The concept of it was really good in theory, but it really could’ve executed better. Like you’re telling me that really nobody saw a big, chunky, 7ft man sneaking right behind a guy who’s like two feet shorter? And judging by the direction they were facing, it makes it even more unbelievable. Like why not have Shao utilize his magic he was implied dozens of times that he could use? Why not have Shang Tsung kill him with his magic? Hell, why not have Mileena or even Skarlet kill Kung Lao by either teleporting behind him and biting his head off or using his own blood against him? That way it can make either one of them finally get a W in this stupid, devoid of logic timeline and it can kill off Kung Lao in a way more believable, unavoidable way.
Problem is , it makes Shao Kahn a petulant crybaby rather than a badass evil emperor. Hell, if they made him smirk at Kung Lao's prowess and then fight him to show how overpowered he is before executing him, then it'd be meaningful and threatening.

I always found it hilarious how, throughout most of the game, Kitana genuinely thought that her father Shao Kahn, conqueror of worlds, owner of slaves and gladiatorial arenas, with a policy of honor in death after failure, was a benevolent ruler and loving father and thus revealed to him Shang Tsung's cloning experiments of her because she thought that he, Shao Kahn, conqueror of worlds, owner of slave armies and dresser of eomen in skimpy outfits, with a policy of absorbing the souls of the people he kills, would disapprove of such inhumane experiments done behind his back (Shao Kahn placed the order in the first place) Like, she's not even brainwashed in this continuity. She genuinely believed all of that for ten thousand years (or one thousand years, idk anymore. F*ck you MK11)
@@stefanradebach2889 if you know the lore, and you're asking why it's now one thousand years instead of ten thousand years like in the original, it's because Aftermath made it seem like Shao Kahn conquering Edenia, taking Sindel and Kitana as his wife and daughter and Sindel's death all happened a thousand years before the start of the series rather than ten thousand years, like in the original timeline/lore If you're asking instead how can it be that it's one thousand years, canonically all other realm denizens live for thousands of years.
What makes you think that Shao Khan would approve of Shang Tsung making monstreous clones of his daughter behind his back? That's the situation that Kitana has seen, would you assume that your dad is behind it in her position? Shao Khan clearly was not a terrible father because the writers had to turn his brain off for Kitana to realise he is evil
I like how the “He Must Win” comes full circle in Mk11 Aftermath, where Liu Kang lets Shang Tsung wield the crown against Kronika, then kills Shang Tsung.
And Liu Kang tells this to Fujin and not Raiden. Perhaps, after learning what would be happening to himself if Kronika didn't intervene, Liu Kang learned that cryptical visions are best kept a secret from Raiden.
Raiden throwing caution to the wind and going all out on Shao Kahn here would have been so satisfying. Dude’s pretty scary when he’s not holding back even Liu Kang can’t beat him.
@@bigballzmcdrawz2921nah not the villain. I loved how he was the tyrannical protector, finally not showing mercy anymore after being taken advantage of for so long.
I agree wholeheartedly with your take on Kung Lao's death. It shows that for how powerful and intimidating Shao Kahn is, he's also a petty bitch when he doesn't get his way. His lineup got defeated by some Shaolin nobody and his response is "Nuh-uh, you didn't win! You didn't win!"
Plus, Shao Kahn was always a piece of shit anyways. Killing Kung Lao like this while being incredibly sudden is no exception, and matches perfectly with what Shao Kahn would do. This is the same guy that ended up using a loophole in the rules of Mortal Kombat to invade Earthrealm and tried to merge it together with Outworld once almost all his enemies were gone. He literally even confessed to Kung Lao when he fights him in MK11 Aftermath that he was gonna kill him before the time squabble happened.
I like the idea of it happening because it’s exactly what Shao Kahn would do, but the execution could’ve been done a lot better because him sneaking up behind Kung Lao because somehow nobody was able to see a 7 foot, three hundred pound man sneaking behind a guy much smaller and skinnier than him was just BS writing and it’s just sad for a series as big as Mortal Kombat to have such dipshit storytelling. Why not just utilize his powerful magic he implied to have knowing like soul or blood magic? Why not just rig the tournament since the start and make the Outworlders win? Why not have Shang Tsung or any other Outworlders kill him sneakily with magic or with something else that isn’t BS logic? Hell why not have Mileena teleport on his back and bite his head off? That would make his death seem a lot more impactful because it would’ve been something that was completely unavoidable instead of just “because the plot needs it” and trying to justify the death he could’ve easily avoided had someone said something about Shao Kahn being right behind him unless Shao Kahn can now turn invisible or teleport for some unexplainable reason and it would finally give Mileena a W in this timeline despite it not being a true fight but that’s what bad guys do: they play dirty and unfairly and she’s supposed to be Shao Kahn’s heir and assassin.
@@dslai2938they didn't have to not see him If you saw shao khan rising out of his throne and walking up toward them would you expect him to gloat and talk shit like "this means nothing the tournament is not over" or walk a bit closer and snap kung lao's neck
Thing that might have made the Sindel massacre more palatable would be if it swapped player control to her and you fought the heroes. Wouldn't solve the narrative issues all those deaths creates, but it would make Sindel's win feel earned.

