    Do you think we could vaporize fuel before it gets to the injectors on a modern car and get the same effects?

    • @MrDanielSoliz
      @MrDanielSoliz  Рік тому +4

      No not before the injectors, we are working on a modern fuel injection engine and it will use fuel injection.

    • @jamesritchie8540
      @jamesritchie8540 3 місяці тому

      Direct port injection is really the worst way to feed fuel…. No time to vaporize and mix properly with the air…. This is why Smokey said a cross flow intake would be hard to beat…. Plenty of time to properly mix the the air fuel charge

    I can't believe a hot rodder knew when and how to make his own emulsion tubes. Like what? Even the engineers that made them don't explain how they work. Wild ❤

      Yep, Pre-ethanol days. I get NON-Ethanol fuel in S. Central Tx at the pump at all (2 letter gas station chain, capital Q., capital T.). All inner pumps that Don't have diesel, will have a left side mounted, red-handled nozzle of 90 or 91 octane gasoline. I use it exclusively for my Master fuel cans, with a famous fuel stabilizer plus a famous old school red oil/fuel additive (initials MMO). Sorry, I have to write in "code" because YT has censored my messages if I say the business names or product names directly. Thanks Danny for the awesome Smokey content! A Smokey technical junkie since the June '84 Hot Rod article. Paul from S. Central Tx.

    I am really interested in what Smokey was saying in Fayes trailer... That you couldn't just use gasoline as it would detonate. Had not picked up on that before.

    Important wiestion, why did yunick put a 4 barrel air cleaner on a 2 barrel carb. The extra work seems wasted considering the same air cleaner was available for 2 barrel carbs. Was it to make more parts of the carb top accessible to specific temp of air?.

    Is there anyway you could show us the 1stage fuel heater? It it basically a heat exchanger that lets warm engine coolant pass on one side and then the fuel air mix on the other before entering the turbo or homogenizer? Are you guys here in Texas? I’m down in Aransas Pass.

    • @MrDanielSoliz
      @MrDanielSoliz  2 роки тому

      On my next video, you can see it more , yes it’s basically a heat exchanger and we are in Texas.

    I didn't see you take out the power piston spring. We use to use various springs to get the desired results. We would pull out the power piston spring plug on the top cover and fine tune the metering rod depths. I noticed there was no hole drilled in the plug to assist in removing the plug which I think is odd on a carburetor that would be highly adjusted. Back in the day I would build at least one Quadrajet a week.

    • @MrDanielSoliz
      @MrDanielSoliz  2 роки тому

      Smokey calibrated this carb so I didn’t want to change the settings. 👍👍👍

    • @mikegoodman447
      @mikegoodman447 2 роки тому +1

      @@MrDanielSoliz I have seen thin metering rods like that on the back barrels of some Quadrajet carburetor, not on the front. With thin straight pins the power valve would have very little effect on fuel richness. In effect it would be rich most of the time depending on jet size.

    Smokey didn't just use a carburetor but a whole system.
    He first use the water from the cooling system to help heat the water to engine temperature of 220* and was the first stage of the heating system
    The Second stage of heating was at the Turbocharger were it was heated by using exhaust before going into the intake manifold.
    The 3 stage of heating was done in the Intake manifold and rase the airfuel charge to 440* before being induced into the cylinder.
    It was said it took 20 minutes before the air/fuel charge would separate.
    But in the normal English The Air/Fuel will separate faster than you can Puch a stop watch.
    I think the nomad Temp of the intake manifold is only around 150* but recheck the Data as it's been years since i have read the Original story in popular science or popular Mechanics.
    There was another story of a guy called
    Tom Obga ? Spelling. In El Paso Texas were he was pulling gas fumes from the gas tank in a ford LTD if i remember correctly
    He said at first the car's MPG were not All that impressive and the car would stall as well.
    He said things change one day after he put his hand on the gas and found it Ice cold. Witch is one of the laws in Physics because the Air pulled through the gas cause it to Evaprat and cool down the Gas.
    He installed a heating unit kind of like a heater core and said that change everything because now the fuel will be heated to the cooling system of the engine.
    When you look at the first photos of the car's vapor system the pipeling is coming out the Gas door and along the side of the car.
    In his later work the system is run under the car and the carburetor was removed and only hot gas vaper was getting to what would be the throttle valve.
    You can look up his story about him and people who said they went on a test drive and got a 100 MPG in the big Ford
    Thanks for posting you never know when you are going to spare an idea

      That's great I have heard stories over the years and spend time listening to them and hear a lot of things that seem based on solid evidence
      Can't wait to see the videos as you never know when you may just spark an idea on the mind of someone keep up the good work.
      I love the Carb over EFI because of the simple trouble shooting and ease of repairs
      Thanks

      Smokey at one point wanted to make an engine where heat couldn't escape so that all the heat had to turn the crankshaft but obviously there are problems with that idea. But speaking to fuel engineers he learned that gasoline was more homogeneous at 276degrees (perhaps not true today) and that if heated to this temperature would not knock as easily and may ignite leaner in the engine which is a problem when trying to run an engine hot and also lean so as a compromise between his "engine in a box" idea and a conventional he designed a system where fuel/air from the carburetor was passed through a turbocharger which he dubbed a "homogenizer" and then with a manifold heated by exhaust (not too dissimilar from some boat combined manifolds on reverse flow inline heads if someone wanted to recreate this effect in an available engine) and the exhaust flow through the intake manifold was temperature regulated for an intake temperature around 276 degrees (I'm going from memory, it may have been a different temperature, I don't have his book on hand) and this heated and homogenized and pressurized by the turbocharger fuel/air charge was then burned in the engine. There weren't any details about camshaft or combustion chamber mods other than that it had a special camshaft. The turbo was supposed to have been sized to limit boost and not wastegate regulated. So to make the engine run as intended might be an experimental nightmare. But his fiero got Prius like economy numbers and was said to be faster than a normal fiero. I know one of the engines was supposed to have been a v2 based on a Buick V6, but when he went to Chrysler they were working on an i4 probably based on their 2.2 k platform engine that had a reverse flow head. That carburetor is basically a standard Rochester dual jet which is probably jetted lean and the tapered rods are probably so exaggerated to give it a rich startup before vacuum pulls the rods down. It's not a vapor carburetor, it was a "hot vapor" engine. The heat and homogenized atomization come from the turbo and specific heat regulated manifold.

    You guys are looking in the wrong place , vapor won’t come from that carburetor it’s vapor fuel before it gets to the carburetor, that carburetor will only be used to open the throttle and let the vapor fuel get into the intake manifold, your just showing a regular carburetor you won’t get 100 mpgs, by the way remember Tom Ogle 915 Chucos best, Rams 100mpg

      @@MrDanielSolizsi! Es q el sistema crea su magia después de la atomizacion de la mezcla verdad? Utiliza etapas de calor y x último el homogeneizar o ( turbo) como una válvula anti retorno al sistema asegurando la llegada de vapor caliente y a cierta presión a los cilindros?
