    It's creators like yourself that always seem to reinvigorate my love for gaming. A combination of watching your videos and The Drifter's Broadcast has me playing Xcom 2 WOTC again and I swear every time I playthrough this game its better and better. Also, when I first started playing Xcom your old tutorial videos really helped steer me in the right direction. I remember very distinctly you covering a section about how to correctly identify and target enemies that will likely spend their turn doing actual damage that can't be reversed rather than engaging with a seemingly more dangerous enemy that will likely spend its turn doing something I can remedy my following turn. That really changed the way I not only played Xcom but really a lot of games. Long story short thank you for the content and keep it up, you're killin it.

      Yes! Every time that the animation doesn't load on time, I have that moment of near-panic thinking that I've missed.

    Well done! Interesting to see your strategy of engaging enemies as you go. I equip my guys with flashbacks, lost lures and mimic beacons (if I have one to spare) so I can just charge the exit.
    I also need to remember now that I have an Xbox Series X which doesn't crash the game once more than 10 Lost appear, I can afford to use explosives and summon them when I need to!

      I have to admit that I'm not usually quite this free with using explosives during an ambush but it felt like the right move as these encounters unfolded.

    Well done. I agree with reaper/ranger (or equivalent) team up. I always bond reaper with a ranger and they make one of my most effective pairs in missions in general (and ambush's as necessary). Good vid

      Thank you. It's been a good while since I've played a reaper/ranger combo in an ambush and it was almost stunningly powerful. And just imagine if I'd had free reloads for the assault because ammunition supply was arguably the biggest challenge when dealing with the lost.

    Looks like the hero classes remained the same, based on what's shown on the Reaper here.

      Yes. Someone mentioned in the comments that there is another mod from the same series that would have changed their abilities but I didn't know about it at the time and I don't think Syken did either.

    A well executed ambush, smoothly done. I enjoyed the bonus content

      Thanks, I really enjoyed this one and having the reaper opened up some options that I don't normally have on ambush missions.

    I really wish you had the ability to fire from and break concealment. The option would be nice

    Tactical question, TapCat. You say they are tracking you on these ambush missions. Is this in the vanilla WOTC, or in a modded version?
    Asking because normally, when ADVENT sees you, a cutscene is played, but if they do not see you and you are outside their detection radius, they would not 'activate'. At least this is my understanding, based on the fact that I have on occasion evaded the incoming ADVENT by breaking line of site and moving away (it helps if you start near a building). My way (if I do not want to engage) is to go up into a building, and as far inside as possible; this should prevent the incoming troops from seeing you and 'activating'.

    • @TapCat
      @TapCat  8 місяців тому +1

      It's true that most pods won't activate until they see you. But that doesn't stop the game from having them follow you. And it's been quite a while since I tried running away from the entry point of an ambush, but I distinctly remember those Advent troops following me once they landed and I believe they were doing it on the dash because I simply could not outrun them.
      And of course, there are enemies waiting in front of you, so if you keep running forward you will inevitably get stuck between the two and that's an infinitely worse situation than staying to fight that first pod when it lands.

    • @DEVAEGIR
      @DEVAEGIR 8 місяців тому +1

      @@TapCatMakes sense. I normally try and kill the pod, but occasionally the situation is sub-optimal (with rookies on mission, two instead of three, etc). Maybe it is how I do it: I go around, rather than straight for the extraction zone, stay inside buildings, dash as much as circumstances allow... I have no idea how the game's movement mapping works, so either I am avoiding the pattern, or have been extra lucky for my 2K hours of playing WOTC. :D Next ambush I'll move away on turn one, and a couple of turns in I'll go back and see what these guys are doing. You have made me curious about it.

    *On the way back to the Avenger, Ross is chewing on something*
    Marina: "Whatcha got there?"
    Ross: "Some Jerky I had leftover from the mission, you want some?" 🍖
    Marina: "Yes please, Im starving"
    Ross: "Sure, help yourself"
    *Ross hands Marina the bag*
    Marina: "Thanks Ross"
    *Marina grabs a large piece and just before she puts it in her mouth she stops and thinks for a minute*
    Marina: "Hmmmm" 🤔
    Ross: "Something wrong?"
    Marina: "Did you make this yourself?"
    Ross: "No my wife made it for me before I left"
    *Satisfied with the answer Marina eats the whole bag*
    Marina: "That was great, I wonder whats her secret."
    Ross: "You would have to ask her, I don't know how she makes Sectiod taste like that, but its damn good" 😊
    Marina: "It sure is---Wait, did you say Sectiod!?" 😱
    Ross: "Well yeah, the ship was out of Chryssalid" 🤨
    Marina: "I think I'm gonna be sick" 🤢
    What was funny to me about this ambush was that Sykens choices were based on that Ross was the only available Sargent, and Marina was boosted from the previous mission so he said "why not" but it resulted in a super OP combo on a mission that could have been insanely difficult. Reminds me of our previous campaign with Tex and Riggs

    • @TapCat
      @TapCat  8 місяців тому +1

      Agreed, it turned out to be an inspired choice to pair those two. I was a little anxious at the start of the mission because the reaper has such a small ammunition capacity and low base damage but the remote starts plus claymore made up for that and then some.
      I had a feeling the jerky was going to be something that Marina would find... objectionable, however delicious it might be. :)