Smoke won alone against Kitana Few chapters later Kitana defeated Smoke while Johnny Cage is with him. Damn how did she become so strong in such a short time?
None of it makes sense because of the chapter based story mode, a character not losing at all in their own chapter really introduces plot holes in the story

Shao Khan beating Onaga, running back to thr Pyramid, killing everyone else and killing Blaze is really odd but thats not what bothers me the most. What boggles my mind is that Shang Tsung gives Shao Khan a very basic kick and that gives Shao Khan hella stun damage enough to be caught by Onaga. Its the most basic kick you can ever see and one of the top OG MK villans gets stun locked from it for like 4 seconds
I guess Shang was the most skilled fighter of Armageddon in the old timeline. He even learned his lesson when going against Quan Chi again by shape-shifting into Ermac to defeat him. Also, how does Liu Kang's chainhooks kill Shang from catching him in the shoulders? Who killed Liu Kang? Why was Raiden fighting Shao Khan when they had already struck a deal? Did Onaga die? Did Shao Kahn kill Taven? How did the MK9 writers leave so many plotholes?
@@vijzon3223 For 1, we don't know if it was Liu Kang's body who absorbed his souls somehow, aging Shang Tsung to death or the transformation of Blaze that evaporated the souls within Shang Tsung which aged him to death. It's unclear how he died in the end. Shang Tsung killed Liu Kang at the intro of MK5/ MK Deadly Alliance with Quan Chi's help after he escaped the Netherealm. With Quan Chi who landed a backstab hit at Liu Kang, stunning him, Shang Tsung was able to snap his neck, killing the champion. Raiden and Shao Kahn fought each other probably because Raiden got his head snapped back to normal Raiden after Taven beaten his ass and made him think rationally. Yes, Onaga was killed by Shao Kahn and his death can only be blamed by only Onaga himself because he sent the battle between he and Shao Kahn to where Shao Kahn wanted him to be which Goro was waiting there to assist Shao Kahn and kill Onaga, which in the end they succeed. This was shown in MK Deception but we don't know if it's canon or not, for now it stays as the logical answer to how Shao Kahn killed Onaga and Goro's absence(not entirely since he was guarding a place and got his ass whooped by Taven.) Now did Shao Kahn killed Taven? There are 2 outcomes to this. Either Shao Kahn killed Blaze and killed Taven or Taven DID killed Blaze but the power up upon killing Blaze powered up Shao Kahn and the kombatants caused most of them to kill each other with most of them to die by Shao Kahn's hammer as Taven became a full god, trying to find a solution to weaken the remaining surviving kombatants until Raiden resetted the timeline.
I get that the story isn't very good but the overall product is still one of the best in the genre. Challenge tower & tag team alone keep this game above other recent fighters, specifically MK11 & especially Tekken 7.
I still very much prefer the look of this game before they started going more photo-realistic and lost some of that cartoony flare in favor of too much distracting detail on everything.
@@KorruptedFlame yes with it's lack of content & even worse story. Pile of shit doesn't even have a survival mode & doesn't feature anything else to make up for it.

