The moment Batman pointed a gun in Batman beyond has always stuck with me as one of my favorite moments for the character. I first saw it as a little kid, and even then I felt shocked at seeing him point a gun at someone, that’s just not something Batman does. The bastardizing of Batman’s character in the Snyder films makes me shed a tear every time I revisit that moment

That’s why in the Arkham series they called it a Grapnel instead of a grappling gun
the reason batman doesn't use a gun is because he knows his rage takes control of him and if he takes out his rage in hand to hand combat he is less likely to kill someone thats why whenever you see him pick up a gun he snaps it in half so he doesn't have the urge to use it
In the Dark Knight movie continuity, batman had guns on the Batmobile and Batpod not to fire at people, but to destroy obstacles and barriers. You see him use the guns earlier to blast a hole in a pile of rubble, and it's presumed that that's the sort of thing they're there for, not for shooting people with.
What one of my favorite parts is that Batman doesn’t trust people, even the Bat family. He claims to not trust anyone. He also hates guns and doesn’t allow them in Wayne manor. Guess who has a shotgun? Alfred. Batman can’t help but trust Alfred and this is proven by him allowing Alfred to have a shotgun.

In the Arkham Knight, the Batmobile has a Tank Mode BUT... he has never used it to kill anyone.
The Batmobile in this game has a Vulcan Minigun, 60mm Cannon, Missiles, non-lethal riot suppressors, EMP, Drone Hacking, and a Power Winch.
He only uses the Vulcan Minigun and 60mm Cannon on UMGs.

This is all I have been watching lately, gaining random facts about comic books so I can show my knowledge to my friends and family... I regret nothing
I would really like that retconned into the canonical history of Batman.
He's always had an aversion to guns, he might have even started packing early, but after a near miss that almost claims a thugs life, he changes to rubber bullets and eventually gives them up entirely, finding that most of the things he uses a gun for (hitting targets as opposed to people) he can just throw a batarang with equal accuracy
The gun itself isn't bad, it's just a tool. What makes it bad is the person behind the gun. In the wrongs hands, a gun can be a threat. But this is my opinion.
I think that's why some people say guns don't kill people, people do.

That logic is of course correct, but only practicable to a certain degree. No one argues that everyone should have nuclear weapons because they are just tools. (that example is just to show the extreme case of "guns don't kill people" since by that logic nuclear bombs, poisonous gas and so on don't kill people either)
The issue is that guns make it too easy to kill people, and Batman doesn't trust himself with that temptation.

I always figured that him having guns on his vehicles was one of those thingss where, if he is forced to use his vehicles as a weapon, whatever he's fighting is very likely not going to be killed by them. I.E. every time he's used missiles on giant robots, bases, etc
Guns are good in the right hands but if Batman was to use a gun you'd think he'd make his own bullets from non lethals to special bullets like maybe a tranquilizer or emp he's batman he could do it somehow

batman more often than not use gadget with gun funtionality, may it be a emp-rocket launcher, a tranquilizer gun, and such, but those are very rarelly capable of doing letal damage, at least to their original target.

Im pretty sure the guns on his vehicles (although potentially deadly) are used to destroy terrain or other vehicles.
The only reason he doesn't carry guns is because that if accidentally misuse it, it might kill someone.
The weapons on the vehicles aren't mean for people necessarily. They're meant for taking out other vehicles, clearing obstructions, breaching, they're less of a weapon and more of a utility

While I agree Batman beyond is the best time Batman used a gun I feel Final crisis is an underrated 2nd pick. It’s a really cool moment that is totally believable. Batman making 1 exception once to save potentially all of the universe is a trade off I feel Batman would agree too.
My opinion on why Batman’s vehicles have guns are so they can slow down any other vehicle that he is chasing otherwise he could only barge into them which in comics would do nothing to any type of vehicle except bikes now and again

