in the 1660 ti's favor by a few fps and few still favoring the 1070 by a few fps. Effectively they are identical though in 2020. Just grab whatever is cheaper.

@@masonm6595 You have no idea what you're talking about lmao the 1660ti has way more shader and cuda cores so its outperforming your 1060 by 20-30%. Just because the clock speed is higher doesnt mean its better, i.e. a RX 580 runs with 1400Mhz and is slightly stronger than a 1060.

I know the symptoms of video card instability well. Core: Look for errors like "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" or similar. Also, a random Direct3D init failure error box, especially for GTA V. Also, look for squares the pop up all over the screen, looking like a bad digital TV signal. A total system lockup is more likely with unstable core. Unstable VRAM: Look for random lines, especially flashing lines. Also, watch for skipped frames! Also, a WHEA BSOD for "Cache Hierarchy Error" is more likely to occur in the case of unstable VRAM.
i do love EVGA for that. They look at the base model and turn it up to max, call it normal and then say "ok, you go have fun now". Also: Destiny 2 is ULTRA PICKY. Most my other games allow for about +90 mhz (on an already oc'd card) but Destiny 2 is like "NOOOooooo I don't like!" and soft crashes to desktop randomly.
1660ti showed that NVIDIA knew RTX was worthless this generation. If ray tracing was worth anything, then at the very least the most powerful 1660 variant should be as powerful as the 2060 just without RTX. A product for those not interested in ray tracing to get the performance of the midrange card for slightly less if you didn't want the extra feature, But they knew how worthless that feature is this generation on it's own i, especially at 2060 level of power, so they had to cripple even the most powerful of 3 types of 1660s to give the 2060 any value at all.

AND no SLI for these cards, no 8 GB memory, all of this at the price point it sells is no accident. If it had 8 Gb of ram which it could and SLI connectors enabled it will be a bone in NVIDIA's neck because then the guys can build machines with 2 of these cards at $600 price range knocking out RTX 2080 and 2080 Super out of place. NVIDIA started this price manipulation games as soon as AMD dropped out of the map for high end GPUs. Having this GPUs wount get any cheaper, the next high end NVIDIA generation will cost triple digits and absolutely no SLI to their mid range cards to ensure the sale point is there for their high end TIs models.

If it really bothered them then why not take a stand and use AMD?
Thats not how it works. Its not even close as simple as you make it out to be.

@@Voodoo. you also expect your Overclocking youtuber to overclock his stuff and cool the shit out of the fastest gpu to get those firestrike numbers up. That won't happen with a Radeon 7 with alpha drivers.
@@Voodoo. Nvidia bombarded us with expensive cards now doing the same with budget cards 1660ti, 1660, 1650. Smh.
The only reason they even released the budget cards was to get ahead of Navi from AMD
Is lots of choice a bad thing?
@@Voodoo. No; But is the context more or less choice in the short-term or more or less choice in terms of long-term (or even medium-term) of consumer buying decisions. Sometimes supporting an underdog who isn't first to market is good. And ultimately electronics choice is affected by geological resources needed to manufacture NAND flash....we're talking about brands, not manufacturing supply in a sense. Depends how you look at it.
i use a GTX1080 ATM - but honestly - when you look on RTX260 or GTX1660ti --> a RX590 from AMD with 3 games included worth 100$ ++ plus a LOWER PRICE (!) and about the same performance is simply the better deal at the moment....

700$ in Canada. After taxes even more.
Here is my twocents :D
1. Unlock the extra voltage (which is gimmick IF YOU DO NOT ADJUST THE CURVE!)
By default, nvidia's max voltage is 1.05V but with the voltage to 100% you can go up to 1.093V
How?
2. After you find the stable overclock without adjusting the curve you open the curve and bump up the frequency by 15Hz on the voltages 1.087V and 1.093V.
That's it! 15 extra Mhz plus if you have some time you can adjust the curve to your GPU so when you drop speed, you drop to a higher speed.
....
Explanation/Example: (step is a plateau in the curve of speed vs frequency)
When you start the temp was around 40oC, you had a 1965@1.037V (correct speed as in curve)
Next frames the temp goes close to 45oC, you jump one step down to 1950@1.031V (correct speed as in curve)
When temps cross 50oC, the speed state the same but the voltage increased! 1950@1.050V (two steps more voltage than in curve)
At 60oC, the speed dropped down two steps (1950-1935-1920) 1920@1.031V (two steps more voltage than in curve, two steps lower in speed due to temps passing 55 and 60)
ADDED 50 (3x15), 3 steps in speed
At 60, the speed goes 3 steps more than before (1920-1935-1950-1965) 1965@1.031V
Due to power limit dropped to 1950@1.006V (keeping the two steps voltage different and two steps speed different as before)
ADDED 70 (4x15), 4 steps in speed (speed goes up to 1965 as was expected @1.031V), ADDED 90 (6x15), 6 steps in speed (speed goes up to 1995 as was expected @1.031V), ADDED 120 (8x15), 8 steps in speed (speed goes up to 2025 as was expected @1.031V), ADDED 150 (10x15), 10 steps in speed (speed goes up to 2055 as was expected @1.031V) AAAAND 2070@1.037V
If you push the curve with another step at 1.087V it will think that will have extra steps in the beginning and will boost all the speed by one step.
If you reeeeeally want to spend time, you reconfigure the steps every 2-3 voltages to create even more steps/plateau! :O
SORRY FOR THE LONG COMMENT :)

1660ti showed that NVIDIA knew RTX was worthless this generation. If ray tracing was worth anything, then at the very least the most powerful 1660 variant should be as powerful as the 2060 just without RTX. A product for those not interested in ray tracing to get the performance of the midrange card for slightly less if you didn't want the extra feature,
But they knew how worthless that feature is this generation on it's own i, especially at 2060 level of power, so they had to cripple even the most powerful of 3 types of 1660s to give the 2060 any value at all.

SLI is largely useless for gaming though.
