Rulers also dont get a move if you give the overwatch order. So put all but one soldiers on overwatch and have the last one attack the ruler. When the ruler makes its move, all other soldiers will shoot without triggering any further ruler actions.
I decided to look up tips on a whim and found your video posted a day ago. That’s incredible timing and thanks for the advice. One resistance order I’m running right now is lost instant kill. It helps for some of the five health enemies while my guns are still low damage output.
just bought all 3 dlc for £4 in a steam sale! LOADED UP A SAVE AND IT SAID I HADNT PLAYED SINCE 2015 LOL, SO I STARTEDD A NEW GAME, IVE NEVER TRIED THE DLC BEFORE
For the Resistance Orders, I'd add Infiltration (Reapers, timers don't start until you lose concealment) and Vultures (Skirmishers, enemies drop more loot) as really good ones. Detail to Tactical Analysis: Some aliens behave differently now, so be prepared for that. For example, Spectres and Stun Lancers will often shoot immediately, as they can't reach you. Sectopods, Gatekeepers and Archons in battlefrenzy have three actions, so they will still be able to move and attack. (I know Feedback (Templars, enemies take damage when using psionics on your squad) isn't that good overall, but damn if it isn't hilarious to see a Codex one-shot itself.)
Amazing video, I can’t find a single view expressed that I disagree with. It is truly amazing how hard it starts but how rofl it becomes with end game gear and multiple training centre upgrades. Love it❤
To add on to the lost point: I recommend saving explosives on a lost + alien mission, since they summon more lost and if you get overwhelmed with aliens you can pop two grenades and a lost swarm will show up, often distracting and sometimes dealing some damage to the aliens.
I have had this ame in my library for many years and never completed it. I recently started to play it again. I will try not to rage quit this time, and actually finish the game. Thanks for the video! :D
Yeah, I feel you. Just start a new camapgn if things go south, especially on harder difficulty.. You will need the first 5 mission to go pretty much flaweless
I just got roughed up pretty bad yesterday. I was about 6 hours into my first commander Ironman playthrough and, after a series of unfortunate events, had 2 squad wipes and I was left with only 6 pretty much rookies. Many lessons learned in this video and through my failure.
Regarding the "Eliminate the Field Commander" mission; I sent a lone Reaper through the sewers, found the general, one-shot him with Deadeye, and didn't break stealth. The Reaper is born for this type of mission.
During the assault of the chosen stronghold. All chosen behave differently when you confront them Assassin vanish and hide somewhere nearby. Warlock doesn't do anything when appear giving you chance to eliminate him before he use his ability. Hunter grapple out of your range. Put this in mind because chosens will do behave like this when they appear that means you can use battle scanner on a grenadier with salvo to a cloaked assassin. Shoot the everliving daylight at the warlock and JFK the hunter if you have more than one sharpshooters. This is because after chosens death the sarcophagus became vulnerable in couple of turn (depends on the difficulty) and regular enemies appearing every turn so destroy the sarcophagus as fast as you can while dealing with enemies. If the sarcophagus was destroyed the chosens will appear one last time with health percent of the turn it got destroyed i recommend bring soldiers that can deal damage as much as possible to all enemies every chosen has special abilities so look for ways to counter them
I decided I know the game well enough to not eliminate the chosen. Got through waterworld easy enough, but I was quite lucky in a way because the first one to come at me had the detection capability and was the assassin, so my usual reaper tactics were good for the whole end mission. The hardest part was the fact that she appeared right in front of the second pack of aliens, which included a sectopod, 2 heavy MEC and some troops. Separated her from them with the templars invert ability and had the templar retreat to high cover. Team was close enough to easily kill the flanked assassin and too far for the sectopod to be a real danger. Last chosen in the avatar room was warlock who was as harmless as always. Appeared on the opposite side of the portal room. He just gave my death from above soldier 4 more zombies to shoot.
I can attest, exploit the lost as much as you can in the early game because there will always be maps where your troops will be at a massive disadvantage almost making a wipe a guarantee unless you over watch in a corridor where troops/aliens haft to go to you through the zombies, just keep clear of the wall in case they try to make an opening.

I keep seeing alot of Xcom 2 Lwotc videos where people have soldiers who have alot of holes in their skills, ie 4:19 on the reaper hes showing for example. why is that?
A specialist with a skulljack/skullmine not only becomes better at hacking but bypasses armor and stasis if successful. 70% flat hit chance but also comes with an extra of more goodies on a hacker type. Don't sleep on flashbangs, smoke grenades, or just incremental bonuses from faction orders or world bonuses (increasing the effects of a PCS or equipment is tied to a continent bonus or a skirmisher order.) Given how loaded the dice are in XCOM 2 (and how it blatantly always knows where your stealth units are when within one blue move of them) consider XCOM Enemy Unknown/Within tips and tricks. This video does not prepare or adapt people on a tactical layer in and out of the missions between digging out your avenger and understanding the elevated threat from month to month. Perhaps my time in Long War between the two games has affected that capacity as the base game of both. (XCOM 1 will still beat you like an alcoholic step dad well beyond classic and impossible will be a trail of tears.)
I have played this game for so many hours. I have watched tips and playthroughs. Yet my results are not much different than when I first started. What I cant stand is the "RNG". You know when you have an 85+ chance to hit and miss and then you adjust and improve the aim and still miss. I know a 15% chance to miss is likely, but a 15% x10% chance? And the mission timer ensures that you will have to take these shots. And the better you do, the more unfair the game will get - literally adding extra reinforcements. You have to be a masochist to play this game. The best way to win is to quit and go spend time with your friends and family.
I didnt know you could just give up a dazed teammate to the chosen. On the 5th mission the assassin showed up and wrecked my ass that caused a wipe. Ironically it was on the hunt commander mission where i wasted a turn killing the advent general.
Yeah this one is counter-intuitive because it feels stupid to leave your soldier dazed. I believe your soldier can also be captured by the Chosen, but this is also better than having a wipe, as you can go and free them later in the campaign. The hunt the commander mission is like that - it puts you under a sort of pressure that induces you to make painful decisons.
I have not found the hunt commander missions to be too difficult. I don’t know if they changed them, but the general doesn’t run until the shuttle has landed. Usually by then I am camped around the shuttle, and so when the commander runs for it I kill him easily. I have had more difficulty with the protect the XCOM tower. It’s the one where you have an object that is being shot by enemies until you can get there and protect it. I find later in the game it gets blasted so quickly I don’t have a chance to get there in time.
@@OfficialPhdPepper It sounds to me like you are a meticulous player who takes their time rather than goes all guns blazing. It may be that your play style suits one mission over the other. My advice to protect the tower is to bring rangers, grenadiers and templars and go aggressive, rushing the early turns.

Templars not even worth it, I'll take a Skirmisher over them. I admit I thought they were better until I had them alongside my Skirmisher, I'll take a PSI over them
They can be worth it, if they are at a minimum gifted/genius as well as landing blade storm and reaper😂. All those other awesome super end-game skills in their main tree also won’t matter if they can’t afford them on their own, since shared AP is often best reserved else-where(reapers…). Can’t say I like skirmishers per say either, and if any turn up above average or standard too, I’d dismiss them just as easily, but rng keeps throwing me geniuses. And since they’re less rng dependant on their extra’s… gaining 4 out of only a possible 5 skills, I can almost always bet on tactical rigging and saturation fire, which isn’t spectacular, but still does much to fill out their swiss army knife like array of useful tools for every situation, even if their not broken OP.
I don't understand. All I have heard from this vid with the exception of soldier capture is just, common sense?
