Great video mate. Thanks a lot for this! Got my TT after my Dad died and he did all the work himself, I am not mechanically minded at all so this helps me a lot!
Wow what a refreshing YT video actually showing us how to carry out a mod without been too long or boring. Most YT videos are just constant FFwd and poor video camera location. Thanks for a awesome video that makes it possible for enthusiasts to carry out the same mod.
I came across this video a few weeks ago and today i decided i was gonna give it my full attention.I called Cloud 9 customs today. The chap called me back.Very helpful indeed. My friends working on my newly acquired 225 Quattro as its had air leaks under the manifold.Watching this video makes a lot of sense. It simplifys the system.Great video.I will be ordering this kit from Cloud 9 Customs.
Thanks Paul, great video. Tip for cutting the rubber pipes, I use a large sharp kitchen knife, smear some washing up liquid over the blade and around the rubber pipe and it cuts through like butter with nice clean cut. The washing up liquid stops the friction when you cut causing the blade to jump about.
Very well explained and shot, Paul. Well done from Australia. I have already installed a catch can on my Mk1 225 TT but it's mounted lower down on the battery case. I will be changing the mounting point to what you have just demonstrated because it's more accessible and a cleaner, simpler install.
Hi Paul, im trying to get the metal valve replacement and the bump plug for the manifold. Where can I get it and what's the name for this parts? Thank you
Hi after watching your video I've just brought a cloud 9 oil catch can kit I can't seem to find a garage to fit it I live in London do you have any suggestions please
Great video! The previous owner “installed” a junk Amazon can and deleted the sai. He also tossed the puck. Do I need the puck, or can I run the outlet directly into the turbo inlet? Thanks
Hi, and thanx for this nice vid. I’ve just seen on my can ( not installed yet, and same model ) that the grid inside is on the other way ! There are two screws to invert the position. So, not sure now if this grid must under the output :/
Dude amazing video thank you so much you are a life saver ❤️ so in depth even under the Manifold showing everything absolutely amazing 👏 other people that make DIY videos need to take notes 📝
The benefits of the catch can on a 225 TT is the removal of the OE spaghetti piping (that Paul showed after he removed it) of the PCV system to prevent vacuum leak problems that are hard to find and fix with the intake manifold in place. The OE PCV spaghetti piping is a complicated mix of hard plastic pipes, soft rubber pipes, one way valves and a Y Venturi valve. After 20 odd years of running a hot turbo engine bay, these pipes will disintegrate, crack, split and cause all kinds of symptoms to make your TT run badly. Doing the catch can mod Paul demonstrated will prevent all of this, is much easier to check & maintain and will let your crankcase breath much better, with excess oil vapour either being caught in the catch can or burnt up as it gets reinjected into the turbo via the TIP (which is what happens in the stock setup also). Hope that explains it...... Well worth doing!
I need to replace rear calipers, hoses, power brake booster, and all brake and clutch hydraulics on my buddy’s MK1 TT FWD. Is it a horrible pain in the ass to do the clutch line and the brake hydraulics?
My TT is remapped with decat, miltek exhaust, and Piper x filter. After doing mods I was getting around 27.5 mpg. When it was standard I got 30mpg. Did this catch can install and now getting 31.5mpg approximately! Must be to do with the car breathing better... Definitely worth doing... Has anyone else had better mpg after fitting?
Hi Paul great vid. I look to u as the Audi man. I have a headlight problem on a Audi TT 150 halogen headlight were as the adjuster motor is kaput. Is this repairable or is it a new headlight? Cheers
@@CarsForPaul pipework is there for a purpose what scares me is audi has spent millions on development to get the cars working right but you come along in your garage thinking you can do a better job
The purpose of a catch can is to catch escaped vapour/gas due to piston blow by. On all ICE gas escapes past the pistons/rings and creates pressure in the crank case( more so when the engine is fitted with a turbo) Normally this gas or vapour is routed to the inlet manifold and burnt off. When a catch can is fitted the idea is any oil residue that gets mixed with the vapour in the crank case is captured hence the term catch can. The advantage is it avoids fouling the the inlet valves and manifold and a cleaner burn/combustion. In my opinion a waste of time unless fitted to a brand new or rebuilt engine as on a old engine the damage has already occurred and a retro fitted catch can will not magically fix that. I've never heard of fitting a catch can to get rid of pipe work, it would be a lot cheaper and easier to replace any faulty breather pipes.
@@marktyler2396 Its a old tt. He just wants to declutter the bay and make it look nice. Hes got a brand new one, dont think he cares about audi's techs 20 odd years ago
@@andrewtognola1116 this has also pushed up the prices of second hand car too, but it is the main reason why I buy cars for just me rather than to sell on
I've looked into this and a major problem today is not all parts are available from Audi. A small amount of pipe work before and after the divert regulating valve is available and costs £104 + vat the remainder of pipe work and non return valves are no longer available So this option may be the next best thing ... There are cheaper items if this kit on eBay but not sure of the quality .so if anyone else has used one . Pls reply with feedback .
Apparently that way is the worst way to install a catch can, should have another t piece coming off the hockey puck, one way pcv valve fitted and reconnect to the nipple on the intake instead of blocking off.
Great video Paul But a complete waste of time fitting this to a 20 year old engine. The damage has already been done with the amount of sludge that has built up in the engine over the years its like telling a 70 year old to stop smoking the damage to his airways have already been done . If you where doing a complete engine rebuild then its a good idea , I have had 4 audis with this engine in it

Thank you for being the old video on UA-cam who takes odd the manifold 👍🏻. I finally feel like I'll be able to tackle this now

How often do you have to clean the catch can out? What do you do with whatever comes out of there?

do you plug all the vacume connections underneath manifold? or do we leave them open?

Might be cheaper to get a secondhand one from Ebay
Nice work Paul very well explained 👍
Thanks 👍
Paul there again well explained and loved the clips far better look. Will it make any difference to performance?
No, but there is a lot less pipework and no oil spraying over the engine
If you have pcv leaks you may notice better performance as not losing boost
nice one Paul very informative .
Well done and making good progress.
Good job Paul. Think you 🙏🙏🙏
it's a great kit, fitted to my 225
Thanks Paul great vid. I've got an 04' Roadster myself, but its the 180. Do you know if the mod is the same on the 180?
Yes it is
@@CarsForPaul Paul you say it's the same but happens with the non return valve for the brake boost assist ?
Nice one exactly the way I did mine great how to buddy 👍🏼😎

why do you need to fit a catch can when the makers does not feel one is needed when it went down the production line

Good feedback Phil, for me, I did this to get rid of the excessive and broken pipework thus stopping oil spraying in the engine bay.
