Very informative. I've been consuming chia seed for a year now 1 Tbl spoon with my smoothie. My friend told me to overnight the seeds with my homemade almond milk that it's better. So that's I've been using.
I feel great my A1C is 5.9 from 7 it was before. Appreciate your hard work and dedication
Well done. It's a nice food with lots of benefits. I just want folks to not make the same mistake
I use 1 tablespoon and I leave it overnight and take it in the morning before breakfast with water. I had a bad experience the first time I tried it. I think I took too much. I felt nauseous and threw up everything I had that day.
Thanks Dr. I usually use them with my oat meal on mornings, should I also soak them prior to adding them to the oatmeal? Thanks again for the info.
@@beverlycadogan Yes, it will help to do so, Bev
@@wasilataudu3409 Yes, please start small and allow your body to get used to it before gradually ramping it up
I would stick to one teaspoon a day. Not tablespoons. I've always soaked the chia seeds overnight in milk. Just keep it moderate. 😊
A teaspoon is probably too small to have an impact on health parameters
I make a chia seed pudding with fermented coconut yogurt and add berries and bananas. I top it off with some organic sprouted walnuts!❤ I also make it at night so I can have it in the morning…
Nice
So glad I came across this, Dr.Joe.
I actually noticed that it does constipates me.
You're so welcome
Fact
I mill them, one teaspoon of organic chia and one teaspoon of organic flax seeds, mix them with water and place in the fridge overnight. I then add it to my organic natural kefir yogurt in the morning with the following organic nuts and seeds: hemp, pumpkin, walnut, brazil, pecan, ground almonds. I also drink plenty of water during the day
Thank you
@@drjoetvMD a pleasure, Doctor
What is your LDL number?
@@ginalee7704 I’ve no idea, but I feel great, lots of energy (I’m 60), I walk every day. I do have a blood test on 6th June. The last one I had was fine. I’m on an OMAD diet, no processed food, grass fed beef steak, pilchards (sardines), raw unpasteurised caraway seed sauerkraut, beatroot, broccoli, leafy greens (kale, etc), raw red onions, garlic, ginger, fennel seeds, cloves, goats/sheep cheeses (no carb ones), turmeric milk with goats milk, good quality EVOO, free range eggs. I also have a teaspoon of organic Ceylon cinnamon and a teaspoon of organic 100% Peruvian cacoa powder in the kefir yogurt (with those nuts and seeds I mentioned above). I also take a vit d3 with k2-mk7, camu camu (natural vit c), and lions mane in the morning with the food and magnesium citrate/bisglycinate, zinc citrate and super strength omega 3 a few hrs before bed. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink. I drink nettle tea, ginger tea, carbonated lemon water with a capful of organic apple cider vinegar with every pint (overall, about 2-2.5 litres of water a day + the teas), so plenty of fluids. Does that sound ok to you?
Thanks Dr. Joe, I heard about the unfortunate Chia seeds problem with that man in the news. I blend my Chia Seeds with water of course before I drink it, or I grind it in the coffee grinder, and add liquid, and then I wait for about 10 minutes before eating it thick, or drinking it, so I don't need to wait a whole hour.
Ugh! Maybe I should grind up the seeds before I drink the beverage. This is scary..

What would be the next option? Would Glucomannan be a safer alternative?
@@Zekeratt The video isn't saying don't eat chia seeds. It is simply highlighting what could go wrong if you use chia seeds inappropriately and I have given you precautions in the last half of the video on what to do. Simply follow those steps and you can enjoy your chia seeds safely
I think we should be careful when consuming any kind of seeds. If there are little pockets inside intestines then it could accumulate and cause problems. Blending it would make sense and always start small like dr. Joe says. Too much of anything isn’t good. Eat variety, eat small, drink enough water and move - that’s my motto.
Thanks for the information Dr. Joe. I was eating chia seeds in my oatmeal every morning. Few weeks after, i experienced the worst abdominal pain with gas. I couldnt lift my leg to the waist. I went to the urgent care and they did x-ray. They said i had gaseous distention with some hip problem. This abdominal pain continued for weeks . It isnt too painful now but my esophagus hurts when i swallow sometimes. I stopped using the chia aeeds because i thought that is what caused the problem. Very enlightening. Thanks for the information.😢

Are you better now? Just check for esophageal cancer - it's the fastest growing cancer in Western society, with similar symptoms to what you are describing.
Good video, nice explanation...
1.I take chia soaked more than 2 hrs.
2.Drink plenty of water thoroughout the day.
3. Great improvement in my LIPID profile

Thank you so much for this video I'm having this problem right now I went to the hospital and the doctor said I have a mass in my stomach. Hi Dr. Joe, this happened to me. I was taking 2 tablespoons of chili and I do drink a lot of water but I guess it’s not enough and I didn’t end up in the hospital, but I got really sick on the flight and I realized the only thing I was doing was Jessie and, I’ll be constipated for a minute but what I did I kinda use aloe vera stuff to clean my colon but this was good information and I did mention it to my doctor but she didn’t say anything. Thanks. Great information.
Thanks for sharing that, Camille

Hi Joe. Thank you for the valuable information. I like to chia seeds, but my consumption is 1 to 2 tablespoons a week in smoothies. My fluid intake is about 2 L H2O per day in addition to other fluid during my meals.

