    Can we PLEASE stop with the screaming, sensationalistic thumbnails (which are way too often about sex or Ozempic) that really denigrate the guest, their shared thoughts, the team and Steven who have clearly done a lot of legwork and research on these guests! @kaykapumpa9296 Yes, same thing happened to me and mote than once. I actually have paid attention each time now to see if whatever is in quotation marks on the thumbnail is actually even SAID by the guest and quite often it's not!! They shouldn't be in quotes then!! The one I was most disgusted by was "MASTURBATION IS DAMAGING YOUR SEX LIFE" and then you listen to a thoughtful doctor who has written a book and there's nothing about masturbating harming you. If I was the guest, I'd be pissed off. It also has stopped me from sharing certain podcasts because I'd be embarrassed when they saw the thumbnail!

      Maybe, but I just find it hard to be critical of her because of all she candidly opened up about. As a late bloomer, when I see attractive smug types who've never known any different ~ the types who are vanity-obsessed & look down their noses at others ~ rarely do they value much outside of image ~ it's almost all they've ever known ~ when those types moan about life it is nauseating 🤮
      There was a spoilt rich brat on diary of a CEO a while back ~ the tinder chief ~ Rebel is the opposite of that 🙏🏼

    • @kr8882
      @kr8882 12 днів тому +9

      @@Martin-rh7mf there’s a lot of assumptions and judgement in your comment about attractive people being smug. You buy into Rebels story because you are deeming her not attractive. Insecurity has nothing to do with looks or assumptions that your life has been easy because you are attractive. You should perhaps treat people as you find them. Being attractive isn’t a win win as people like you have just proven.

    • @Martin-rh7mf
      @Martin-rh7mf 12 днів тому +8

      @kr8882 Thank you for your time. Attractive smug types are attractive smug types ~ that doesn't refer to all ~ just those who are smug with it.
      I haven't bought into anything ~ not paid a penny ~ simply, when a person opens up about something that's socially excruciating for them, this is something I value ~ I struggle to empathise with those who've been accustomed to privileges ~ spoilt brats perhaps ~ am sorry if that triggers you ~ Rebel's attractiveness is something you've decided to hone in on, which is insightful ~ Funnily enough, I had described her as beautiful ~ an adjective I could never bring myself to describe many celebs who are vanity-obsessed with no real depth whatsoever ~ apologies for the controversy I seem to have caused you 🙏🏼

      Her mum made her initially and I did exactly that, I was cripplingly shy at 15 after experiencing a decade of abuse, I peformed in every school play, school musical, school concert, joined the debating team deliberately because I wanted to put myself out of my comfort zone and become more confident and it DID work slowly over time, but no one encouraged me to do those things. I was DEFINITELY a troubled teen, attempted suicide aged 10 and was on anti-depressants by 14 and was in foster care at the time. I don't like make broad sweeping generalisations and using stereotypes about young people or any one for that matter. Not all teenagers that party are troubled. The people that partied at my school were popular and academic and middle class/privileged, the wealthiest kids at school and all went to uni. Having a good time isn't as symptom of distress

    Its not just celebrities that get backlashed for losing weight. From my personal experinces of a lifetime if being the only overweight person in my family. My father got furious when he found out I joined a gym. A boyfriend i was going to marry statrted leaving deserts in my car and my fridge, realizung he was a control freak i left. Then when i experimented with being gluten free for my arthritis and weight, I made the mistake of telling my family. My sister did xmas that year, i brought a variety of appetizers and deserts, and for the dinner she breaded the 3 different vegetables and breaded pork chops, insted of mashed potatoes did mac-n-cheese with added bread crumbs. She never cooked like this before or since. Then theres the women at work who noticed. I weighted less.(hate the word "loss" you dont lose fat, thats too simple and easy.
    truth is you work hard to get it off). The women bringing in baked goods or large boxes if candy and putting on a portion on my desk. You do not give an alcoholic a glass of booze, you dont put drugs in the face of a drug addict. U learned to keep my mouth shut and expect No assistance from anyone other than my Doctors and people in my weight loss groups.

      Congratulations on the weight loss! But it’s tough. I come from the opposite end and I got relentlessly bullied at the job I was working by other women because I was lifting weights and eating to gain weight. They all couldn’t imagine that that’s tough as well. Glad I got fired from that place looking back. It can be very isolating. I’m used to working out by myself and not having any support from family. My best friend always rooted for me but lived far away from me when I was going through that. I do weigh more now and I’m really proud of myself! But losing or gaining, the work that goes into it is incredible and most people don’t even understand that.

