Wow video from over 2 years ago. It was great. Most all videos I watch are by car and they only show the road straight ahead. I love how you show side views and I never knew you can go under the bride like that. And seeing the rays in the water was a real treat. I'll Have to check out your other videos now. Again this was a Great Video!
@@albertojhernandez169 at Mike marker 40 there's work on the trail so you'll have to take the bridge. Just take the lane it's about 100 yards long just after Bahia Honda bridge. Also some construction @ mile marker 4 coming into Key West. Diverts you to the other side of the road. Other than that it all looked pretty clear. What time do you plan on leaving?
I would like to do that one day. Problem is there are many bars along the way. I would have to stop in at one and that would be the end of my trip. Why exactly is 7 mile bridge infamous. I guess it would be tough crossing Moser Channel on a bike.
For winds I used this website to forecast my ride. www.windmapper.com/FL/forecast?Loc=FL. You also have to take into consideration how hot, dry, and humid you want it to be.
It's actually not bad. Mostly on trail or the bridges with a decent bit of shoulder (not so much on 7 mi). I'm hoping to do it again soon. I've invested in a Garmin Varia 515. So now I at least know when the road behind me is open and/or when someone is approaching.
You are very welcome. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. I'm trying to figure out when I'm going to make another run. Maybe this time from Miami and make it a two-day ride.
Yes you will cross 7 mile bridge. Om all bridges you ride the shoulder, there's plenty of room. In general the trail parallels the main road going down. It switches sides all the way down.
Typically the winds this time of year East to West. So go from Key Largo. I use this site www.windfinder.com/forecast/north-key-largo Also I just did this ride again over two days from Miami. Trails are better, but you will find sometimes the trail will take you across the road only to end. Then you'll need to get back over and ride the shoulder. All drivers seemed very respectful of us cyclist on this last trip.

Tried emailing you but says it's an invalid email. Was living in WPB from 2018-2020 but never did the ride and I'm kicking myself in the butt everyday for not doing it when living so close. Would love to do this ride. I really like how you guys did it and broke it up in sections. My type of ride.

Yes it's not a problem. I recently ride from Miami to KW in two days. I split it up with the first day being 110 to marathon and the last 50 the next day.
@@wendilei6443 rule of thumb. You should be able to ride in one day what you ride in one week. I'd suggest getting at least two long rides back to back in a week. Work your way up to where you can handle 50 or 60 miles back to back. Then you should be ready. During the ride take a break every 10 miles or so have a snack & drink plenty of liquids.
Enjoyed the video! I've been thinking about this ride for several years and plan to do it Nov 2021. I've ridden previously from South Beach to North Key Largo so I am planning to start there and take two days stopping in Marathon. Any updates to the roads/route since this video?
The roads are actually in better shape since my ride. Most trails are clean and free of Debris as of February 2021. There was construction going to Key West going over the bridge, but I would think that's complete by now. I too plan on riding this again soon. I'll probably take the Amtrak over from Tampa and ride from the Station. I'm thinking 2 days as well.
Thanks for sharing. Im going to do the ride somewhere in the next 45 days. Need to complete before the time changes. May need that hour of daylight! I had some questions if i could ask. Did you stay for a night in key largo before you started? I m going to need to rent a bike and will have a rental vehicle to get to key largo. I want to start at first light . Im Assuming you rode back to key largo or did you rent a vehicle ? Any suggestions on where to stay in KW . Thanks
I stayed overnight in Key Largo at the Armory Dive Resort (it was cheap, and did the job,). Left my car near there at the Carribesn Club, it has a boat ramp and you can leave your vehicle there for a couple of bucks a day. We began riding @ 5:30 am. We stayed in KW for two days with our bikes and rented a truck to go back up to Key Largo. If I we're to do it again, I'd ride back up.
@@freeandfast3689 I haven't gone yet. Combination of Covid restrictions and getting my house ready to list for sale pushed the trip back. April/May is the new projected trip date. I will post details when I complete
I think I rented it at Enterprise. The challenge for us was that we rode over Easter Sunday and there was no place to return the vehicle in the Keys because they were all closed for the Holiday.
Are there any digital maps, phone apps, etc. you would recommend for staying on the bike path, using side roads to avoid narrow sections of US1...or is it all easily found along the way? Also any bike rentals in Key Largo you suggest using?
The paths are well marked. I'd provide my own GPS path, but at the time there were some trails still under repair that required a bit of doubling back. I believe these are all fixed now.
