  • Here are some interesting parts:
1:12 - Elder Bednar's response to what he would teach about personal revelation. He says we make it too hard on us.
2:51 - He calls out some false beliefs we have, especially in the Western world, about what the Spirit is.
5:31 - Revelation is a process and in some cases has been in process with the prophets for decades.
6:49 - In many instances, the revelation is not what to do, the revelation is when to do.
8:46 - Listen for about two minutes as Elder Bednar talks of the importance of where you are when you want to receive revelation.
11:58 - Many times, what to do is clear - but it's the timing and the when to do we struggle with.
12:36 - Is there a pattern to receiving revelation or a principle?
13:32 - Elder Bednar clarifies that we are promised to "always have his Spirit to be with us" - we should always be in the revelation.
20:33 - How do we know we are doing things right?
22:52 - Importance of asking questions - as we do so, and as people answer, they are acting and it will develop faith in Christ.
26:38 - What makes Elder Bednar the saddest when he thinks about the members of the Church.
34:46 - The Lord teaches line upon line, and doesn't need to send angels to teach us.
43:25 - What are you hearing that has not been said?
50:18 - How do we better listen and observe people?
52:34 - Elder Bednar shares a powerful story about how his wife, Susan, sought to minister in a higher and holier way. This part is FASCINATING!
55:52 - The blessing of a lifetime. The story he shares of an encounter with President Hinckley is incredible.
58:18 - The phrase that Elder Bednar is tired of hearing. Very profound.
59:28 - "The longer I serve the less satisfied I am with words."
Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Brother Chad Webb teach and facilitate a discussion at the February 2020 Evening with a General Authority event.

I wonder if anyone in this group caught on to the fact he was MODELING how to teach? Allowed questions, payed attention to the questions, had them answer their own questions a number of times. Then followed up by making sure what he said was RECEIVED by asking if what he said makes sense. So many examples that I can't even list them...

Yes!! Finally specific instructions to quit inventing formulas and lists to get what we want from God- ask questions of those we serve and move forward.. God gives us the power succor and care for his children. Get our noses out of the books and lists and just live and love in all we do! We can’t love and serve anyone that we don’t talk to, interact with or ask questions of!! So refreshing!

I joined the church some 47 years ago. The flow of living with the companionship of the Holy Ghost is as he teaches. It has been the most wonderful of experiences to have the words, examples and teachings of the apostles. The spirit magnifies their messages with the things we need to hear.

As I watched this he asked the question, what did you hear that's not being said. I got this, the more that I fail, the more successful I become. That makes sense to me, don't know if that makes sense to you. As I fail, I am then humbled to pray more. I think this helps me to tune in to the spirit more so that I can then be prepared to have success

I learned that if I am keeping the Commandments and don't have big "hit over the spiritual head" experiences, I can know that I am worthy and able to have steady and constant personal revelation.
I also have learned that God gives us unique opportunities and choices for listening to the Spirit. I am grateful for knowing that I can receive my own revelation that works best for me and have the freedom to receive the Spirit no matter how or what it might look like for me. 😊

"We should expect them to be what they are." Wow. That one just hangs on to my brain and won't let go. They are Children of God. It shouldn't surprise us when they live up to it. It should be our goal to help them live up to their birthright as Children of God as often and as much as humanly possible.

The image that came to my mind around minute 22 was a person moving forward at fairly consistent pace on a zigzagging path that is generally headed the right direction but in constant need of correction....vs a person who is constantly starting and stopping because they are trying to get their trajectory just right...even though the first is "erring" a little more they are going to progress much quicker and get to their destination sooner

Long story short, teaching and learning about revelation is not teaching about steps, or processes, or techniques to enhance the experience. It is about a paradigm shift.
I think that's fundamentally what God tries to help us achieve from before we're converted until the day we die, and he does it through patterns, and His word, etc. It's not a daunting task to be 'in it all the time' with revelation. Just act, instead of being acted upon, and make sure you are baptized and trying to follow the commandments, and you're there. I think it's probably more daunting for people to accept that they're already there than it is to actually get there by a mile. Similar to how it is harder to accept being forgiven than it is to be forgiven.

      So true
And our people get bashed for
“ always trying to be perfect “
I just get sad when I hear that
The fact is we are imperfect people that have been given the truth
Like Ammon said to Alma and the sons of Mosiah
We have been given so much and if not for the spirit thousands of the Lamanites would have died following traditions of their fathers ( paradigms) and never knowing the truth ?
      Ammon, Alma, etc.....
Their happiness exhausted them because they loved the people so much
Elder Bednar is a modern day Apostle
We are so blessed to know not only the truth of this life but HOW to be guided by the eternal power Ammon and Alma and David Bednar are teaching us !!!
We are the most blessed people on earth 🌎
Let us learn to love and teach like this

With all due respect to the people asking questions I feel like they are just telling Bednar what they think he wants to hear. I find their conclusions vague, and pandering and illusive. This type of speech doesn’t allow us to find the truth of our hearts and what we really think. They are worried about appearing as if they don't have faith to an apostle. However, one thing that I heard that helped me is basically don't expect grandiose revelation all the time or very frequently

"You are the Pioneer " I remember Elder David A. Bednar saying those words , when he visited South Africa.I participated in the Conversation topic on marriage .I was illuminated and strengthened ,on the way ,he responded to the question ,I asked him. On this topic "A Conversation on Leading Like the Savior and Buil.. I like his phrasing of thought provoking questions for example ; What is happening to you right now as you think about that student? And the question I can ask myself before reading the scripture "how do I see that I do not usually see? What do I hear that I do not usually hear. I am blessed by the phrase "ministering will be now higher and holier " as we all striving to become - in the dispensation of the fullness of times.I believe Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ loves me.I know Jesus Christ is my Advocate to the Father.I may be weak but I feel strong. The Holy Ghost is my constant companion with courage that the Lord will fight for me in simple and ordinary way.

It just happens! Because it was to be.

I also feel so much better in how I'm serving the Lord, I shared in combine class in a question about ministering with our sisters, that we go out for lunch with our sisters we visit to get to know them better and they too can be abit more open, its not all the time but it works, but a stake presidency said, its not the food, you need to invite them back to church or activities, he mocked me... so this was great to listen to. What a powerful message, and what a testimony to me to see Heavenly Father driving truth into us more and more. I am so grateful to have a truly inspired prophet keep us on our toes yet still help us see and remember that we are good enough and how much God believes in us and trusts us. My desire is to not only to trust and believe in myself as much as Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ does, but to trust in Them in the same way. So what I heard from the Spirit in this discussion is loving the Lord and desiring His Spirit to be with me is good enough. I am good enough. We are all good enough. We are all wonderful children of Christ who just wants to be good and help others feel his love. That's all it's about. Thank you, Bro. Bednar for reminding me to keep it simple and to feel I am worth love and inspiration no matter how many blunders might occur on my way back to Him. Love you, Bro Bednar. Love you, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ! And love you all.