Something I never really took in about the Beyond Batsuit, yet never forgot: That 10:1 figure on the strength ratio.
That means that Batman, in that scene, was trying his level best not to tear those hostage takers heads off as he punched and kicked them in a suit that (despite his age) is still amplifying a Batman punch ×10.
Even Terry, as a young man, often didn't seem to punch right to me, every now and again. He throws his whole body into an uppercut that usually doesn't seem like he's trying. Again, holding back as opposed to tearing someone's head off on accident. It actually explains some things in retrospect, like how he would like to fly into people with two fists and rocket feet.
Like he's getting desperate,but he doesn't want to kill someone in his desperation, so he throws his whole body at them on rockets because that is *actually* less dangerous for them then him trying to control a suit powered punch in a panic.
Also what pissed me off about Return of the Joker, during their fight. It's like,
"I know everything Batman knew," essentially a Joker with Batman combat training, and yet he can over power a person ten times stronger than him (just *catches the punch!)*

Rubber bullets/Bean bag rounds are non-lethal take-down devices. The delivery method is using a striker on a primer to launch the round, and that device is a gun. I am sure he would be quite fine with tranquilizer rounds or other methods of non-lethal engagement. He might not use them, be he wouldn't really criticize because he knows the difference between them.
Rubber bullets don't count, but yes he should've included the panel/scene where he shoots a mutant, he didn't kill her though.

I think Frank Miller did this to point out and make fun of how a lot of the time batman would beat the fuck out of someone but not kill them, even though in reality a beating that brutal would kill a human in real life. BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY! A COMIC THEORY!

it's not the guns that are bad, it's only the person who uses it. Guns can even be used to defend the innocent and stop bad guys, if used correctly.
I don't think it's so much "guns bad" as it is "A dude with a gun killed my parents and it screwed me up for life, so I just don't like using them", in Batman's case.

Honestly my personal favorite is the Batman Beyond version, the animation is so good that you can just tell by the look on his face he's having vietnam flashbacks to that night in the alley, imagining himself in the shooters place, and that absolutely terrifies him
The Batman Beyond example was my favorite. It really showed his character. Also, the vehicles have weapons mostly for anti vehicle purposes. IMO.
One thing worth mentioning is that in arkham knight the tanks batman blows up are drones- so they don't have anything inside them. Also, when he shoots the thugs, those are just knockout impact bullets

In Arkham knight, the batmobile has a side option in the armory as bullets that just puts people unconscious. He only used the other weapons at the drones which had no one in them.

I like to imagine Batman actually 'uses' guns... just as a hobby at a shooting range or on the odd hunting trip with one of the Robin's as a 'family bonding' and the like.
Makes sense for him to bend the rule a bit for vehicular weapons. Sometimes he’ll be forced to face heavier vehicles/hard targets that simply cannot be defeated otherwise. To put it simply, he couldn’t imagine turning a gun on a human being, but he has slightly less qualms using one to shoot out a truck’s engine or disable a nigh-invulnerable giant robot
The guns on his vehicle never is used on human life. He uses it as a tactical advantage like blowing down walls or machinery... on the Video Arkham Dark Knight Arkham Knight even indicates that the the tanks are remote control. And if he does shoot he's gun at a actually person they are beanbags

I think the reason Batman has guns on his vehicles is so he can effectively stop and or fight other vehicles with guns on them. Also it probably helps to have a tank for a car when you need to literally fight a god!