6:50 They were SOOOO close to doing so. During a scene where they’re filming Ninja Mime, the guy he’s fighting is named Tommy. And I was so sad when they didn’t do anything or say his last name was Scissorfists.
funny how despite all the plot holes and dumb villain moments this story got, it still manages to be better than the story from the following games, at least MK9 didn't retcon Sindel.
I always thought the power scaling in these games was strange. Like somehow nightwolf gets his ass beat by scorpion but then later owns Sindel, and smoke can go against Shang Tsung and reptile but fails against Jade. Maybe it was the developers way of implementing character development but it felt weird.
I think the different kombatants have their strengths and weaknesses. Since scorpion uses mostly physical attacks together with fire magic and fights in a certain martial style, it might be harder for nightwolf to counter. When they fight with Sindel you can see it right away, that everybody else is affected by Sindels scream besides nightwolf - probably his connection to the great spirit.
Also, the final battle in this game FEELS like the final battle. Especially with the Outworld buildings appearing in the background of the rooftop. The stages tell a story in themselves. I really wish they would have brought that back.

Look at it from a developer's perspective. You have a finite amount of resources for animation, voice acting, choreography, writing, keeping it all within a 5-6 hour story and having to manage nearly 30 characters within that time frame. So why should you, as the Developer, allocate some of these finite resources to giving the villain characters a few extra wins when it does nothing to progress the story and takes away time you could be using to develop the actual overarching plot? I know it sucks that the villains seem less threatening as a results. But when you have to mix in so many villains and heroes into one story while trying to further along the main plot, you have to understand it's not as simple as "we made the bad guys jobbers because lol"

Neat fact I never realized until later: Kabal's voice actor, David Lodge, is the same actor who plays Jeralt in Fire Emblem. Which is kind of cool because you can definitely hear Jeralt in some of Kabal's lines before he gets burned and has the voice-effect.
The main issue with Netherrealm games is how the characters have their power tier changed every chapter. The worst contender is actually Bi-Han. Bro has beaten all 4 Elder Gods, beat Scorpion twice, tricked Shinnok and in this game he loses to Sonya meaning she's stronger than all 4 Elder Gods and Scorpion. Which in turn means that Sonya is stronger than Kitana, who in MK11 blinds Shao Kahn so she's stronger than Shao Kahn and this goes on and on.
And another issue with them is that they reintroduce older characters or literally come up with the most creative characters conceptually, Kotal being the poster child for that, but then they just don’t know what to do with them other than turning them into jobbers throughout the whole story in the games and it’s just annoying at this point for all the fans of those characters, myself included. Not to mention they also just constantly forget what the characters can and can’t do like Sonya fighting both Kanos and somehow ambushing him when there were two of them and he literally has a eye that can *shoot lasers* and see through walls, D’Vorah executing Mileena the way she did was frankly stupid since Mileena could’ve literally bitten D’Vorah’s face off and take her down with her and I swear that’s the *only* reason they gave her lips in that game, and Kotal for some reason not healing himself with his *solar* powers which I’m pretty sure the games said he could use and not using his blood magic he could use in both this game, MKX, and the comics in the *Sea of Blood* in Mk Aftermath and the list just goes on and on and on.
Those 4 beings Bi-Han defeated in Mythologies were not the Elder Gods but just Gods who are a tier lower and weaker than they are, Fujin was one of them and he aint an Elder God...but i still see what you mean tho.
@@MetallicMadness85 that is true, however my point still stands. Bi Han was very high on the tier list due to the fact that he either beat or outsmarted his opponents. Proceeds to lose to fucking Sonya Blade.
It's to create some kind of fairness and make it a lil bit more realistic because losing to someone doesn't necessarily mean you're weaker than them, it can happen. Still, I agree that having stuff like mf Cassie Cage defeating Corrupted Shinnok in MKX and Liu Kang in MK11 but barely beating Kano is ridiculous
MK 9 was also my introduction to the franchise. At first I just thought it was a weird game with women in weird costumes that my brother and sister played on my dads x box. The weird things about the story had me hooked. I HAD to learn about this series. And now I’m a total MK geek. The game isn’t perfect (mostly bc of the story) but it really is one of the best MK games.
20:15 I had a strange bug in my game, where it used Jax's "Damn you're ugly." Instead of Raiden saying his line. I laughed so hard, when I first heard this, because I thought Jax just straight up insulted Raiden 😂
41:54 I'm suprised this wasn't brought up but what Raiden saw there was Johnny about to be killed at the start of MK3. That's why Motaro is dead later.
When you pointed out the MK3 part of the game shows why the character chapter system sucks. Since its not their chapter they dont matter so you cant touch on them much. Being just normal chapters would give them way more leg room but NRS never seems to learn this and I believe M1K will have that crap system too. The sindel killing everyone moment was stupid as well. At first I thought they were just knocked out since this is MK and the characters do survive a lot of damage but nope they were dead which made me go "WHAT THAT KILLED THEM!". @@stefanradebach2889 if you know the lore, and you're asking why it's now one thousand years instead of ten thousand years like in the original, it's because Aftermath made it seem like Shao Kahn conquering Edenia, taking Sindel and Kitana as his wife and daughter and Sindel's death all happened a thousand years before the start of the series rather than ten thousand years, like in the original timeline/lore
If you're asking instead how can it be that it's one thousand years, canonically all other realm denizens live for thousands of years.