Hi Dr. Joe, thanks very much for the insightful information re: Chia Seed. I'm a daily user of the seed, and I usually sprinkle about two tips over my fruits. Going forward I will soak them. Thanks again 😊❤

Thanks Dr. Joe! Amazing, seems like many of the healthy foods come with some nasty side effects(beets, spinach, eggs, chia seeds). No wonder my doctor tells me just take the pill and eat what you want. I think I will just avoid chia seeds. It's not worth the risk. I have also been feeding them dry to my pet bird. He is a small parrotlet. He loves them No more for him either. I look forward to your next video!
Oh no! I've had pet birds for 40 years . . . Impacted intestines can kill them.
It's my job to let you know about significant side effects of foods we eat to keep you safe. I'm not sure I agree with your doctor though. "Just take the pills and eat what you want" he said. Hmm, Big Pharma pills are not side effect-free. Pull out any drug leaflet and read the list of side effects. It's as long as my arm
Don’t avoid them eat them correctly. I have been consuming them since 2019 and they are in normal rotation daily.
@@jackseve Yes, eat chia seeds. They have lots of benefits including cardiovascular health but just follow the safe steps outlined in the video and you will be fine

Thanks, Dr. Joe, great information.
You're welcome, Janice
Thanks for the warning . . .
I noticed that taking only ONE tablespoon of Chia seeds was more effective than taking more. As the saying goes; "less is better".
Also, I'd usually only let the seeds soak in a glass of water for 30- 40 minutes before drinking. In the future, I'll be sure I let it sit in water for at least an hour before consuming.
THANKS!
Great

I believe when I began consuming them they cleaned my system of fecal matter. Because when I did my detox the first stages that cleaned my digestive system didn’t happen. It went straight liquid and my system was already clean.

Thanks for the education. This is really helpful. What about including some amounts of chia seeds in bread?
You could but I'll suggest you include it as one of the wet ingredients instead of dry. So use the soaked chia seeds in the recipe if that makes sense
I use chia seed when baking muffins. I blend with milk and mix in with the rest of the wet muffin mix. Comes out great. I also drink lots of water as I consume lots of fibre.

I stopped using chia seeds three years ago. They did absolutely nothing in terms of satiation, they made me gag because of the gel like consistency, I can't do much of any milk of any kind especially cow and nut milks, and it took way too much time waiting for the chia seeds to be ready to eat safely. Thank you for the info but I left chia seeds and smoothies alone years ago.

Thanks for making us award.Dr Joe. I always blend chia and flax which minimize that problem. I know water is necessary for digestion. I have always been wondering.how much is enough as I don’t necessary drink gallons, but is guided by the colour of my urine. Is that wrong?
I like the urine guide. Indeed I did a video on it some years ago but when it comes to chia seed, drink plenty of fluid anytime you use them. They are very thirsty
@@drjoetvMD Ok Dr Joe thanks as always.

Yes, it's safer to soak them
Thanks Dr. Joe for this update on Chia Seed!
I appreciate your honesty as always. You always give it to us as it is.
I started consuming chia seed after you introduced us to it on this channel.
I soak 2 tablespoon in almond milk overnight and I add some nuts and then consume it because I like some crunchy texture.
I chew the nuts with the seeds.
Please let me know if I need to blend it even after soaking overnight.
Thank you Sir!
No, Tracy, what you are doing is fine. So long as you are soaking them long enough before consuming them, we're good. You may blend them if you want to but blending is not mandatory

Thank doctor. The 1 to 2 liter of water you said we should drink , is it everytime we take chia seed or per day. Thanks for your reply always
Every time you use chia seeds, yes, but it is good practice to drink about 3L minimum of fluid a day anyway. We tend to underhydrate ourselves a lot. In summer, drink plenty

I eat them dry, 1 tablespoon on an empty stomach. I never experience issues. They help me with constipation. I struggle to drink them when they are mixed with water, too slimy.
You are taking a risk there. The only reason you are getting away with eating them dry is because you are not eating a lot. Please soak them before use. Mitigate any risk
Eat with yogurt. Mix, let sit in frig, then eat yogurt and drink a full glass of water with it.
I take chia seeds 2 tbsp daily with tumeric powder, black pepper, and ceylom cinnamon. I do take a break ever so often and go back..I'm waiting to have lab work done to see if chia along with my other remedies have worked to lower by cholesterol without the use of pharmaceuticals
