    Yup, that PCV system really is the root of all evil when it comes to a Mk1 TT. I ended up replacing the whole thing at a cost of £280, rather than go down the catch can route. Great info, as always, Dom. :-)

      Thanks buddy as always, luckily mine wasn’t too bad so a couple of pipes and probably £60 I’ll be back up and running. So it’s worth checking and changing when possible. But it’s nice to fit and forget for sure. I often to forget / get lazy to regularly check oil and water. Emptying and cleaning a catch can will never happen haha

    Hi,
    Just wondering what your thoughts are about removing the secondary air system thing I keep having fault codes because of mine, I've changed it once for a cheap Chinese ebay one it lasted a couple of months and the codes back again, if you think it's worth removing is there any chance you could do a video on it,
    Regards Mike

      @TheParrottBros  3 роки тому +1

      It’s a tough one as everything had it’s uses. There is loads of info on how to remove it on tt forum.co.UK. I don’t have one on the bam I’m afraid so wouldn’t be able to show what’s involved. .

      haha thats the fun of doing multiple jobs at once i guess haha, pcv can be done from above for sure just easier to film and explain how i had it, would recommend taking inlet manifold off though saves so much time and less fiddly

    Deleted my PCV for a catch can ages ago.
    The first empty of the can was a bit of a shock!
    Decided to delete it as the pipes were split (and I was removing all rubber in favour of silicone) and when I took off my twin intercoolers, I found 1L of oiley Mayo in each cooler 😲😲
    UK 🤞

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  3 роки тому

      That could also have been from a turbo failure in the past etc, the blue car I bought for parts had half a litre of oil sat in the cooler crossover pipe as the turbo was knackered. Often when people change the turbo they don’t clean the system out haha. I didn’t realise will it was too late and for a front full of oil 😂

    Hi I need some advise i have an audi tt roadster 2006 , and have had a problem with the dash clocks, the fuel gauge is working the wrong way round, I have had them sent off for repairs but came back faulty fuel gauge , everything else works, I Think! They also had to recode the key as the car immobilised itself, do you think its worth getting a new key?

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  3 роки тому

      It sounds more likely an issue with your clocks than your keys. Have you spoken to the place that did it and explained the issues?

      @@TheParrottBros hi yes the car has been in the garage for 6months, the clocks were really bad, flickering on and off speedo etc not working, the garage had sent the clocks off to be repaired 3 times! Just had the car back now, the repair place said the clocks are working fine so it must be a fault with the car, the car wouldn't start at one point I had to disconnect the battery then re connect fir it to start, drove the car back home yesterday all been well , but the fuel gauge is saying its full but its empty

    • @TheParrottBros

      @@beckykennerley3893 It could well be an issue with the sender in the tank, there is an easy way to see if this is the case, what does the screen say miles to empty is when the clocks gauge says half full ( when really empty)

    my zero experience self just changed my crankcase breather hoses/pcv stuff..I had a couple of the real replacement pieces but, ended up using an ebay silicone set..it was way too wide, had to cut off an inch from a couple pieces then it was workable..right until the last connection from PCV to manifold..my silicone hose end was twice as big as it should have been..my silicone tube opening is the size of a nickel and the one I took off was half the size of a dime..I just wrapped a bunch of duct take around the little protruding knob so the hose would fit better and clamped on that..I guess it works..better than the upper tube being in literally 2 pieces for several months..
    for the amount of stress and procrastinating I put upon myself with these fixes, it ends up being disturbingly easy for a completely untrained person to complete the job with minimal tools..I don't know if I like that or not..

    Hey Dom ! There's at least one split hose I can see under the inlet mani so I'm planning to take it off and patch the main problems up. Hopefully all in a day- I can't be leaving the car in bits on the drive all week.
    Are there any parts you'd recommend getting in advance? At the moment my list is only a new inlet mani gasket, oil resistant pipe (19mm?) and jubilee clips

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  2 роки тому

      It depends on what your panning on doing, are you going to run a catch can hence the 19mm pipe, all the original hoses differ in size.
      i would get a new elbow that comes out the crankcase, check if you need to replace your injector seals, some 3mm silicone vac line and some small jubilee clips as most of them use one use clips

      I'll also get a crankcase breather elbow and some 3mm vacuum line then. I have a bunch of jubilees already and have done the injector o-rings recently.

    Good explainer - I swapped mine out for the Catch Can setup (APX) - that gap is small on the BAM models, but on APX there's another set of lines in front of the elbow that make it a nightmare to get to 😂 I've noticed lately I have a fair bit of fresh oil over the front of my block - I worried that it might be the head gasket, however there's no smoke, car runs A OK and at normal temps - just a chunk of fresh oil over the block and fresh catch can piping. I've noticed there looks like a small pipe on the APX block behind the PCV elbow - could that, or anything else be to blame for the oil? I don't think it's the rocker cover as it all looks like it's happening below the intake manifold.

      Without looking it’s hard to say, if it’s definitely oil then could be the oil filter housing or the rocker, remember the air when driving can blow things different directions. Best thing is to clean it off and monitor it.

    I'm not keen on aftermarket engine mods, I've seen too many cheap/nasty solutions which have caused more bother than anything they've saved.
    However, the PCV does look brittle even though it works. I'll look to put in new PCV bits in the coming years.
    Great video.

    • @TheParrottBros

      I certainly agree with some things for sure. The Pcv system is pretty sturdy when new however when subjected to heat and oil over the years it softens the rubber up and makes the plastic very brittle

    • @petesky007
      @petesky007 3 роки тому

      @@TheParrottBros Thanks for the comment. I'm considering re-doing the PCV but with the Cloud 9 metal 90-degree join. However, the fact it seems "short" is less than ideal. I've seen some people absolutely slate the catch-can approach and if I have doubts then I revert back to the Audi implementation - even thought sometimes it's not perfect (according to experts, not me!).

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  3 роки тому

      @@petesky007 It is easy enough to overcome, I am just going to buy a small piece of 19 mm oil rubber line, and a small 19mm joiner. That will overcome the issue. You
      Can use a stock 90° bend, it will last 10 years without breaking I’m sure so nothing to worry about

    Got a Problem that my variabel chain tensioner keeps producing fault codes. Replaced it along with a new chain and both camshafts.
    After that i ve found that my rodbearings where destroyed. Changed them as well and checked the clearance with plastigage. Still somethimes the vct lets me down with some fault codes..
    Any suggestions?

    Just bought a 2001 TT with the a MU motor. It looks like my oil is a tan brown color and it is a little bit thicker than normal oil. My coolant level isn’t dropping and my coolant reservoir has clean coolant in it. I’m fairly certain it’s not a coolant leak. I just today ordered the new PCV valve system kit. Hoping that is going to work by taking the moisture out of my oil. Has anyone had this problem?

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  2 роки тому +1

      I would certainly start with the pcv system as super common for blocking, pipes splitting etc, that followed by an oil and filter then see where you are, cant say i know of too many common issues besides those

      Hey, so 150’s are perfectly fine, the roadster is heavier than the roadster I believe and if your looking to modify the engine it’s probably not the first choice. But if your looking for a nice fun drive, roof down and enjoy then it’s perfect