Johnny’s “nice hat” to Raiden sounded so genuine. That’s just wholesome.

"I will strip the flesh from your bones!"
MF was about to violate the MK rules AND Shao Kahn.
Raiden throwing caution to the wind and going all out on Shao Kahn here would have been so satisfying. Dude’s pretty scary when he’s not holding back even Liu Kang can’t beat him.
Or it should’ve been a tag team thing where you play as both Raiden and Liu Kang, using the tag mechanic in game to help take out Shao Khan.
@@pearsemolloy9656Dark Raiden shoud've been the main villain of MK11.
King Lao was like a son to Raiden 😢
Probably also have it happen with the attack to make it feel better with it being one by one.

It gets absurd when you realised Shang Tsung 1 shotted Shujinko, sending him flying like a cannon ball with 1 normal punch lol.
@@vijzon3223 99% of those plotholes are sealed. Il tell later.

15:35 THATS WHY RAIDEN IS THE GOAT,THE GOAT.
Bro Raiden was a savage thats why Raiden is my favorite character
“Fighting shah Kahn took over 12 overs?” Well for me it did
The main issue with Netherrealm games is how the characters have their power tier changed every chapter.

I loved every time you said "as a wee little gigimon" as the drawing is cute and its just funny. Also loved the4thsnake breaking through your door. Enjoy your vacation.
57:31 Well Scorpion hosted a "Cooking with Scorpion" show
I like how no one talks about the pure disrespect sindel gave smoke or Sonya.
Here's a fun fact. If you listen closely to Cyrax unit number, it's the same number used by Catwoman in injustice 2 to deactivate brother eye's security protocols when brother eye detected Cyborg. I thought this was interesting. That is all
Nice! XD
@@SonicHaXDnd now after many years you have finally have them all... The clues I mean. (Gravity falls meme) also I do like the music too.
44:27 is the CLOSEST MATCH I HAVE EVER SEEN!!
Doing "Scary Monsters" as Reptile aged perfectly tbh
Cause of his true form in MK1?
@@dylansharp8471 yeah
Great vid, must've been so much work and editing. 5:35 - 5:40 From Ass Monk to Yay to No...that was hilarious! 😂👍
Not sure if this is a Mandela effect but I remember Kratos being frozen in this shot specifically 24:03 anyone else?
39:13 SonicHaXD, I think that Quan Chi set up a barrier or staged it too, so that Shao Kahn finally fell for it.
34:08 Never expected to hear the Nikke menu ost but here we are.
21:01 reptile outta pocket 😂😂
Fun fact: it's a reverse reference, a gag coming full circle from the Battle of the Realms video where Reptile bemoans his lost status of personal bodyguard of Shang Tsung
40:10 Also. I forgot this is one of the best part and the best easter eggs of all time
Tarkatan learned how to use guns was the best thing to ever exist even in small second
As someone who just recently got MK9 via a friend, these double battles in the story mode are KILLING me.
