2024 TACOMA VS 2023 TACOMA PRO OFFROADING TEST! Which one is the winner!?

  • We took my 2024 tacoma TRD off-road and Andrew's 2023 Tacoma Pro to a rough trail here in southern Utah to test offroad capabilities. The 24s transmission got hot at one point but that may have been due to user incompetence. The old reliable 23 had no issues but seemed to not perform as well in 4 Low.

Ok, I see you eventually went to low range and solved the problem. Good seeing the 2 gens together. In my 3rd Gen, I take off the mud flaps and add my hitch skid to the receiver to save the rear bumper I put the mud flaps back on when the trip is complete.. Good video overall. I just get perplexed seeing folks try to crawl in 4HI. But you figured it out and completed the trail. That’s cool.

Yeah I mentioned at the end that I’ve never really rock crawled before. I’ve always had trucks and done a ton of dirt roads, mud and snow but never really crawled. I’ve also been taught that you don’t put it in 4L till you get stuck😂 I do have a pretty decent understanding of how the machine works this so after it overheated I wondered if the lower gear ratio would make it so it didn’t have to work as hard and it worked👍
It was cool to take the 2 trucks out and compare them. And as much as I like my 4th gen I have to say, that 3rd gen pro is beautiful. But his mudflaps were definitely in the way😂 I have a video where I kinda complained about how the 4th gen mudflaps don’t do jack for containing the rocks and stuff. But they were definitely better at not hitting thing on the trail😂
      Thanks for watching!

*So before this gets misinterpreted as "New Tacoma transmissions overheats" the wrong range was selected... going uphill in slow-motion in 4H will give any car an overheat warning... I do believe the user is relatively new to offroading and this is a great lesson*

I did that trail last month and didn't even put my Bronco in 4wd. 2wd, locked rear was fine. I don't know how the taco is geared, but there is nothing super steap there. Certainly nothing that should require low range. Would have made it easier sure, and put less stress on the truck, but also there is a guy in a lifted Subaru who has done that trail several times at least...sooooo not sure not being in low range is a great excuse.

That’s a crappy 4H if it can’t handle Toquerville Falls road. There’s nothing on that road that would make me use 4L in my Land Cruiser. Hopefully we’ll see Toyota dial in these new trucks soon. Really glad I chose this combo over the ubiquitous Bilstein 5100's that your read about on most Tacoma sites (lot of young guys go for that due to price alone). The 6112/5160 is the next level - "the bang for the buck" basically means you are now in the realm of the higher quality stuff but not paying the "stupid" (take it for what it is) high dollar stuff like Fox, etc. or "the point of diminishing returns". The sweet spot I feel (you know, -what Tacoma pricing used to be like - ha!).

Why would anyone buy a truck that is overpriced with engine and transmission failures not to mention replacing a strong V6 and V8 with a turbo L4 because their engineers apparently are not smart enough to design. They created an electric truck and claimed specifications that are borderline fraud. I have owned Toyota trucks for over 20 years to include Tacoma’s and Tundras but I just replaced my old Tundra with a Honda Ridgeline Black Edition and I am very pleased with it to include the V6. I am done with Toyota Trucks they are much too arrogant and absolutely ignore the customer's wants and needs. Over the years when I have complained about issues and I address the executives I always get a call from a woman admin type for the executive office with boiler plate excuses and apologies. Toyota does not care about its customers just the bottom line. They will not rein in their rogue dealers who add on exorbitant markups, fees and addons claiming they have no leverage which is ridiculous. If it is true than Toyota attorneys and management do not know how to write contracts or again just don't care. I am done with Toyota trucks let those with money to throw away or burn buy them. There’s a lot of BS going around about these new trucks, and almost 100% of it is completely unfounded. Sorry but my past 3rd gen bogs at sea level because no torque. It feels like a toyota sienna with 7 passengers in it

This is funny because based on all the videos I see the 4th gen fixes a lot of the 3rd gen's issues.

Your transmission over heated because it is a piece of junk.