Well for the guns in Batman's vehicles I believe that most of them do not have lethal ammo. Such as rubber bullets or bean bags to neutralize the target. Also their mainly used for difficult opponents that he normally can't take down on his own.

i always just assume that batman has guns and other weapons on his batvehicles because, killing aside, theyre still useful for other purposes, pop out a tire, fuck up an armoured vehicle, disable a jets thrusters or wings or something like that, blow through a wall, if you think about it guns have uses besides killing and thats probably why he has weapons like that on his vehicles

I think Needlemouse forgot about all the vehicle -ground and airborne- altercations Batman has to go through in which guns on the Batmobile are absolutely imperative.
Now you might be thinking, "Why doesn't Batman either run down the vehicles he's chasing or find an alternative way to stop them in their tracks?" But just remember; these are comic books. There is always going to be someone who outclasses Batman in one way or another. Like Bane in the strength department or Riddler in smarts. Vehicles are just another means. Like in The Batman, (which came out way after this.) Chasing Cobblepot would have been leagues more efficient if he had some way of taking his car down from range. But he didn't have this, something he definitely remedied after the fact.. Admittedly, the car chase was absolutely epic, but still.
And in the case of Arkham Knight, (which did come out before this.) Batman was being influenced subtly by the Joker knocking around in his psyche to place more and more weapons on the Batmobile and to deck out the car. Joker was still rooted too far into his mind to come out then, but he was still there. And even then, Batman has never killed anybody with the weapons. He only ever uses Riot Supressors in the case of thugs or Militia needing to be taken down or the Vulcan Cannon or Tank-Busting Rounds or Electromagnetic Pulses or Rockets (Jesus fuck Batman.) To take down the drone tanks of the Militia. In the case of normal thugs he usually does just run them down. Though comparing some rusty car to the Batmobile would be the equivalent of comparing a 9mm to an Ion Cannon, or somewhere close.
In the case of the Snyderverse, well, Snyder is just an idiot who doesn't know jackshit about Batman. He's diluted himself into thinking he knows better on who Batman would really be like then the *GODDAMN SOURCE MATERIAL*
he pulls from do. Now, of course, alternative invisionings of Batmen who do kill are never unwelcome, Flashpoint Batman being the most famous, but it's only when you screw up the fundamental basics of Batman in so many regards that the only thing that even comes close to being accurate is his name in which such adaptations aren't welcome. Flashpoint Batman actually has a reason to kill, Snyder's Batman doesn't.
In conclusion: Batman really either has no choice in having guns on his vehicles or needs them in order to be generally more efficient in terms if fighting crime in ways he simply can't alone.

I think it comes down to lethality, if he can use a gun without killing or maybe even just hitting in living person he's fine with it, but guns have a tendency to escalate the situation so he's still not going out of his way to use them, only having them on his vehicles as they are far more efficient at crippling an opponents vehicle than any other gadget he could think up... Though now that I think about it that only really became a thing post dark Knight, I mean I only know of Adam West's Tim Burton's batmobiles prior to that, but neither of them had guns that I can remember, though the batplane might have.
I think it's more of... "I don't want to use guns to kill" as im fairly sure in every situation when he held one that he didn't fire he most likely would of used it.
Once I saw the premise of this video, I knew the Batman Beyond episode would be #1

I don't know I do think sometimes the situation call's for it otherwise he just looks stupid, but for Bruce makes sense in a trauma sorta way, but it doesn't always go with the gothic setting, maybe make it a obstacle to get around because he throws things people he teams up with use them and kill. I feel the no gun rule applies to using it on a person as in the movies he has used guns just not on people
About the Batmobile, I think he switches to rubber bullets when firing humans and the real bullets are for things like cars or tanks or people that can withstand bullets. Not sure where I heard that from but yeah.

A gun _is_ useful as a self-defence aid, but I don’t think Batman ever should. He’s at a level where he almost always doesn’t need to.

To be fair, the reason why the Batmobile is basically a tank in the Batman: Arkham Knight game is because Joker was subconsciously influencing Batman to be more violent, which caused him to add more firepower to the Batmobile. In earlier games, specifically Batman: Arkham Asylum, we can see that the Batmobile doesn't have guns.
I always figured the guns on vehicles were for utility use or use versus meta humans who could take it. In The Dark Knight Returns he straight up fires machineguns, tank rounds and missles at Superman as well as uses a sonic gun that hurts supermans super hearing.
What did he use in his Batmotank in Arkham Knight?
