    Speed academy did the same thing replacing the cams. Don't need to take the timing cover off. Just keep a bungee on the chain.

    I learned something from your trial and error with the tensioner. Also being in tdc without factory links I would have painted Marks on chain to confirm it's in exact same place before I took it apart. Love this channel and the in depth content you got my full support keep it going.

      That's not a fix, the spring needs to be replaced and the locking pin needs to be worked over with some abrasives until it moves freely in and out of it's detent.

    Yes remove tensioner but might be a good idea to mark cam gears to chain links for timing if we do not have the cam lock tool

    I was always under the impression you should unlock the VTC gear before you install it rather than lock it because Honda recommends you do that. I never found a sound explanation as to why, I just always did because they say to. However your said at the end of the vid to make sure you lock it and it's just conflicting information than I previously had from Honda. If possible, can you provide a brief explanation as to why you recommend to lock it versus unlocking it?

    Same thing with me, couldn't get enough slack on the chain, I ended up using the bar from my pump jack to pry the exhaust cam on, since I was throwing in the SI exhaust gear used a wrench to at the same time pry it up. I moved the cams to be in time with each other then re-aligned the chain before the chain went on, everything has to be in time with the crank pulley mark. I wouldn't have manually cranked without that timing to be right on point.

    Hey brother i had my k20z1 head rebuilt by a machine shop after previous rsx owner bent a exhaust valve. I used brand new supertech everything including dual 80lb valve springs, titanium retainers new lost motion springs, valves, guides, retainers. Once I got everything back together it runs great, lots of power but once the car is warmed up to operating temperature and I shut it off I hear these pinging noises from under the valve cover like the springs are unbinding. I have no misfires or issues yet but I cant for the life of me figure this out. I pulled valve cover, nothing looked weird cam lobes look fine, rechecked valve lash and set it on the looser end and the noise actually got worse. I'm gana go back in and set the lash back to normal but their is zero indication of what's making the noise. It sounds like spring or maybe a valve not seating correctly. Take a listen if you could, it's the noise right at the beginning of the video and tell me what ya think. 10 second clip. I have a longer video of about 3-4 of those loud ting noises. Gana be reaching out to 4P soon also since they know these heads in and out. Guessing a spring isnt seated right or the machine shop screwed something up. Really dont wana pull the head again. Thnx! Your videos have really helped me out when I bought my RSX. "Blazedc5" on insta. ✌

  • @AlexofSmeg

    i think the way you describe it isn't technically right. It's a spring and pin that locks it. This should happen when oil pressure is lost (engine stopped). The problem is the spring and pin not locking it after stopping. So the next time you start the mechanism is loose and slapping about until oil pressure builds up and it returns to normal operation

    Hi. There are some videos out there regarding the Honda K24 and K20 engines, where they open up the front cover of the VTC actuator and than just take out the actual lock pin spring and stretch it and then they place it back in. Many claim that no more rattle after. What do you think about that? Thanks

    Regarding the round punch marks on the VTC actuator and exhaust cam sprocket, are those exactly 90 degrees to the top of the chain case at TDC? Or are they skewed a little to the right or left?

    • @caseyalexander2244
      @caseyalexander2244 Рік тому

      If piston 1 is at TDC and the white mark on the crank pulley is lined up to the arrow on the timing cover, the two notches on the cam gears should be facing each other lined up. If they are off, the timing chain is stretched.
