    Great tutorial, thank you! Bibimbap is one of my favorites. I can't wait to make this and the Kkakdug kimchi.

    I had no idea bibimbop was so complicated! Some Korean cooks teach it like it’s just any combination of leftovers you might have in your fridge. Until today, that’s what I thought it was! Helen, you are a much more sophisticated cook than most. Thanks for enlightening me!

      Thank you 🙏 Yes, this is the traditional Bibimbap recipe with all the customary toppings. And when Korean eat bibimbap at home, we usually make it very casual with leftover sides dishes that we mix in or make only a few toppings to make it a simple BiBimBap. We also make seasonal BiBimBap with non-traditional toppings, too. Radish side dish called MuShengCheh BiBimBap So good together
      FYI - Bibimbap means ‘mixed rice.’

    This evening, I made chicken stir fry starting with olive oil, garlic and onions. Then added gochujang and then added the chicken. After well cooked, added veggies, bean sprouts, sweet snap peas ( sooo crunchy) and gochugaru w/ white rice. It was a big hit! We were all blowing our runny noses! LOL. :p. I added sesame oil, as per your directions, to the rice. It was delicious. Thanks Helen for all your insightful tips!!

    Thank you!! The breaking down of the ingredients both verbally and written formats allowed me to go to my local Korean market and get all of the ingredients (without sounding like a dummy! Well, I hope anyway hahaha!) For years, I've wanted to make my favorite Korean dishes at home but I didn't know what the ingredients were. The way they sound and the way they are spelled is not always similar. So I was intimidated to go try my luck.
    I've watched several of your videos and now have the perfect rice and banchan recipes (all now prepared.) I'm waiting on the bulgogi to marinate overnight. Cannot wait to put my bibimbap together tomorrow!
    [Of course, I DIDN'T wait - just had the veg and rice with gochujang sauce tonight with japchae that the deli had already prepared. YUMMY)
    I so appreciate you opening up your world of food for me!! Thank you!!!

      Michele Smith Hi 👋 @Michele Smith 🥰AWW...this makes me so happy🤩. I SO APPRECIATE your comment🙏. And I 🥰LOVE😍 that you ❤️ Korean cooking! BTW, you may already know this but BiBimBap, literally, is a casual/go-to-easy dish, ‘mix’ of leftover banchan/side dishes, so u did it right by having it with what u had😋👍😋. (TIP: If u don’t mind the calories, add a small spoonful of mayonnaise & sesame oil to ‘soften’ and add moisture to ur casual BiBimBap😉).
      (The BiBimBap recipe posted is a ‘traditional/full monty” recipe, like how it was made super fancy when it was originally served to Kings & Queens😉).
      Not sure if u have seen this yet, but here is my latest Kimchi Fried Rice video.

      @@ModernPepper thank you!! I will definitely continue to binge watch all of these videos!
      My husband had a to-go dish one time that was given to us by mistake. Its a funny story because I called them to ask what we had received instead and they said, "no, we never served you that!" It was rice cake stew (I always asked my waitress but said noodle instead so was always wayyy off! Your videos showed me that name, too!) Problem is that the stew did not have any fish/shellfish in it like the soondubu jjigae. I am trying to "adapt" that recipe you show. It LOOKS right but has the shellfish. Any ideas?

    • @ModernPepper
      @ModernPepper  4 роки тому

      Michele Smith I’m really curious what that dish might be, too😊. Since it tastes like rice cakes but the waitress called it noodles, it might be SuJaeBi (수재비)...? SuJaeBi is hand stretched/torn flour dough cooked in ‘clear/off white’ broth (sometimes the broth can be made from beef, seafood or dried anchovies).
      As for SoonDuBu Jjigae (spicy soft tofu stew, it can be made w pork, beef or seafood, and a combination of all three).
      What a conundrum about the mystery take-out order🤣😭😂

      @@ModernPepper well, I improvised, and all thanks to your videos, it came out perfect! I took the basic stock recipe, added diced carrots, zucchini, radish, onion, and garlic and tteppongi noodles, merin, plus with 1 cup of hot pepper sauce from bibimbap recipe. Delicious!! My husband says this is just like he remembers!

    • @ModernPepper

      Michele Smith Aww...so happy to hear that ur husband loved it👍. It sounds delicious😋. Next time u make it, please take a photo of it and post it on ur social media and tag @modernpepper. I would love to see ur creation and also curious what teppongi noodles r😎. This Spicy Seasoning Sauce is tastier to use for soups and stews than the BiBimBap sauce. Try this sauce next time🙏😋🙏. ua-cam.com/video/xQR-WNzRiuw/v-deo.html

    I think Korean cuisine is one of the most delicious food on the planet. I also think that Korean women have such beautiful skin, and really know how to cook! This is one of my favourite dishes. • @ModernPepper

      👋Karen Benavente 🙏Thank you🙏. Yes, u r correct🤗 The non-spicy soybean paste mixing sauce is NOT a traditional BiBimBap sauce. I made this non-spicy version, in addition to the traditional spicy mixing sauce, for those who do not enjoy spicy sauce. I’m faced with the same probably at home with some of my family members loving spicy food and others not being able to enjoy it🤪
      Me, too! Bellflower/DoRaJi/도라지 is so yummy both non-spicy, and also made spicy and tangy🥰

    In the summer I plant Korean zucchini cucumbers sesame plant so I use the leaves with salad leaves so I can put my stuff on it and eat it.I do plant another plant i don’t know the name but I pick the leaves satay for a minute take it out trow sesame oil and seeds and eat it.I love it because it’s very crunchy and different. I think I would learn alot from your cooking, i hope I don’t become a Korean wouldn’t be bad? I don’t like to use the microwave so I have two pots the one you show us and a smaller it keeps your food hot longer.

      @@ModernPepper Thank you for the reply, i've seen several videos online and i made it myself, it came out a bit too sour for my taste and higher in alcohol than the one i can get in Korea town. @ModernPepper  4 роки тому +1

      Bruno10189 Wow...SO IMPRESSIVE😊. In my opinion, making makgeolli is an art-form that requires delicate handing of so many variables. It needs to be babied and attended to with precise control of temperature and such. And of course, ingredients & it’s quantities. I will need to do precise recipe tests so I can share the exact recipe & instructions. I will work on it but will need some time😉

    I have loved this dish from a Korean Restaurant, and I would love to make it. I really don't like sesame seeds. Does it ruin any Korean food if it is left off? Would it be rude to ask for it to be left off at the restaurant? I love your teaching.

      @ModernPepper  4 роки тому +2

      👋Pam Z. Thank you for watching and making BiBimBap with me🙏🥰🙏. Leaving out sesame seeds will not ruin it at all. When you are at a Korean restaurant, ask them nicely to leave out any sesame seeds from your dishes.
