Your title, oasis of freedom, resonates with me deeply. When my husband asked me why I wanted to leave California for Florida, the first thing that came into my mind was...freedom. These past two years have just heightened my resolve to not submit to absurd ritual enslavements. The other reasons were ...warm water, Pittsburgh childhood friends retiring to Florida, closer to my sister, room to explore by car, Latin music among others. Bizarrely, I love heat and humidity and land that is flat pleases me somehow!

As a Florida native, love the natural beauty of the keys, hate the fact that over the past 20 years Key West has become an overpriced tourist trap where people who work the hardest serving food, drinks, hotel staff, etc... can't afford housing on the island. Enjoy watching your videos of the keys from north Florida!

I remember visiting the Keys when I lived in ft. Lauderdale 45 years ago. Was much nicer. Less crowded, less developed.

Yes! I lived in Ft. Lauderdale 35 years ago and would go to the Keys all the time. Plenty of openness and quaint stuff. Lots of owner-operaters of establishments. Not crowded. Now it's packed, franchised, expensive and built up.
Ft. Lauderdale is the same too. I never did like Miami.

I have stayed at the "24 North" Hotel twice. The free transfer to Duval Street is great.
I looked the rates of then24 north and their rates are $442 per night no 80$ or so.?

@@TampaAerialMedia Probably the best videos ever done on Florida hot spots. You deserve to be paid well by the Florida Travel industry. I have traveled all over the United States, and Florida has a lot to offer. My favorite spots are, the Keys, Key West, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Palm Beach, Everglades, Sanibel island, Orlando, St Augustine, Clearwater, I'm sure there are some great areas I have not seen. Unfortunately I'm getting old now and recently found out about the fresh water springs. Wish I knew about them when I was young.

I used to live in Key West. Every time I go back I bump into Kenny Chesney, and always get to hear him play some of the local bars, which is cool. He's a genuine, and very sweet guy...

A great video of what I call World's End (Key West). It is a place like no other and you captured the eclectic laid back atmosphere. I usually stop at Hogs Breath Saloon. A ghost tour is interesting which includes a night tour of the fort and meet Robert the doll. Key West has everything for every visitor. Happy New Year!

WoW! The most comprehensive survey of Key West I have seen. I was stationed in Key West for training with the U.S.Navy in the 1971-1973 time frame (closed sonar school 1974) (Yes, I remember Crazy Ophelia's little espresso cafe and Jimmy Buffet was in the neighborhood bars). Commercially, Key West seems to have grown so much since then!

It's been a long while since I last visited when I retired from the Navy: they had two bases there then. I really appreciate your take on reasonable lodging options since I'm not the Ritz Carlton type; the place has gotten expensive! The Turtle Kralls restaurant has been there for many years. The moped is plain smart if you can keep from getting hit; a car is a liability with the crowds.

I was just there back in May. Pro Tip. Don't watch the sunset from Mallory square ... walk to the end of the square and head up the stairs at the pier house. You get a great view without the crowd.

We went 3 weeks ago, & ate at the Mexican Cafe you mentioned. Service took forever that night, so we missed the sunset 😞

Another fantastic tour! My sons and I sailed the Marquesa to the reef to do some snorkeling. Amazing! Stayed at the Angelina Guesthouse, and while I don't think it was pet friendly, did have a resident cat named Finn that roamed as freely about the place as the little curly tailed lizards 🦎. We viewed most of our subsets at Truman Square where the Coast Guard cutter museum ship is docked. Loved Key West and can't wait to go back!

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and were nicely surprised by its beautiful location, pool and Tiki Bar and a free shuttle to the brewery which is a short walk to Duval St
.