You sound very observant and you probably know that their need to keep you exactly the way you are says a lot about their insecurities. Many people can't handle others 'improving' themselves. It destabilises their world and where you fit in it. Keep going. This life is yours, not theirs. Go well. :)

      I really dislike this concept about trauma, particularly because there ARE sick people (and groups of people) who see things this way and therefore ritualistically traumatize people until their mind breaks. You can CHOOSE (with help) to break the cycle, but I look forward to a world with ZERO trauma. But to each its own !

    • @annemariegodden
      @annemariegodden 12 днів тому +3

      @@butterflywind999 Trauma, especially childhood trauma within the home, creates adults who are hypervigilant (focused on situation and context and the world outside) and hyper-conscientious (workaholics). I have heard that the CIA particularly look for these sorts of people to work for them. Underdeveloped in some areas (just as Rebel describes her social skills), the brain has adapted to over develop vigilance and conscientiousness to move us towards a functioning (and then thriving) life. Childhood trauma is not a choice, but our adaption to it can make us remarkable. Rebel is remarkable. The biggest challenge is to spot when we can relax and smell the roses, and then do it.

    In both countries we “have” friends. It’s all about the wording!
    In The Netherlands and the german spoken countries we just don’t know how to “make” friends (active approach)! We count ourself lucky in case we “have” some friends, but there is no awareness about how to “get” them. Mind-blowing! Thank you sooo much for open up.

    My (Australian) Dad took to drink to deal with his trauma. His Dad died young and tragically. We are also directly related to a few convicts, so this was really interesting to listen to as well. My Dad, unfortunately died tragically and young too. My Mum (American) had already found the strength to leave him and take two young kids back to America. The trauma still lives in me though. Trauma from watching him drink himself to death, trauma from having a Dad (who I worshiped) that wasnt emotionally available (which was the norm in Australia at least at that time), and honestly, the trauma from being taken from my birth place to be raised away from everything I knew. I feel like I was robbed of being raised as a true Aussie, which made me feel so bitter for a very long time. I had issues with food too, but the opposite of Rebel. This was an incredible interview! Thank you.

    An outstanding , real, honest, articulate, composed, logical, interesting, intelligent, driven, hard working, sensible, funny, inspiring, beautiful person inside and out. Rebel lived and worked out in my local community of Balmain Sydney. What an inspiration. Loved this interview. Thank you rebel and Steven.

    Great interview. Was wonderful to see just how intelligent you are Rebel. I do believe the best comedy comes from those with a great mind.
    Can't wait to see you win an Oscar or it's equivalent.
    As a fellow Aussie woman. That family dynamic was all too common, great to see you healing that generational trauma for your little miracle girl. Congrats xx

    I’ve never in my life related to someone so much. I’ve heard about people doing that, but I’ve never actually experienced it. Pretty amazing feeling. Thank you for bringing Rebel Wilson on, she was the unexpected guest I didn’t know I needed.

    Rebel! Gees I loved learning about you. I’ve always liked you and a few years ago a viewer from the US commented on my channel that her and her husband like to watch me because I remind them of Rebel Wilson and I felt like that was such a cool compliment. It kind of validated my personality a bit 🤍. And it made me think “ok, it’s ok to be myself”. Rather than be like others in my niche.
    Your Dad listening to those tapes might not have helped him, but him doing that and having those tapes sounds like it changed you. It’s kind of cool if he couldn’t give you much else that was a nice gift.
    In I’ll keep listening now …

    This interview is the first interview I have felt seen in any sort of capacity. As someone who has suffered from childhood abuse/neglect, I've learned that hard way that my weight gain was caused by not wanting to be harmed or touched by romantic partners but also losing the emotional weight is alot harder than the physical weight

      Have you sought therapy? I spent years putting it off and finally in my 30s have faced it but also like Rebel realised I do want a family. I think the sooner you do it the sooner you can really know if its definitely something you don't want. Less regret in old age.

      Look up Irene Lyon. She offers a very helpful insight with regards to early trauma etc.
      Mainly the reason why it's so difficult for many people to have relationships as adults.
      Human relationships are challenging but can be so rewarding, not just romantic relationships but also friendships.
      Don't give up, we were not made to be alone.

      Her dad sounds Ike a very disordered man. You have o numb down dealing with their rage. Many intellectualize instead of emote. It’s like an extreme form gray rock but really needs to be dealt with in therapy and inner work.
      Her childhood was very traumatic. I’m glad she is thriving now.
